SafeOperatingPractices

Thisproductiscapableofamputatinghandsandfeetand

throwingobjects.Alwaysfollowallsafetyinstructionsto

Training

•Readtheinstructionscarefully.Befamiliarwiththe

levers.Themainreasonsforlossofcontrolare:

◊insufcientwheelgrip,especiallyonwetgrass;

◊inadequatebraking;

◊thetypeofmachineisunsuitableforitstask;

◊lackofawarenessoftheeffectofground

conditions,especiallyslopes;

◊incorrecthitchingandloaddistribution.

Preparation

•Whileoperatingthemachine,alwayswearsubstantial,

slip-resistantfootwearandlongtrousers.Donotoperate

themachinewhenbarefootorwearingopensandals.

•Thoroughlyinspecttheareawherethemachineistobe

usedandremoveallobjectswhichmaybethrownbythe

machine.

•Warning–Fuelishighlyammable.

–Storethefuelincontainersspecicallydesignedfor

thispurpose.

–Refueloutdoorsonlyanddonotsmokewhile

refuelling.

–Addfuelbeforestartingtheengine.Neverremove

thecapofthefueltankoraddfuelwhiletheengineis

runningorwhentheengineishot.

–Iffuelisspilled,donotattempttostarttheengine

butmovethemachineawayfromtheareaofspillage

andavoidcreatinganysourceofignitionuntilfuel

vaporshavedissipated.

–Replaceallfueltanksandcontainercapssecurely.

•Replacefaultysilencers.

•Beforeusing,alwaysvisuallyinspecttoseethatthe

blades,bladebolts,andcutterassemblyarenotwornor

damaged.Replacewornordamagedbladesandboltsin

setstopreservebalance.

•Onmulti-bladedmachines,takecareasrotatingoneblade

cancauseotherbladestorotate.

Operation

•Lightningcancausesevereinjuryordeath.Iflightning

isseenorthunderisheardinthearea,donotoperate

themachine;seekshelter.

•Bealert,slowdown,andusecautionwhenmakingturns.

Lookbehindandtothesidebeforechangingdirections.

•Donotoperatetheengineinaconnedspacewhere

dangerouscarbonmonoxidefumescancollect.

•Operatethemachineindaylightoringoodarticiallight

only.

•Beforeattemptingtostarttheengine,disengageallblade

attachmentclutchesandshiftthemachineintotheneutral

position.

•Donotusethemachineonslopesgreaterthan15degrees.

•Thereisnosuchthingasasafeslope.Travelon

grassslopesrequiresparticularcare.Toguardagainst

overturning:

–Donotstoporstartsuddenlywhenonaslope;

–Useslowspeedsonslopesandduringtightturns;

–Stayalertforhumpsandhollowsandotherhidden

hazards;

•Usecarewhenpullingloadsorusingheavyequipment.

–Useonlyapproveddrawbarhitchpoints.

–Limitloadstothoseyoucansafelycontrol.

–Donotturnsharply.Usecarewhenreversing.

•Watchfortrafcwhencrossingornearroadways.

•Stopthebladesbeforecrossingsurfacesotherthangrass.

•Whenusinganyattachments,neverdirectdischargeof

thematerialtowardbystandersnorallowanyonenearthe

machinewhileinoperation.

•Neveroperatethemachinewithdamagedguardsor

withoutsafetyprotectivedevicesinplace.

•Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingsoroverspeed

theengine.Operatingtheengineatexcessivespeedcan

increasethehazardofpersonalinjury.

•Beforeleavingtheoperator'sposition:

–disengagethepowertake-offandlowerthe

attachments;

–putthemachineintotheneutralpositionandsetthe

parkingbrake;

–stoptheengineandremovethekey.

•Disengagedrivetoattachments,stoptheengine,and

disconnectthesparkplugwire(s)orremovetheignition

key

–beforeclearinganyblockagesoruncloggingthechute;

–beforechecking,cleaning,orworkingonthemachine;

–afterstrikingaforeignobject.Inspectthemachine

fordamageandmakerepairsbeforerestartingand

operatingthemachine;ifthemachinestartstovibrate

abnormally(checkimmediately).

•Disengagethedrivetotheattachmentswhentransporting

themachineorwhenthemachineisnotinuse.

•Stoptheengineanddisengagethedrivetotheattachment

–beforerefuelling;

–beforeremovingthegrasscatcher;

–beforemakingheightadjustmentunlessadjustment

canbemadefromtheoperator'sposition.

•Reducethethrottlesettingduringenginerun-outand,if

theengineisprovidedwithashut-offvalve,turnthefuel

offattheconclusionofmowing.

MaintenanceandStorage

•Keepallnuts,bolts,andscrewstighttoensurethatthe

machineisinsafeworkingcondition.

•Neverstorethemachinethathasfuelinthetankinsidea

buildingwherefumescanreachanopenameorspark.

•Allowtheenginetocoolbeforestoringthemachinein

anyenclosure.

•Toreducerehazard,keeptheengine,silencer,battery

compartment,andfuelstorageareafreeofgrass,leaves,

orexcessivegrease.

•Checkthegrasscatcherfrequentlyforwearor

deterioration.

•Replacewornordamagedpartsforsafety.

•Drainthefueltankoutdoors.

•Onmulti-bladedmachines,takecareasrotatingoneblade

cancauseotherbladestorotate.

AddingFuel

Theenginerunsonclean,freshdieselfuelwithaminimum

octaneratingof40.Purchasefuelinquantitiesthatcanbe

usedwithin30daystoensurefuelfreshness.

Usesummergradedieselfuel(No.2-D)attemperatures

above-7degreesCelsius(20degreesFahrenheit)andwinter

gradedieselfuel(No.1-DorNo.1-D/2-Dblend)below-7

degreesCelsius(20degreesFahrenheit).Useofwintergrade

dieselfuelatlowertemperaturesprovideslowerashpoint

andpourpointcharacteristics,thereforeeasingstartabilityand

lesseningchancesofchemicalseparationofthefueldueto

lowertemperatures(waxappearance,whichmaypluglters).

Useofsummergradedieselfuelabove-7degreesCelsius

(20degreesFahrenheit)willcontributetowardlongerlifeof

thepumpcomponents.

Important:Donotusekeroseneorgasolineinsteadof

dieselfuel.Failuretoobservethiscautionwilldamage

theengine.

BiodieselReady

Thismachinecanalsouseabiodieselblendedfuelofup

toB20(20%biodiesel,80%petrodiesel).Thepetrodiesel

portionshouldbeloworultralowsulfur.

Observethefollowingprecautions:

•Thebiodieselportionofthefuelmeetspecication

ASTMD6751orEN14214.

•TheblendedfuelcompositionshouldmeetASTMD975

orEN590.

•Paintedsurfacesmaybedamagedbybiodieselblends.

•UseB5(biodieselcontendof5%)orlesserblendincold

weather.

•Monitorseals,hoses,gasketsincontactwithfuelasthey

maybedegradeovertime.

•Fuellterpluggingmaybeexpectedforatimeafter

convertingtobiodieselblends.

•Contactyourdistributorifyouwishformoreinformation

onbiodiesel.

FillingtheFuelTank

Note:Donotllthefueltankcompletelyfull.Fillthefuel

tanktothebottomofthellerneck.Theemptyspaceinthe

tankallowsthegasolinetoexpand.

1.Shuttheengineoffandsettheparkingbrake.

2.Cleanaroundeachfueltankcapandremovethecap.

Fillthefueltanktothebottomofthellerneck.This

spaceinthetankallowsthefueltoexpand.Donotll

thefueltankcompletelyfull.

3.Installthefueltankcapsecurely.Wipeupanyfuelthat

mayhavespilled.

4.Ifpossible,llthefueltankaftereachuse.Thiswill

minimizepossiblebuildupofcondensationinsidethe

fueltank.

CheckingtheEngine-OilLevel

Beforeyoustarttheengineandusethemachine,check

theoillevelintheenginecrankcase;refertoCheckingthe

Engine-OilLevel(page38).

SwitchingtheFuelTanks

Important:Donotrunthemachineoutoffuel.This

maycauseenginedamageandrequirethefuelsystem

tobechecked.

Thefuel-selectorvalveislocatedbehindtheleftsideofthe

seat.

Theunithastwofueltanks.Onetankisontheleftsideand

oneontherightside.Eachtankconnectstothefuel-selector

valve.Fromthereacommonfuellineleadstotheengine

(Figure7).

Tousetheleftsidefueltankrotatethefuel-selectorvalveto

theLH,left-handlocation.Tousetherightsidefueltank

rotatethefuel-selectorvalvetotheRH,right-handlocation

(Figure7).
