Place probes on battery terminals. Without
moving the pedals or arm bars, press the
display panel ON key. Does the meter show
5.2V or more?
Yes
No
Recharge the battery: Adjust LEVEL to
lowest position; Run at 50-60 rates per
minute for half an hour. Or replace the
battery.
Without moving the pedals
or arm bars, release the
ON key. Does the display
remain lit 2 minutes before
turning off?
Yes
Normal

Does the display turn
off immediately?
Yes
No
See page 7 to determine
whether issue is in the
display board or drive board.
If the display doesn't black out
immediately but turns off in less
than two minutes, replace the
drive board (capacitor EC9
220U/16V).

Test generator output. If
none, replace the
generator. If so, inspect
the optic sensor by
probing into drive board
CN1 pins 1 and 2. Voltage
should vary with speed.
Please see page 4.

No Active Start - Generator/Sensor Test
Exercise on the unit. Place probes on generator wires. Generator output voltage (VDC) should vary
according to speed. If not, replace the generator. If generator is good, inspect the optic sensor.
Place probes on drive board connector CN1 pins 1 and 2 as shown. Voltage should vary with speed
from 0~5VDC.If voltage does vary, the optic sensor is functioning normally. Inspect the drive and
display circuit boards. See page 5. If voltage does not vary, inspect the optic sensor and drive board.
See page 6.

No Active Start – Drive/Display Test
Condition: Voltage across drive board connector CN1 pin 1 and IC U3 (40106) pin 4 should vary
from 0~5VDC.
Response: If voltage does not vary, replace the drive board. Possible bad components: IC U3(40106)
or U2(LM339) (see below). If voltage varies, the drive board is good. Perform a continuity test on the
main data cable. If it is good, replace the display. If it is bad, replace the data cable.

No Active Start – Sensor/Drive Test
Condition: Voltage across drive board CN1 connector pin 1 and 2 does not vary.
Response: Inspect optic sensor power supply from the drive board. Place probes as shown
across the red and green wires. Normal specification: 5VDC. If there is no power to the optic
sensor, replace the drive board. If there is voltage off the drive board, but no returning signal
(page 4), replace the optic sensor. Note: also inspect optic sensor wire by performing continuity
test on the wire.

No Key Start – Drive/Display Test
Condition: No one is exercising on the unit; battery voltage is appropriate; the display lights briefly
when the ON key is pressed but shuts off as soon as the ON key is not pressed.
Response:Test D7 diode voltage: Place the black probe on the negative end of CN2; place the red
probe on the positive end of diode D7. Normal voltage: 0~0.5V. If the voltage is normal, the drive
board automatic shut off function is malfunctioning. Replace drive board IC U10(HT7044) or
U3(40106) or capacitor EC11(2.2UF) or transistor Q5(C1815). If voltage exceeds 5VDC , the display
board (“shut off” signal emission) is malfunctioning. Replace the display.
