Setting up and connecting
Set-up location requirements
For safe and trouble-free operation of the appliance, the set-up
location must meet the following requirements:
For set-up, place the appliance on a firm, flat, horizontal
surface.
Do not place the appliance in a hot, wet or extremely damp
environment or in the vicinity of flammable materials.
The main power socket must be easily accessible, so that the
power cord can be easily disconnected in the event of an
emergency.
Electrical connection
Ensure that the power cord is undamaged and that it is not routed
over hot surfaces and/or sharp edges.
Ensure that the power cord is not stretched too far or kinked.
Do not let the power cord hang over edges (trip wire effect).
Before you connect the appliance to the power supply, check to
ensure that the intended power source matches the required input
requirements (voltage and frequency) on the rating plate. This
information must match to avoid damage to the appliance.
Insert the plug into the power socket.

Sealing a sealing bag
NOTES ON THE SEALING BAG
The sealing bag width may not exceed 11.02 inches (28 cm).
Otherwise, it cannot be sealed correctly.
Use only nylon/PE bags with a structure (points or
grooves) on one side and a thickness of approximately
0.17 - 0.29 mm (170 - 290 μ).
Otherwise the seam will not be air-tight and the appliance
may be damaged. You can recognize bags of this type
from the information on the packaging. The quality of the
seam will vary depending on the type and thickness of
the nylon.
The supplied sealing bag roll is suitable for temperatures
between -4 °F and 212 °F (-20 °C and +100 °C).
1) Cut the desired length for your bag from the sealing bag roll
using a pair of scissors. Cut as straight as possible.
2) Open the appliance lid 1 by pressing the lid release 8 and
opening the lid 1 upwards.
3) Place the open end of the bag into the appliance so that the
opening of the bag is located centrally under the lower sealing
ring 5. The bag should be inserted no further than the rear
limiters 6 and must lie between the front limiters 7. If the bag
reaches over one or both limiters 7, then the bag cannot be
correctly sealed.
US-EN 11
SFS 120 A2
The bag opening must lie flat on the sealing wire 4. Otherwise the
sealing does not work properly.
4) Close the appliance lid 1. The press seal 0 presses the bag
onto the sealing wire 4 to create a smooth seam. Make sure
that both corners of the appliance lid 1 click when they are
closed. If necessary, press them down once again on the
markings and until the appliance lid 1 clicks into place
and locks.
5) Press the seal button w. The red indicator light q lights up.
As soon as the sealing process is finished, the red indicator
light q turns off.
You can halt the sealing process at any time by pressing the button e.
The red indicator light q turns off.
12 US-EN SFS 120 A2
If the red indicator light q does not turn off after a maximum of 10
seconds, there is an error with the appliance.
Remove the plug from the power socket immediately. Do not
attempt to repair the appliance yourself. Contact the customer
service department.
6) Open the appliance lid 1 by pressing the lid release 8 and
flipping the appliance lid 1 upwards. Remove the bag. It is now
sealed at one end.
Ensure that the seam is properly sealed. A correct seam should be a
smooth, straight stripe without any creases.
7) Fill the bag. You must leave at least 2.4 in (6 cm) of the bag
free up to the edge to be sealed.
Fill the bag so that no food or liquids can leak out during sealing
and get into the appliance.
8) If you do not want to vacuum the bag, you can now seal the
other, open side.
Wait 15 seconds before you start to seal another bag. The appliance
needs to cool down.
During this cooling down period, the appliance cannot be started:
As soon as you press the seal button w, the red indicator light q and
the green indicator light t are flashing.
After the cooling down period, you can use the appliance again.
US-EN 13
SFS 120 A2
Vacuuming the sealing bag
You can also suck the air out of the bag (vacuum) during sealing:
Do not vacuum bags that contain liquids.
The liquids will get into the appliance and damage it.
1) Place the open end of the bag into the appliance so that the
opening of the bag is located centrally under the lower sealing
ring 5. The bag should be inserted no further than the rear
limiters 6 and must lie between the front limiters 7. Otherwise,
the vacuuming and sealing will not function correctly:
2) Close the appliance lid 1. Make sure that both corners of the
appliance lid 1 click when they are closed. If necessary, press
them down once again on the markings and so that the
appliance lid 1 clicks into place and locks.
14 US-EN SFS 120 A2
Ensure that the upper 9 and the lower sealing rings 5 are not damaged!
Otherwise, the appliance cannot suck the air out of the bag.
If one of the sealing rings 9/5 is damaged, pull the damaged one out
of its recess and push the replacement sealing ring into this recess.
3) Press the vacuum/sealing button r. The green indicator
light t lights up and the appliance sucks the air out of the bag.
As soon as all the air is sucked out, the red indicator light q
lights up. The appliance now seals the bag.
4) If both indicator lights q/t have turned off, you can open
the lid by pressing the lid release 8 and flipping the appliance
lid 1 upwards. Remove the vacuum-sealed bag.
You can stop the air extraction process at any time by pressing the stop
button e. The green indicator light t will then turn off. Press the vacuum/
sealing button r again to resume the extraction process.
If the appliance has already switched to the sealing process and the red
indicator light q is lit, the process can be stopped with the stop button e.
The appliance then stops the sealing process.
After you have sealed and vacuumed 5 bags, you must wait 1 minute
before you can start sealing/vacuuming another bag. The appliance
needs to cool down.
During this cooling down period, the appliance cannot be started:
As soon as you press the seal button w or the vacuum/sealing but-
ton r, the red indicator light q and the green indicator light t begin to
flash. After the cooling down period, you can use the appliance again.

SFS 120 A2
TIP – "SOUS-VIDE COOKING"
Since the supplied nylon bag is suitable for temperatures
between -4 °F and 212 °F (-20 °C and 100 °C), it can
be used for the so-called "sous-vide" cooking process (vac-
uum cooking). "Sous-vide" is French and means "under
vacuum".
In vacuum cooking, the food (usually fish or meat, but
vegetables can also be used) is vacuum-sealed in a bag
and then cooked in water or steam cooked at a relatively
low temperature (122 °F to 194 °F resp. 50 °C to 90 °C).
The advantage of this is that flavors or aroma are not lost
during cooking. The food does not dry out and the vita-
mins and flavors are preserved. Herbs or spices that are
vacuum-sealed in the bag with the food give off a more
intense flavor.
Cleaning
Risk of fatal injury from electrocution!
Remove the plug from the power socket before beginning to clean
the appliance.
Ensure that no moisture can penetrate the appliance during cleaning.
Possible damage to the appliance.
Do not use aggressive or abrasive cleaning agents, as these may
corrode the surface of the casing.
Do not use any hard or sharp objects to remove any adhesive from
the sealing wire 4. Otherwise the sealing wire 4 or the insulation
could be damaged.
Cleaning the appliance
Clean the surface of the appliance housing with a lightly damp
cloth and a mild detergent.
Wipe off the upper 9 and the lower sealing rings 5 as well
as the press seal 0 with a damp cloth. Ensure that the appli-
ance is dry before using it again.
16 US-EN SFS 120 A2
Storage
The appliance has a built-in cord retainer 3 on the underside of
the housing, around which you can wrap the power cord when it
is not in use. This prevents the power cord from getting caught or
getting dirty, or becoming a source of hazard by hanging loosely.
Possible damage to the appliance.
Do not click-close the appliance lid 1 for storage! When the
appliance lid 1 is click-closed, it exerts permanent pressure on the
upper 9 and lower sealing rings 5 as well as the press seal 0.
This can negatively affect their function.
Store the appliance in a clean, dry place, away from direct
sunlight.
Disposal
Electrical appliances may not be thrown away as part of normal
household trash. If you can no longer use your electrical appli-
ance, dispose of it in accordance with the legal provisions appli-
cable in your state. This will ensure that old electrical appliances
are recycled and environmental pollution is kept to a minimum.
Further information about disposal is available on the Internet at
www.epa.gov.
The packaging is made of environmentally friendly materials that
can be disposed of at your local recycling center.
