English
For your protection, please read these safety instructions completely before
operating the appliance, and keep this manual for future reference.
Carefully observe all warnings, precautions and instructions on the appliance,
or those described in the instruction manual and adhere to them.
USE
Power sources
This unit should be operated only from the type of power
source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the
type of electrical power supplied to your home, consult your
dealer or local power company. For those units designed to
operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the
operating instructions.
Grounding or polarization
The unit is equipped with a polarized AC power cord plug (a
plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit
into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If
you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try
reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact
your electrician to have a suitable outlet installed. Do not defeat
the safety purpose of the polarized plug by forcing it in.
Overloading
Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords or convenience
receptacles beyond their capacity, since this can result in fire or
electric shock.
Liquid and foreign objects
Never push objects of any kind into the unit through openings
as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts
that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of
any kind on the unit.
Attachments
Do not use attachments not recommended by the manufacturer,
as they may cause hazards.
Cleaning
Unplug the unit from the wall outlet before cleaning or polishing
it. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a cloth
lightly dampened with water for cleaning the exterior of the unit.
Important safeguards
6
INSTALLATION
Water and moisture
Do not use the powerline operated unit near water – for
example, near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink, or laundry
tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool, etc.
Power cord protection
Route the power cord so that it is not likely to be walked on or
pinched by items placed upon or against it, paying particular
attention to the plugs, receptacles, and the point where the cord
exits from the unit.
Ventilation
The slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for
necessary ventilation. To ensure reliable operation of the unit,
and to protect it from overheating, these slots and openings
must never be blocked or covered.
Never cover the slots and openings with a cloth or other
materials.
Never block the slots and openings by placing the unit on a
bed, sofa, rug or other similar surface.
Accessories
Do not place the unit on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket,
or table. The unit may fall, causing serious injury to a child or
an adult, and serious damage to the unit. Use only a cart, stand,
tripod, bracket, or table recommended by the manufacturer.
An appliance and cart combination should be moved with care.
Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause
the appliance and cart combination to overturn.
Never place the unit in a confined space, such as a bookcase,
or built-in cabinet, unless proper ventilation is provided.
– Do not place the unit near or over a radiator or heat register,
or where it is exposed to direct sunlight.

ANTENNAS
Outdoor Antenna Grounding – If an outdoor antenna or cable system is installed,
follow the precautions below.
An outdoor antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power
lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can come in contact with
such power lines or circuits.
WHEN INSTALLING AN OUTDOOR ANTENNA SYSTEM, EXTREME CARE
SHOULD BE TAKEN TO KEEP FROM CONTACTING SUCH POWER LINES OR
CIRCUITS AS CONTACT WITH THEM IS ALMOST INVARIABLY FATAL.
Be sure the antenna system is grounded so as to provide some protection against
voltage surges and built-up static charges. Section 810 of the National Electrical
Code provides information with respect to proper grounding of the mast and
supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit,
size of grounding conductors, location of antenna-discharge unit, connection to
grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode.
Lightning
For added protection for this unit during a lightning storm, or when it is left
unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and
disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the unit due to
lightning and power-line surges.

Vehicle safety
The PS one
console can be used in a vehicle when connected to an LCD screen (for
PS one
) and SCPH-170 U car adaptor (for PS one
) (sold separately). For safe
operation, follow these precautions:
Before using the console in a vehicle, carefully read the instruction manual
supplied with the car adaptor (for PS one
).
Never use the console while operating a vehicle or when seated in the front
passenger seat. Only backseat passengers should use this product.
Make sure that the product and its parts, such as the car adaptor cord, do not
interfere in any way with the driver’s operation of the vehicle.
Do not use the console in such a way that it could distract the driver.
Observe all laws governing the use of portable devices in vehicles.
Make sure that the console will not interfere with the air bag or cause injury if
the air bag system is deployed.
Do not leave the console or LCD screen in a vehicle with its windows closed, as
this could damage these products.
Do not leave the car adaptor plugged in when the vehicle is not in use.
Never leave children unattended in a vehicle, whether playing with the PS one
console or not.
Safety
This product has been designed with the highest concern for safety. However, any
electrical device, if used improperly, has the potential for causing fire, electrical
shock or personal injury. To ensure accident-free operation, follow these guidelines:
Observe all warnings, precautions and instructions.
Stop use immediately if the device functions in an abnormal manner, or
produces unusual sounds or smells.
Do not touch the AC adaptor with wet hands.
Do not touch or ingest any fluid leaking from a damaged LCD screen (for
PS one
). If any fluid gets into the eyes or mouth, flush with water and consult
a physician immediately.
If the device does not function properly, contact our technical support line at
1-800-345-7669 for assistance.
Health
To help prevent eye strain:
Take a break of about 15 minutes during every hour of play.
Do not play a game when you are tired or short of sleep.
Play in a well-lit room and keep a safe distance from the LCD screen.
When using headphones with the LCD screen, turn the volume down as far as it
will go before putting on the headphones. Adjust the volume as necessary after the
game or audio CD has started.
Precautions
11
English
Listening to loud sounds for an extended period of time can have a harmful effect
on one’s hearing. This is especially true when using headphones. When using
headphones, keep the volume at a moderate level to avoid harming your ears. If
you experience a ringing in your ears, turn the volume down or stop use of the
headphones.
Avoid prolonged physical contact with the LCD screen or AC adaptor as this may
cause low temperature burns.
Use and handling
Failure to follow the precautions below may result in damage to the LCD screen
(for PS one
), the PS one
console or the disc in use.
Operate the LCD screen only on 120V AC, 60 Hz.
Never disassemble or modify the LCD screen or AC adaptor.
Do not expose the LCD screen or AC adaptor to high temperatures, high
humidity, or direct sunlight, or to extreme cold (use in an environment where
temperatures range 5°C-35°C/41°F-95°F).
Do not use the LCD screen in a dusty location.
Do not block the air vents or wrap up the LCD screen, as doing so may cause
heat to build up internally.
Do not use the LCD screen on a rug or carpet.
Do not allow liquid or small particles to get into the LCD screen.
Do not put heavy objects on the LCD screen or AC adaptor.
Do not throw or drop the LCD screen or AC adaptor, or subject either item to
strong physical shock.
Do not shake the LCD screen while in use, or subject it to vibration.
Do not place, or use the LCD screen on an unstable surface.
Do not place the LCD screen close to magnetic fields.
Screen
Direct exposure to sunlight may damage the screen. Be careful when using the
LCD screen outdoors or near a window.
Do not push on, scratch or put objects on top of the screen as this may damage
it.
When using the LCD screen in a cold environment, you may notice shadows on
the graphics or the screen may appear darker than usual. This is not a
malfunction and the screen will return to normal when the temperature goes
up.
Do not leave still images displayed on the screen for extended periods of time.
This may cause a faint image to be left permanently on the screen.
Some parts of the LCD screen may become warm during use. This is a normal
condition. However, if any part of the unit becomes hot to the touch, remove
the AC adaptor from the electrical outlet immediately and contact our technical
support line at 1-800-345-7669 for assistance.
12
AC adaptor
Use the supplied SCPH-121 AC adaptor only. Note that use of any other power
supply device (including the SCPH-113 AC adaptor supplied with the PS one
console) may result in fire, electrical shock or damage to the unit.
Do not connect the AC adaptor to a transformer as this may result in
overheating or malfunction.
When you do not intend to use the LCD screen for an extended period of time,
disconnect the AC adaptor from the electrical outlet.
When disconnecting the power cord from an electrical outlet, pull it out by
grasping the plug. Never pull the cord itself.
Even if the LCD screen is turned off, do not disconnect the AC adaptor from the
LCD screen while the other end of the cord is connected to an electrical outlet.
Moisture condensation
If the LCD screen (for PS one
) is brought directly from a cold location to a warm one,
moisture may condense inside the unit. Should this occur, the LCD screen may not
operate properly. In this case, do not turn on the console until the moisture evaporates
(this could take several hours). If the LCD screen still does not operate properly after
this period of time, contact our technical support line at 1-800-345-7669 for assistance.
Static image caution
Static, non-moving images, such as menus, configuration displays or paused images,
may leave a faint image permanently on the TV screen if left on for extended periods
of time. Projection TVs are more susceptible to this than other types of displays. Do
not operate the PS one
console in such a manner that this could occur.
Speaker magnets
The stereo speakers on the LCD screen contain magnets. Do not place metal objects
near the speakers. Also, keep magnetic tapes and discs away from the speakers.
Failure to do so may result in the loss of stored data.
Bright and dark spots on the screen
Bright spots of red, blue or green or dark spots may appear in certain locations on
the screen. The appearance of such spots is a normal occurrence associated with
LCD screens and is not a sign of malfunction. LCD panels are made using highly
precise technology and more than 99.98% of the pixels work properly. However, a
very small number of dark pixels or continuously lit pixels exist on each screen.
Also, a distorted image may remain on the screen for several seconds after the LCD
screen has been turned off.
Fluorescent tubes (backlighting)
This product uses specially designed fluorescent tubes for screen illumination.
These fluorescent tubes may wear out over time. If the screen loses brightness,
starts flickering or fails to light up, contact our technical support line at
1-800-345-7669 for assistance.
Precautions (continued)
13
English
Games
Certain games that use gun or rifle controllers to shoot at on-screen targets cannot
be used with this product.
Changing the angle of the display panel
When the LCD screen (for PS one
) is connected to the
PS one
console, the display panel can be adjusted for
viewing within the range of motion shown in the chart
at right. If too much pressure is applied to the display
panel, damage to the LCD screen may result. When
changing the angle of the display panel, be careful not to
bend it too far. Also, close the display panel when
the LCD screen is not in use.
Closing the LCD screen
When closing the LCD screen, make sure that there is nothing between the PS one
console and the LCD screen. Also, close the disc cover of the console before closing
the LCD screen. If you close both at the same time, damage to the screen may result.
Transporting the LCD screen
Before carrying the LCD screen, make sure you disconnect it from any cables. If you
drop the LCD screen, personal injury or damage to the LCD screen may result.
Cleaning the LCD screen
For safety reasons, before cleaning the LCD screen, disconnect the AC adaptor from
the electrical outlet.
Cleaning the exterior
Do not use paint thinner or other chemicals to clean the exterior of the LCD
screen as these may damage the surface. When using a commercially
available cleaning cloth, follow the usage instructions supplied with the
cloth.
If the exterior of the LCD screen becomes dirty, soak a soft cloth in a mild
detergent solution diluted with water, tightly squeeze the cloth to remove
the excess liquid, wipe the affected area of the exterior, and finish by wiping
with a dry cloth.
Cleaning the screen
Avoid touching the screen surface except when necessary for cleaning, as
this may damage it.
Do not use a wet cloth to clean the screen. If water gets inside, it may
damage the LCD screen.
If the screen becomes dirty, wipe off the screen surface with a soft, dry
cloth.
