Introduction
The XI-WSG is an expansion interface that adds SoundGrid input/output to the Roland M-5000 and M-5000C mixing consoles. Installing the XI-WSG
makes it possible to use Waves plug-in eects that utilize the Waves SoundGrid system.
About This Document
This guide describes the basic operations for using Waves MultiRack SoundGrid to congure a Waves SoundGrid system that utilizes the
M-5000/M-5000C.
About the Operation of Waves Products
For detailed information on how to operate MultiRack SoundGrid, refer to the "WAVES MultiRack USER GUIDE" (PDF) available from Waves.
Also, the procedures for creating a Waves account, registering and using Waves applications, and other operations described in this guide are
those in eect when this guide was published. For the latest information, check the Waves website (http://www.waves.com/).

Preparing the Necessary Equipment and Waves Applications
This section describes how to prepare the required equipment and Waves applications for conguring a Waves SoundGrid system.
Hardware
5 Mixing console: Roland M-5000/M-5000C
5 XI-WSG: This is installed on the M-5000/M-5000C to add SoundGrid input/output. This makes it possible to use Waves
plug-in eects that utilize the Waves SoundGrid system.
5 Waves SoundGrid DSP server: This is the computer used to operate the Waves SoundGrid plug-ins. When conguring a redundant system,
have two servers on hand.
5 Computer (host): This is the computer for running MultiRack SoundGrid and other Waves applications.
* To check the operating environment for the computer, see the Waves website (http://www.waves.com/).
5 Ethernet cable: This is used to connect SoundGrid-compatible devices to one another. Use an Ethernet cable rated at Cat5e
(Category 5e) or higher.
5 USB ash drive:
You transfer Waves product licenses to this USB ash drive and use it as a USB license key.
* Have this on hand as required.
Software/Waves Applications
5 Waves Central: This is an application for installing and activating Waves products, and for managing their licenses (p. 6).
5 MultiRack SoundGrid V9: This is a host application for controlling SoundGrid-compatible plug-ins (p. 5, 7).
5 V9 plug-in: This is a plug-in compatible with MultiRack SoundGrid V9.
* The V9 plug-in does not come with the XI-WSG, and must be purchased separately.
5 XI-WSG driver: This is an audio driver that is required for operating the XI-WSG (p. 5, 7).
5 SoundGrid driver: This is an audio driver that is compatible with ASIO and Core Audio. It is required for accomplishing recording
and playback on a computer (host) using DAW software.
When you install MultiRack SoundGrid, the SoundGrid driver is also installed at the same time.

To use Waves products, you must create a Waves account.
Creating a Waves account generates your own exclusive page for registering your personal data, product serial numbers, and other information.
MEMO
If you already have an account, creating a new one is not necessary.
1. Access the Waves website (http://www.waves.com/).
2. At the upper right of the page, click “Create Account.
3. When the input screen appears, enter your information and click “SUBMIT.
4. When you receive the e-mail message from Waves at the e-mail address you registered, click the link in the message within 24
hours of receipt.
Click the link appearing below “Please click the link below to activate your account:” in the e-mail message.
The Waves account you created is activated.
5. When the login page for your Waves account appears, registration is complete.
Enter the username and password you registered, then click “LOG IN” to log in to your Waves account.

Registering Waves Products (Registration)
Using the XI-WSG and MultiRack SoundGrid requires registration. Register the product serial numbers from your Waves account page.
The serial numbers are given in the About XI-WSG/MultiRack SoundGrid Registration” leaet included with the XI-WSG.
1. Access the Waves website (http://www.waves.com/).
2. Use “Log In at the upper-right area of the page to log in to your Waves account.
3. At the menu, click “REGISTER NEW PRODUCTS.
4. When the Register New Product screen appears, enter the product serial number and click “SUBMIT.
This completes registration.
The product is added to My Products in your Waves account, and you can now install the product.
* When registration is complete, the screen shown below appears. Clicking “DOWNLOAD & ACTIVATE” displays a screen that explains the steps to
install and activate the product.

Installing Waves Applications
1. Waves Central
You use Waves Central to carry out installation and activation for the Waves applications that are needed to congure a Waves SoundGrid system.
The rst step is to install and set up Waves Central on your computer.
1. Access the Waves website (http://www.waves.com/), and from the Downloads page, download the latest installer.

Double-click the installer, then follow the installer's instructions to install and set up.
Mac
Double-clicking the DMG le starts the quick installer.
Drag the Waves Central icon to your Applications folder to install.
3. After completing installation, start Waves Central.
The following three menu items appear.

EASY INSTALL
& ACTIVATE
You select this when you have purchased a Waves product for the rst
time or have purchased a new Waves product.
This carries out installation and activation (moving the license from the
cloud to your computer) for the Waves product at the same time.
INSTALL PRODUCTS
You select this when the Waves product is already registered or when
you want to update an installed Waves product to the latest state.
MANAGE LICENSES
You select this when you want to activate the license for a Waves
product (moving the license from the cloud to your computer or a USB
ash drive) or to move a license from the computer to a USB ash drive
or vice versa.
When the Waves Central Login Screen Appears
Operations such as selecting the Waves Central menu item display the login screen for Waves Central.
At this time, log in to Waves Central by entering the login ID and password for the account under which you
registered the Waves products.

2. XI-WSG Driver / MultiRack SoundGrid
From Waves Central, install the XI-WSG driver and MultiRack SoundGrid.
* The V9 plug-in does not come with the XI-WSG, and must be purchased separately.
1. Start Waves Central, and from the Waves Central menu, click “INSTALL PRODUCTS.
The Install screen appears.
2. At “1. Install from, click “Online.
Products registered under your Waves account are displayed under “2. Choose products to install.
3. Go to “2. Choose products to install” and click “MultiRack SoundGrid and “Roland XI-WSG Driver.
“MultiRack SoundGrid and “Roland XI-WSG Driver appear under “3. Selected products.
4. Click “INSTALL at the lower-right area of the screen.
Installation is carried out.
MEMO
Activation is required in order to use the installed MultiRack SoundGrid and V9 plug-in. For information on how to carry out activation, refer to
Activating Waves Products” (p. 8).

To use MultiRack SoundGrid and the V9 plug-in, you must activate them using Waves Central.
The activation destination is your computer (hard disk) or a USB ash drive. If you want to perform activation using a USB ash drive, connect the
ash drive to the computer.
1. Start Waves Central, and from the Waves Central menu, click “MANAGE LICENSES.
The Manage Licenses screen appears.
2. At “1. Select source, click “My Licenses Cloud.
The licenses on the Waves server are listed under “2. Select products.
3. At “2. Select products, click the check boxes for the licenses you want to activate to select them.

4. At “3. Send licenses to, click the device to use as the activation destination (computer or USB ash drive).
5. Click “SEND LICENSES” at the lower-right area of the screen.
Activation is performed at the device you selected in step 4.

MultiRack SoundGrid Settings
Here you make settings in MultiRack SoundGrid for network audio routing and plug-ins.
1. Start MultiRack SoundGrid.
2. Display the Preferences window, then make the setting for the LAN port to use to connect to the network.

Use “Local LAN Port to select the LAN port to use to connect to the network.
When a connection to the network is established, the message “SoundGrid network found”
is displayed.

Click “OK.
3. Display the SOUNDGRID INVENTORY window and allocate assignment numbers to network devices.

Select “Audio menu “SoundGrid Inventory” to display the SOUNDGRID INVENTORY window.

Use the ASSIGN” eld to allocate an assignment number, and select the device to use in the network.
The “DEVICE” column displays all usable devices on the network.
I/O DEVICES
Roland XI-WSG Allocate “1” to this. If multiple XI-WSG units are installed, allocate sequential assignment numbers to them, starting with “1.
MultiRack MultiRack is automatically allocated “1.
SG Driver
When performing recording or playback using DAW software, allocate “1” to this. When you're using only plug-ins, no setting is required.
* When you're using the SoundGrid driver, start the SoundGrid Driver Control Panel and use “Local LAN Port” to make the setting for the LAN
port to use to connect to the network. This ensures that SG Driver is displayed in the “DEVICE” column.
SOUNDGRID SERVERS
SG Server Allocate “1” to the primary server and “2” to any backup server.

4. Display the XI-WSG Control Panel and set the clock source and sampling rate.

Click “Audio menu “SoundGrid Inventory “SETTINGS” for the XI-WSG to display the XI-WSG Control Panel.

5. Display the SOUNDGRID CONNECTIONS window and make the settings for audio routing.

Double-click “DOUBLE-CLICK TO ADD A CONNECTION” to add a eld for connection settings.

Make the settings for the sending device (SOURCE) and the receiving device (DESTINATION).

6. Display the Add Rack dialog box and add racks to MultiRack SoundGrid.

Double-click the area labeled “Click To Add Rack to display the Add Rack dialog box.

In the Add Rack dialog box, make the settings for Add” and Type.
Add Specify the number of racks to add.
Type Specify the rack type (left for input and right for output). You can also change the setting for the rack type after adding racks.

Click “OK.
Blank racks are added to MultiRack SoundGrid.
7. In MultiRack SoundGrid, make the input/output channel and plug-in settings for each rack.

Click one of the buttons on either side of the rack (left for input and right for output), and from the audio I/O list, select a channel number.

Click “+” and select the plug-in to add.
This completes the basic settings for MultiRack SoundGrid.

XI-WSG Control Panel
At the XI-WSG Control Panel, in addition to changing the clock source for the XI-WSG, you can also check the status of synchronization, system
information, and other data.
1. In MultiRack SoundGrid, from the SOUNDGRID INVENTORY window (“Audio” menu SoundGrid Inventory”), click “SETTINGS”
for the XI-WSG.
The XI-WSG Control Panel appears.

Clicking “ID to turn it on (lighted) makes the REAC/SLOT indicator for expansion slot D or E where

You can perform the same operation by going to MultiRack SoundGrid, and in the SOUNDGRID INVENTORY window, clicking “ID for

SYSTEM INFO This changes to the SYSTEM INFO screen. This displays the XI-WSG's MAC address, version information, and other data.
CLOCK
This changes to the CLOCK screen. This lets you specify a clock source for the XI-WSG and also displays the synchronization status and
other information.

On the M-5000 or M-5000C, you change the setting for the clock source as required.
Clock Source Setting
When the XI-WSG's clock source (SOURCE) has been set to set to “Internal” or “Sync-over-Ethernet” at the XI-WSG Control Panel (p. 15), you use the
following method to specify the clock source on the M-5000 or M-5000C.
1. At the SYSTEM window, tap <WORD CLOCK> to display the WORD CLOCK window.
2. Set “CLOCK SOURCE” to “D: (EXPANSION SLOT D)” (or “E: (EXPANSION SLOT E)”).
This performs synchronization to the word-clock signal of the XI-WSG installed in expansion slot D (or E).
Displaying XI-WSG Information
When an XI-WSG is installed in an expansion slot, the information shown below is displayed on the SLOT D tab or SLOT E tab of the REAC/SLOT
window.

This displays the synchronization status of the XI-WSG.
LINK The system is synchronized to clock information. Alternatively, the XI-WSG is the clock source.
UNLINK The system is not currently synchronized.
PRODUCT VERSION This displays the product version information shown in MultiRack SoundGrid.
I/F VERSION This displays the software version of the XI-WSG.
