RCS340 user manual
- 3 / 4 - 12.10.2010
The RCS340 will normally replace unserviceable, weak or ageing DEC VT340 units
in existing service and can use the original Digital keyboard. This avoids the need to
retrain operators and/or to alter software configurations. The system unit is based on
an industry standard ATX format and has the appearance of a standard modern PC
network station.
The RCS340 is designed to be used with any standard VGA CRT monitor (use with
TFT monitors may be possible but the functionality is not guaranteed).
Monitor and keyboard are not included with the standard RCS340 system unit.
Operation is in almost all respects identical to the original VT340 unit, but due to the
unavailability of the original special DEC RS423 sockets, the additional ports on the
RCS340 have been implemented with industry standard 9 pin D-Sub connectors. A
wiring table is included in this guide for situations where suitable adapters are not
available.
The RCS340 is equipped with an industry standard RS232 25w D-Sub connector for
host communication. Multi-session ports S1, S2 (RS423) and the local printer port
are present as 9 pin D-Sub connectors.
Limited quantities of original Digital VT340 keyboards and DEC RS423/9p D-Sub
adapters can be obtained from RCS EDV Dienstleistungen GmbH.
