OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS ZAS 900
Safety Instructions
1. READ these instructions.
2. KEEP these instructions.
3. HEED all warnings.
4. FOLLOW all instructions.
5. Never expose the device to water or excessive humidity.
6. For cleaning use a dry cloth.
7. Do not cover any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
8. Do not install or use this unit near sources of high heat, such as radiators, heat registers, flood
lamps, spotlights, stoves, or other appliances.
9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarised or ground plug: A polarised plug has two blades
with one wider than the other. The wide blade is provided for your safety. When the provided plug
does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
10. Always route cables running to the unit where they will not be pinched or cut by heavy or sharp
objects.
11. Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
12. Disconnect the unit from power during thunderstorms or when not used for a long period of time.
13. Do not open the unit. You could suffer an electric shock. Refer all servicing to qualified service
personnel. Servicing is required when the device has been damaged in any way, such as the power
cable or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the device, the device
has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
14. Never expose the device to rain or excessive humidity. You could suffer an electric shock or cause
a fire.
15. Never put any objects filled with liquids (e.g. vases or drinking vessels) onto the unit. Liquids in units
can cause a short circuit.
16. Always pull out the mains cable from the mains and/or from the equipment by the plug - never
by the cable. The cable could be damaged and cause an electric shock or fire.

Warning!
1. For outdoor use
Never expose the device to rain or humidity. You could suffer an electric shock or a cause a fire.
2. In humid surroundings
Do not expose the device to dripping or splashing and do not place objects filled with liquids
(e.g. vases or vessels) on the device.
3. Service instructions
Caution! Do not open the equipment without authorisation. You could receive an electric shock.
Leave all service work to authorised expert personnel.
This symbol indicates that dangerous voltage constituting a risk of
electric shock is present within this unit.
This symbol indicates that there are important operating and
maintenance instructions in the literature accompanying this unit.
FCC and IC-ID
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules and RSS-123 Issue 2 of Canada. Operation is
subject to the following two conditions:
(1) This device may not cause interference.
(2) This device must accept any interference, including interference that may cause undesired
operation of the device.
12
Features
1. Optimised for 470 – 800 MHz frequency response.
2. Provided for a maximum of four UHF diversity receivers to operate from just a pair of antennas,
greatly simplifying antenna installations and increasing reception distance and efficiency.
3. The splitter is provided with an advanced circuit design optimising reception and operating range
of the connected radio systems. The overall gain from antenna input to each output equals to
factor 1. A loss of signal level, as with passive splitters, does not occur.
4. For the diversity operation the ZAS 900 is provided with two antenna inputs, divided into four
outputs each. The operation is possible with directly connected or remote antennas (AT 70
ground plane antenna or AT 91 directional antenna).
5. In addition to the four antenna outputs, there is a loop-through connector to connect further
splitters in more extensive installations.
6. Both antenna inputs provide supply voltage for active antennas or boosters.
7. Power indicator to display the active connection to the booster.
8. Dimensions (W x H x D): 482 x 44 x 190 mm
9. Weight: approx. 1.5 kg
Supplied accessories
1. 8 x antenna cables, 40 cm long (TNC)
2. 1 pair of 19" rack mount brackets
3. 1 pair of FB 30 mounting brackets
4. 1 x 12V/500mA power adapter
5. 1 x manual
Control, indicators and functions
Front
Power On/Off switch and operating control LED: When power is on, the red LED will illuminate.
Booster power indicator: The LED will illuminate when a remote antenna with an active booster
is connected and powered by the antenna IN connector .
Rack mount bracket: For mounting the splitter into a standard 19" rack.

Rear
Antenna input: Connects directly to an antenna or a booster. The connector provides an 8.3 V
DC power for the booster.
Antenna output: Supplies a looped-through signal so that another splitter can be connected
when required.
Antenna splitter output: Supplies the diversity antenna signal for a maximum of four receivers.
DC input: To connect the supplied 12 V DC power adapter.
Installation (2 applications)
First application
For multichannel systems the splitters can be cascaded. The respective receivers are connected to the
A and B outputs of the first splitter, while the looped-through A and B antenna outputs supply
further splitters.
14
Second application
1. Use the rack mount brackets to install the splitter into a standard rack.
2. Connect the ground plane (AT 70) or directional antennas (AT 91) to the A and B antenna inputs
by using low-attenuation cables. By using the supplied FB 30 rack mount bracket with cable the
antennas can also be mounted on the front.
3. The antenna outputs are connected to the antenna inputs of the receiver by using the supplied
TNC cables. To ensure the diversity operation, each receiver must be supplied with one A and one
B antenna signal!
4. Connect the supplied power adapter to AC power and to the DC socket of the ZAS 900.
5. To operate turn on the power switch.

General information
1. The antenna connectors are provided with a direct voltage of 8.3 V DC. In order to avoid a
short circuit, they should not touch the housing of the rack.
2. Use high-quality 50 Ω coaxial cables. The longer the cable, the higher the attenuation of the RF
signal. For long distances we recommed Aircell 7, Ecoflex 10 or 15 cables to minimise signal loss.
3. To connect remote antennas, use normal 50 Ω coaxial cables. The longer the cable, the higher
the RF signal loss. Therefore, the cable length should not exceed 6 m. The larger the diameter of
cable, the lower the signal loss. If you need cables longer than 6 m you should therefore use
cables with a larger diameter to reduce the loss of signal.
4. Connected antennas must operate in the same frequency range of 480 - 800 MHz as the
antenna splitter.
