TRACTION HUB KIT
for 1997 824XL Snowthrowers Models 38083 & 38084
1. Remove eight screws securing back plate and
bottom plate (Fig. 1).

2. Remove master link and roller chain (Fig. 2).
3. Remove hex shaft assembly by removing four
bearing mounting screws (Fig. 2).
4. Remove friction wheel, traction hub and slider
ring from hex shaft (Fig. 2).
5. Remove friction wheel from hub by removing
four screws and lock nuts (Fig. 2).
6. Remove slider ring by removing snap ring and
thrust washer (Fig. 2).
IMPORTANT: If a burr prevents easy
disassembly of slider ring from traction hub,
the burr must be removed with a file to avoid
damaging the slider ring bushing.
7. Reassemble in reverse order, using all the new
parts included in this kit. Apply a coat of oil to
all sliding and rotating surfaces.
IMPORTANT: The standard thrust washer
goes between the slider ring and the traction
hub. The keyed thrust washer goes between
the slider ring and the snap ring (Fig. 2).
8. Refer to the Adjusting Traction Drive section in
your owners manual for adjustment information.


