Congratulations on the purchase of your new Defy appliance!
Please read this manual carefully before using your appliance for the first time and then store it
within easy reach for future reference. We trust you will enjoy years of trouble free use.
The user manual:
x This manual will provide you with information on how to safely operate and care for your
appliance in order that you gain the maximum benefit from it.
x Pay particular attention to any safety instructions.

Disconnect the power plug
after using the appliance,

Preparation
Before first use read the User`s manual
carefully, special care must be given to
follow directions and cautions to avoid any
damage to property or human injury.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
x To avoid a circuit overload when using
this appliance, do not operate another
high-wattage appliance on the same
electrical circuit.
x A short power supply cord is provided with
this appliance. An extension cord is not
recommended for use with this appliance,
but if one must be used:
The marked electrical rating of the cord must
be at least as great as that of the appliance.
Arrange the extension cord so that it does
not hang where it can be tripped over or
pulled unintentionally.
CAUTION: Do not use this
appliance to cook or defrost
frozen food. All food must be
completely defrosted before
cooking it with this appliance.
CAUTION: Do not use metal
utensils on this appliance, as they
will scratch and damage the
Plates’ non-stick coating.
NOTE: During initial use of this
appliance, a little smoke may be
produced. This is normal and will
subside with further use.

Operating the appliance
1. Before using this appliance for the first
time, clean it as described in the “Care
and Maintenance” section.
2. Press in the end of the Locking Latch
nearest the Handle to unlock the
appliance.
3. Open the unit by pulling the Handle up.
4. Close the Plates and turn the unit on by
plugging it into a standard electrical
outlet. Verify that the Power Indicator
Light illuminates in orange.
WARNING: The Cooking Plates and
metal surfaces of the unit will become
extremely hot when in use. To avoid a
burn hazard, wear heat resistant mitts or
gloves and touch only the black portion of
the Handle.
5. After the unit preheats for approximately
five minutes, the Ready Indicator Light will
illuminate in green, indicating the
appliance is ready for use.
6. Use the Handle to lift the Upper Plate.
Place food on the Lower Plate using
wooden or plastic heat-resistant utensils.
7. Use the Handle to lower and rest the
Upper Plate on top of the food.
8. When the food is cooked as desired, lift
the Handle to open the Plates, then
remove the food using the utensils. If
more cooking will be done at this time,
close the plates to conserve heat.
9. Repeat Steps 7-9 until all cooking is
complete, reapplying cooking oil as
necessary.
10.Turn off the appliance by unplugging the
Power Cord from the electrical outlet.
11.When the unit has completely cooled,
clean and dry it.
12.Lock the unit in its closed position by
pressing in the end of the Locking Latch
farthest from the Handle.

disposed of in a responsible
manner and that any plastic bags
are cut up to prevent children
playing with them and
accidentally suffocating.

x If you do not plan to use the appliance for
a long period of time, please store it
carefully.
x Make sure the appliance is unplugged
and completely dry.
x Store the appliance in a cool, dry place.
x Make sure the appliance is kept out of the
reach of children.

household waste at the end of its service life.
Consult your local authorities
for disposal
information and facilities available.
Help protect the environment by
recycling used appliances.
Cleaning and care
Caution
Never use petrol, solvents or abrasive
cleaners, metal objects or hard brushes to
clean the appliance.
Never put the appliance in water or any other
liquid.
1. Before cleaning, switch the appliance off
and disconnect it from the wall socket.
2. Let the appliance cool down completely.
3. Wipe the outside with only a slightly
moistened cloth ensuring that no moisture,
oil or grease enters the cooling slots.
Do not clean the inside or outside with any
abrasive scouring pad or steel wool as this
will damage the finish.
4. Clean the body with a rag. Do not
immerse in water or wash with splashing
water.
5. Clean the appliance after each use.
Note
Before using the appliance after cleaning,
dry all parts carefully using a soft towel.

Warranty

This certificate is issued by DEFY APPLIANCES (PTY) LIMITED manufacturers of Defy
and Ocean products, hereinafter the Company, to the original purchaser only, of the
appliance described on the certificate and shall constitute the only warranty given in
respect of this appliance.
The Company warrants to the original purchaser that for a period of TWO YEARS from
date of purchase the appliance is free from defect under normal domestic use, both in
workmanship and material, subject to the following conditions.
1. Carry-in service. Small appliances are repaired in our service centres and are not
collected from the customers home. Faulty units must be delivered to the purchasing
dealer or to the nearest Company Service Centre for warranty repairs.
2. Vitreous enamelware, fuses and lamps are specifically excluded from these warranties. It
is an express condition of these warranties that the purchaser takes due care and
attention in the use and maintenance of the appliance. Abuse, misuse in conflict with
operating instructions, connection to incorrect voltages and subjection to commercial use
shall release the Company from its obligations.
3. This warranty shall become void and cease to operate if the appliance is dismantled by,
or any repairs to the appliance are effected by any persons not duly authorised by the
Company, or if substitute parts not approved by the Company are used in the appliance,
or if the serial number of the appliance is removed.
4. The Company shall not be responsible for damages resulting from fire, flood, civil
disturbances or any Act of God. The Company shall not, in terms of these warranties be
responsible nor held liable for any consequential loss or damage of any kind caused by or
due to the failure or malfunction of the appliance. The Company shall not be responsible
for damages caused by insect and/or animal infestation.
5. The Company shall not be responsible for transportation or other costs other than those
incurred within the provisions of Point 1 of this Certificate.
6. For warranties in the Republic of South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, please
contact the customer care line. Please refer to the previous page for respective
South African branches and Sub-Saharan Africa branches.
7. Where service is requested under warranty and no fault or defect can be found by the
Company, all costs incurred will be for the purchaser's account.
8. This Certificate as well as your invoice will serve as proof of purchase. For the purpose
of warranty, it will be essential to produce this Certificate and invoice. Failure to do so, will
render the purchaser liable for service costs.
KEEP THIS CERTIFICATE AND SALES INVOICE AS PROOF OF
PURCHASE FOR WARRANTY PURPOSES.
