Gamewright Butts on Things Operating instructions

  • Hello! I've reviewed the 'Rules of Play' for the card game, 'Butts on Things'. This game revolves around collecting cards by matching the 'butts' at the ends of lines, and there is a dump truck card that triggers a card grab. I understand the rules of card placement, collecting lines, and how to reconnect split grids. I'm ready to answer your questions about the game's mechanics and gameplay.
  • How do you collect cards?
What happens when a dump truck card is drawn?
What do you do if the butts grid splits?

72 cards (featuring 39 unique Butts on Things)
Overview
Collect cards by matching two butts on opposite ends of any lines
in play. (Cheek-to-Cheek!) Keep an eye out for an opportunity to
Grab a Buttload of cards when you spot a dump truck on a card!
Whoever collects the most cards wins.
Set Up
1. Shue the deck and deal each player a hand of ve face-down cards.
(Look at your cards but keep them secret from opponents.)
Note that on each card, the number of dots under the butt in the top
left corner indicates how many cards of that butt are in the deck.
2. Stack the rest of the cards in a face-down draw pile
within easy reach of all players.
How to Play
The person with the biggest cheeks (the ones on your face, silly!) goes rst and play continues to the
left. Each turn, do the following three steps in order:
Placing Cards
Choose any one card from your hand and place
it face up on the playing surface. If there are no
face-up cards in play, simply place your card in
the center.
If there are face-up cards already in play,
place your card face up abutting one of
them. Cards may be placed above, below,
to the left, or to the right.
For example, the gray spaces indicate all
the possible locations you could place a card:
1. PLACE A CARD Take any one card from your hand and place it face up on the playing surface.
2. COLLECT BUTTS If you match the butt on the other end of any line,
you get to collect all of the cards in that line.
3. DRAW A CARD Finish your turn by taking the top card from the draw pile
into your hand.
Matching butts must be at the very end of a line,
NOT somewhere in the middle.
Also, you may NOT collect diagonal lines.
For example, if you played the cards highlighted by
the pink stars, you could not collect the red line:
Wild-One Butts
Ordinarily, you cannot make a match with any
of the “one” butt cards in play. (Cards that only appear
once in the deck.) Except if you have a Wild-One Butt!
Play it opposite any “one” butt card to collect that line.
Note that all other rules apply for collecting a row or column.
Collecting Butts
You may collect cards if you place a butt at the
end of any line that matches the butt at the
other end of the same line. Collect the whole
line, including the matching butts, and place
them in a face-down pile in front of you.
For example, in each of these three situations,
if you placed the card highlighted by the blue stars,
you would collect the green line of cards:
Note: While rare, it’s possible that by joining two split groups together, you
create a line with matching butts on opposite ends. Collect that line of butts!
Drawing Cards
If you forget to draw a card at the end of your turn you may draw at any time.
Grab a Buttload!
If, after you draw a card, the top card of the draw pile features a dump truck butt,
that triggers an instant race to “grab a buttload” of cards! All players — without taking
turns — should grab as many face-up cards as possible from the middle of the playing
area until they have all been claimed. (Add any collected cards to your face-down pile.)
Then, restart the round by ipping over the card with the dump truck icon into the
center of the playing area. The game continues with the player whose turn was next.
Keep the Butts Together!
As the game progresses, the grid of butts will grow in the
middle. However if the grid is ever split into several smaller
groups when a player collects a line of cards, all players must
use their turns to place cards to join the butts back together
by the shortest possible link. No player may collect butts
until they are once again connected.
For example, the gray spaces indicate all the possible locations
you could place a card to connect back all of the butts:

Ending the Game
When the draw pile runs out, continue playing the cards in your
hands until everyone is out of cards. At that point, the game ends and
