thanrearmsafety.Weurgeyoutolearnandpracticethefollowingguidelinesandto

THE 3 CARDINAL FIREARMS SAFETY RULES

1. Alwayshandlearearmasifitisloaded

Evenifyoudeterminethatarearmisunloaded,always,always,alwayshandleit

likeitISloaded.Whenyouhandlearearm,therstthingyoushoulddo(withthe

rearmpointedinasafedirection),isopentheactiontoidentifywhethertherearm

isloaded.Ifyoudonotknowhowtoopentheaction,donothandletherearm.And

remember,removingamagazinealonedoesnotmakearearmunloaded,asthere

maybearoundinthechamber.

2. Alwayskeepyourngeroutofthetriggerguardandoffthetriggeruntilyouare

readytoshootyourtarget

Donotplaceyourngerinsidethetriggerguarduntilyouhaveplacedarearm’s

sightsonyourtargetandhavedecidedtore.Thebestplacetorestyourngerinthe

meantimeisabovethetriggerguardalongtheframe.Bywaitinguntilyouareaimed

atyourtarget,ifthetriggerweretobepressed,youwillguaranteethatashotwill

travelsafelyinthedirectionofyourintendedtarget.

3. Alwayskeeparearmpointedinasafedirection,beforeandbeyondyourtarget

Itisimportanttoidentifyyouractualtarget,butitisjustasimportanttoknowwhatlies

pastandbeforeyourtarget.Asafedirectionisanydirectionwhereanunintentional

dischargeormisswillnotcauseinjuryordamage.Indeterminingasafedirection,

rememberthataroundcanricochetoffanobjectlikeaoor,waterorwall,orgo

throughwalls,oors,ceilings,andwindows.Whetherinahouseoroutdoors,the

safestdirectionisthemuzzleangleddowntowardtheoor.Andneverpointator

crossthemuzzleofarearm(loadedorunloaded)atanypartofanyperson’sbody—

the laser rule!

Youshouldalwaysstorerearmsandammunitionoutofthesightandreachof

childrenandanyoneelsewhoisnotanintendeduserornotphysicallyormentally

capableofhandlingandusingthemproperlyandsafely.Storerearmsinasafe

storageplace–ideally,oneyoucanlock.

CAREFULLY READ THE ENTIRE INSTRUCTION MANUAL THAT COMES WITH YOUR

FIREARM

Youshouldonlyusearearmifyoufullyunderstandhowtosafelyoperateit.All

rearmscomewithaninstructionmanualcreatedbythemanufacturer.Iftherearm

doesnotcomewithaninstructionmanual,contactthemanufacturerdirectlyand

requestone.

ALWAYS DETERMINE THAT THE FIREARM IS SAFE TO OPERATE

Beforeshooting,makesuretherearmisingoodworkingorder,thatthebarrel

isclear,andthattherearmissafetooperate.Thisisespeciallyimportantwhen

handlingarearmthathasbeenstoredorunusedforalongperiodoftime.

ALWAYS USE CORRECT AMMUNITION

Neveruseimproperorincorrectammunition.Onlyuseammunitionthatis

recommendedbytherearmmanufacturerthecaliberofyourrearm.Mostrearms

havethecaliberengravedorstampedonthebarrel.Yourammunitionshouldhavethe

exactsamecaliber.Ifyouusetheincorrectammunition,itcandestroyarearmand

causeseriousinjury.Additionally,itvoidsyourwarranty.

WHENCLEANINGAFIREARM,MAKESUREITISNOTLOADED

Oneofthemostcommonstatementsfollowinganaccidentaldischargeis:“Iwas

cleaningtherearmanditwentoff!”Whenyoucleanarearm,makesureitisnot

loaded.Youshouldkeeptheammunitioninanotherroomuntilyouhavenished

cleaningtherearmandarereadytoreload.

NEVER USE FIREARMS WHILE USING DRUGS OR ALCOHOL

Whenyouhandlerearms,yourjudgmentmustNOTbeimpaired.YoushouldNEVER

handlerearmswhileundertheinuenceofalcohol,illegaldrugsorwhileusinglegal

prescriptionmedicationthatcanmakeyoutiredoraffectyoursenses,reexes,or

judgment.

USE EYE AND EAR PROTECTION

Alwayswearpropereyeandearprotectionwhileshootingrearms;earprotectionwill

helppreventhearinglossfromtheextremedecibellevelofgunre,andeyeprotection

GENERAL SPECS OF THE PISTOL

TherearedifferencesamongtheGİRSANpistols,butthisseriesalluseasimilar

operatingsystem.

LockingSystem:MostGİRSANpistolsaresemi-automaticrearmsoperatingonthe

shortrecoilprinciple.Thisactionisprovidedbytheslidemovingtotherearandthe

barrelmovingdownonceunlocked.Theothersystemutilizedistherecoiloperated

systemwherethebarrelisxedandtheslidemovesrearwardoncethebarrel

pressuredrops.

LoadedChamberIndicator:Whenaroundischambered,theextractorhead

protrudesfurtherfromtheslidebreechandexposesaredwarningtab.Inthedark,

thisprotrusioncanalsobefeltbytouch.Thismakesitunnecessarytopullbackthe

slidetoverifyifthechamberisloaded.

6. OPERATING SYSTEM

GİRSAN1911pistolsaresemi-automatic,single-actionpistolsutilizingarecoil

operation.Uponring,thepressuredevelopedbycombustiongasinthechamberrecoils

theslideandbarrelassemblytogether.Afterashortdistance,alinkallowsthebarrelto

pivot,releasingtheslide,lettingitrecoilwhilethebarrelstopsagainsttheframe.During

thisrearwardmovement,theslideextractsandejectstheredcartridgecase,cocksthe

hammerandcompressestherecoilspring.Undertheforceoftherecoilspring,theslide

thenmovesforward,feedingthenextcartridgefromthemagazineintothechamber

andcausingthebarrel-slidetolock.Theslidestaysopenafterthelastcartridgeinthe

magazinehasbeenredandejected.

WARNING

Donotapplyforcetothepistolwithanyobjectwhilehandling,cocking,disassemblingor

cleaningthepistol.

7. HOW TO USE THE PISTOL

WARNING

Keepyourngeroutsidethetriggerguardandoffthetriggeruntilyouintendtore.

BEFORE SHOOTING

• Withthesafetyon,thepistol

cannotre.Setthesafetylever

“on”byslidingtheleverup.

• Priortouse,besurethatthe

chamberisemptyandthebarrel

isfreefromanyobstructions

(Picture1).

• Thispistolhasagripsafetysystem.Therefore,thepistol

cannotreunlessthesafetyisdeactivatedbytheuser

holdingthegrip(Picture2).Thissystemprovidesadditional

safetytothepistol.

FUNCTION CHECKS

• Besurethatthepistolisunloadedandthemagazineisemptybeforestartingany

functionchecks(Pictures1,3).

SLIDE AND BODY FRAME CHECKS

button.Pulltheslideallthewayto

therear(Picture5).

• Whiledrawingtheslideback,make

suretheslidemoveseasilyonthe

bodyframeandcocksthehammer.

Withthehammercockedafteryouretracttheslide,pull

thetriggerandchecktoensurethehammerfallsproperly

(Picture6).

• Afterinsertinganemptymagazine,repeatthesameaction.

Theslidewillstaylockedandopenintherearposition

TRIGGER AND SAFETY LEVER CONTROLS

• Aftercockingthehammer,holdthepistolrmly,pullthe

triggertocheckifthehammerfallsmakinganaudible

click(Picture8).

• Thesafetyleverpreventsthehammerfromfallingwith

thesafetyon.Pullthetriggerandthehammershouldnot

fall.

• Thegripsafetyalsopreventsthepistolfromring.With

thehammercockedandthesafetyoff,holdthepistol

lightlysoasnottosqueezethebackstrapgripsafety,

andthepullthetrigger.Thehammershouldnotfall.

• Thehalf-cocksafetyisdesignedsothatwhilemanually

cockingthehammer,ifitslipsandfallsforward,itcannot

striketheringpinunlessthetriggerisdepressed.Itisan

additionalsafety.Totestthissafety,withthegununloaded

andwiththengeroutofthetriggerguard,pullthehammer

backandreleaseitpriortobeingfullyengaged.The

hammershouldfalltothehalf-cockedpositionandnot

striketheringpin.

PREPARING TO SHOOT

• Alwayspointthepistolinasafedirection.

• Makesurethatthepistolisinsafemode(Picture9).

• Makesurethereisnoobstructioninthebarrel.

• Checkifthepistolisoperatingproperly.

• Ensurethemagazineisttingcorrectly.

LOADING THE MAGAZINE

• Holdthemagazineinanuprightposition.

• Pushthecartridgedownwardsandtotherearofthemagazine.

• Fullyloadthemagazine.

WARNING

Youcancheckthenumberofcartridgesinthemagazinefromthevisibleholeson

theslideofthemagazine.Loadingmorethanmagazinecapacitycandamageyour

magazine.

LOADING THE PISTOL

• Pointthepistolinasafedirection.

• Puttheloadedmagazineintothepistolandensurethemagazinereleasecatches.

• Pulltheslidebacktotheendandreleaseitfreely.

• Nowthepistolisloadedandreadytore.

• Re-engagesafetyifnotreadytore.

WARNING

Pistolisloadedandreadytobered.Keepyourngeroutofthetriggerguardandoff

thetriggeruntilyouintendtore.

TARGETING

Thesightalignmentiscreatedbyarrangingthefrontandrearsightsonthesameline.

Ensurethereisequalspacingoneithersideofthefrontsightwhenviewedthrough

therearsightandthatthetwosightsarelevel.

WARNING

Aftertherstshot,thepistolisautomaticallyloadedandthehammeriscocked,the

pistolisreadytoberedagain.Ifyoudonotintendtoreagain,keepyourngeroff

thetriggerandsetthesafety/decockingleveronsafe.

SHOOTING

• Pointthepistolatthetarget,rotatethesafetyleverdown

(Picture10).

• Whenyouarereadytore,whileholdingthegripto

deactivatethegripsafety,pullthetriggerandre.

• Afterthelastroundisred,theslideremainsopenand

lockedtotherear.Tocontinuering,removetheempty

magazineandinsertaloadedmagazine.

• Presstheslidereleaselevertoreleasetheslideandloadthechamber.

UNLOADING THE PISTOL

• Thepistolcanstillbeloadedevenwhenthemagazineisremoved.

• Pointthebarrelofthepistolinasafedirection.

• Pressthemagazinereleasebuttontotakethemagazineout.

• Pulltheslidebacktoremovethecartridgefromthechamber.

• Releasetheslidebacktothefront,afterensuringthatthechamberisempty

(visuallyandphysicallyensurethereisnotacartridgeinthechamber).

UNLOADING THE MAGAZINE

• Pushthecartridgeforwarduntilreleasingfromthemagazine.

• Continuethisuntilextractingallthecartridgesfromthemagazine.

WARNING

Useonlyoriginalfactoryammunitionandmakesurethatthecaliberoftheammunition

andthepistolisthesame.Useofreloadedammunitionvoidswarranty.

8. MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

• Makesurethatthepistolisunloadedbeforestartingmaintenance.

• Ifthepistolisnotunloadedfollowunloadinginstructions(seeUnloading the Pistol,

onthepreviouspage).

• Maintenanceofthepistolshouldbedoneaftereveryshooting.Themaintenance

andcleaningkitprovidedwiththepistolincludestwocleaningbrushes,oneramrod,

andoil.

DISASSEMBLY OF THE PISTOL

Makesurethatthepistolisunloaded

beforedisassembly.

• Takethemagazineoutbypressing

themagazinereleasebutton(see

Picture 4,page13).

• Holdthepistolwithstronghand.

• Depress the recoil spring plug

enoughtoallowthebarrelbushing

torotate.

• Whiledepressingtherecoilspring

plug, at the same time turn the

barrelbushingclockwise,enough

toallowtherecoilspringtocleartheshoulderonthebarrelbushing.

• Carefullyreleasethepressureontherecoilplugallowingtherecoilspringplugand

recoilspringtocomeoutoftherearm(Pictures11and12).

• Rotatethebarrelbushingcounterclockwiseandremove(Picture13).

• Pulltheslidebackuntilthesmallnotch(secondnotchfromthetopoftheslide)is

evenwiththedisassemblylatchandholdthepistolinthisposition(Picture14).

pressingthetopofthedisassembly

• Separatethedisassemblylever

CLEANING THE PISTOL

Cleaningandoilingthebarrel:

• Sprayalittlegunoilonthebrush.

• Insertthebrushintothebarrelfrom

breachorchamberedend

(Picture22).

• Brushtheinsideofthebarrelby

pushingforwardandbackwards.

• Wipetheinsideofthebarrelwitha

cleananddrypatchuntilthepatch

comesoutclean(Picture23).

• Cleanthebarrellockingblockwith

thebrushsprayedwithprotective

oil.Ifnecessary,youcanapplyoil

lightlytotheoutsideofthebarrelbypassingacleancotton

patchsoakedinprotectiveoilthroughit(Picture24).

Cleaningtheslideandoiling:

• Cleantheslidewiththeoiledbrush(Picture25).

• Lightlyoiltheslide.

• Agoodmethodistoallowadropofoiltoowdownthe
