V. Installation notes
5.1 Safety precautions for engineering installation
5.1.1 The structure of the bracket may cause injury to human body;
5.1.2 The fittings on the bracket may cause harm to human body;
5.1.3 Care should be given to the height of the head and eyes;
5.1.4 In the work area, any actions are to be carried out in a careful manner.
5.2 Precautions for installation of stainless steel fasteners
Because of the good ductility of stainless steel, there is an essential difference
between it and the carbon steel; in case that the stainless fastener has been used in an
improper way, this may cause the bolt and nut cannot be taken apart after they are
fitted, and this is the so-called “seizure”, commonly known as “dead lock”. In order to
prevent against being seized, mainly the measures in the following aspects are to be
taken:
5.2.1. Decreasing the friction coefficient:
(1) Ensure that the surface of the thread is clean (e.g. there is no dust or debris);
(2) It is recommended that the surface be applied with wax or lubricant (e.g.
butter,40# oil) at the time carrying out the installation;
5.2.2. Correct methods of operation:
(1) Turning must be performed must be around an axis which is perpendicular to the
thread. Do not tilt;
(2) During the tightening process, the force be applied in an uniform manner and the
tightening torque must not exceed the specified safety torque value;
(3) A torque wrenches or socket wrench should be used as far as possible, and avoid
using a monkey wrench or an electric wrench; in case that an electric wrench is used,
reduce the rotation speed as much as possible.
(4) Avoid use a wrench in a high temperature condition; do not let the wrench to
rotate too quickly while using it, so as to avoid rapid temperature rise which may
leading to a seizure; (e.g. in the case where an electric wrench is used).
5.3. Things to be noted at the end of the day’s work
5.3.1 After completion of the day’s work, the small parts which are left on the site
(such as bolts, conductive pieces, etc.) should be collected so that there will be no
missing parts at the time of the final installation;
5.3.2 In case of a bad weather or the operation will not be carried out for an
extended period of time, please arrange the parts properly to prevent any part on the
ground to be covered with dirt or lost after a rain.
