IN TRO DUC TION:
Part of the early de vel op ment of the M20M air craft con sisted of a change to the fo cal point a n gle
on the en gine mount ing adapt ers and the tu bu lar en gine mount. This is a slight an gle change
that re quired new mount ing adapter blocks from Lycoming, a new Moo ney de signed en gine
mount and new rub ber iso la tors for the en gine mount points.
It is pos si ble for the en gine with the orig i nal fo cal an gle and an en gine mount with the ne w fo cal
an gle (31o) (or vice-versa) to be cou pled to gether. How ever, a mis-match should be ob vi ous to
main te nance per son nel; the re sul tant en gine in stal la tion will not be po si tioned cor rectly in re la -
tion to the cowl ing.
This Ser vice In struc tion is to ad vise field per son nel of this pos si bil ity in case of an en gine or en -
gine mount change.
IN STRUC TIONS:
1. If the en gine on any of the above S/N air craft is to be changed for any rea son, the air frame and
en gine log book MUST BE RE FERRED TO to de ter mine if the air craft be ing ser viced has had the
en gine mount changed from the orig i nal con fig u ra tion to the the new 31o fo cal point con fig u ra -
tion.
2. The orig i nal Moo ney en gine mount con fig u ra tion part num ber is 590047-501. The new 31o
Moo ney en gine mount con fig u ra tion part num ber is 590048-501. The Lycoming adapter blocks
on the en gine as well as the Lord Mfg. iso la tion mounts will also have been changed for the
590048-501 Moo ney en gine mount in stal la tion.
This con fig u ra tion has been in stalled on pro duc tion air craft, S/N 27-0001, 27-0025 and 27-0070
and ON. There may have been other air craft within this S/N range retro fit ted by field per son nel
also. This ret ro fit ac tion is dif fi cult to keep track of by fac tory per son nel. That is the rea son for the
check of the air craft and en gine log books.
3. There are two con di tions that re quire spe cial han dling if the air craft is in orig i nal co n fig u ra tion:
—When the en gine is to be re placed with a new or fac tory re-manufactured en gine the
Lycoming adapter blocks will need to be re moved from the ex ist ing en gine and placed on the re -
place ment en gine.
—When the en gine mount is to be re placed for any rea son, the orig i nal en gine con fig u ra tion
Lycoming adapter blocks will re quire re place ment with Lycoming 31o fo cal blocks, P/N
12A21320 and the new Lord Mfg. rub ber iso la tors, P/N J9613-82 (4 re quired). The old en gine
mount con fig u ra tion, P/N 590047-501, is no lon ger avail able.
