operation.Doingso makesthemachineunsafeandmaycause personal
injury.
3. Thecontrolleversmust operateeasilyin bothdirectionsand automatically
returntothe disengagedpositionwhenreleased.
4. Neveroperatewitha missingor damagedchuteassembly.Keepall safety
devicesin placeandworking.
5. Neverrunan engineindoorsor inapoorlyventilatedarea.Engineexhaust
containscarbonmonoxide,anodorlessanddeadlygas.
6. Donotoperatemachinewhile underthe influenceofalcoholordrugs.
7. Mufflerand enginebecomehotandcancausea burn.Donottouch.
8. Exerciseextremecautionwhenoperatingon orcrossinggravelsurfaces.

ofyourfootingandkeepafirm holdonthe handles.Walk,neverrun.
14.Disengagepowertothe auger/impellerwhentransportingor notin use.
15.Neveroperatemachineat hightransportspeedson slipperysurfaces.
Lookdownand behindandusecarewhenbackingup.
16.If themachineshouldstarttovibrateabnormally,stopthe engine,
disconnectthesparkplugwireandgroundit againsttheengine.Inspect
thoroughlyfor damage.Repairanydamagebeforestartingandoperating.
17.Disengageallcontrolleversandstop enginebeforeyouleavethe operat-
ingposition(behindthe handles).Waituntiltheauger/impellercomes
toacompletestopbeforeuncloggingthechuteassembly,makingany
adjustments,or inspections.
18.Neverputyourhandinthe dischargeor collectoropenings.Alwaysuse
theclean-outtool providedto unclogthedischargeopening.Do notunclog
chuteassemblywhileengineis running.Shutoff engineandremain
behindhandlesuntilallmovingpartshavestoppedbeforeunclogging.
19.Useonlyattachmentsandaccessoriesapprovedbythe manufacturer(e.g.
wheelweights,tirechains,cabsetc.).
20.If situationsoccurwhicharenotcoveredin thismanual,usecareand
goodjudgment.ContactyourSearsServiceCenterfor assistance.
Maintenance & Storage
1. Nevertamperwith safetydevices.Checktheirproperoperationregularly.
Referto the maintenanceand adjustmentsectionsofthis manual.
2. Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspectingmachinedisengageallcontrol
leversandstoptheengine.Waituntiltheauger/impellercometo a
completestop.Disconnectthe sparkplugwireandgroundagainstthe
enginetopreventunintendedstarting.
3. Checkboltsandscrewsfor propertightnessatfrequentintervalstokeep
the machinein safeworkingcondition.Also,visuallyinspectmachinefor
anydamage.
4. Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingor over-speedtheengine.The
governorcontrolsthe maximumsafeoperatingspeedofthe engine.
5. Snowthrowershaveplatesandskid shoesaresubjecttowearand
damage.Foryoursafetyprotection,frequentlycheckallcomponentsand
replacewithoriginalequipmentmanufacturer's(OEM)partsonly."Useof
partswhich donotmeetthe originalequipmentspecificationsmayleadto
improperperformanceand compromisesafety!"
6. Checkcontrolsperiodicallytoverifythey engageanddisengageproperly
andadjust,if necessary.Refertothe adjustmentsectionin thisoperator's
manualfor instructions.
7. Maintainorreplacesafetyand instructionlabels,asnecessary.
8. Observeproperdisposallawsand regulationsfor gas, oil,etc.to protect
the environment.
9. Priortostoring,runmachineafewminutestoclear snowfrommachine
andpreventfreezeup ofauger/impeller.
10.Neverstorethe machineorfuelcontainerinsidewherethere isanopen
flame,sparkor pilotlightsuchas a waterheater,furnace,clothes dryer
etc.
11.Alwaysrefertothe operator'smanualfor properinstructionsonoff-season
storage.
Do not modify engine
Toavoidseriousinjury'or death,do notmodifyenginein anyway.Tampering
withthe governorsettingcanleadto arunaway'engineandcauseitto operate
at unsafespeeds.Nevertamperwithfactorysettingofenginegovernor.
Notice regarding Emissions
Engineswhicharecertifiedtocomplywith CaliforniaandfederalEPAemission
regulationsfor SORE(SmallOffRoadEquipment)arecertifiedtooperateon
regularunleadedgasoline,and may'includethefollowingemissioncontrolsys-
tems:EngineModification(EM)andThreeWayCatalyst(TWC)if soequipped.
Engine identification Decal
Thisdecalindicatestheengine'smodelnumber,specificationandthe dateof
manufacture.Pleaselookatthe decalontheengineofyourequipmentand
recordtheseinformationforfuturereference.
Theengineidentificationdecalalsoincludesenginelifespecificationsforthe
emissions-relatedusefullifeperiodofthe engine.This periodrelatestothe
emissioncompliancelifeascertifiedbyEPAand/orCARB.Tofindthe lifeperiod
specificationofthe engine,pleasereadthe enginedecalandlocatethe letter
(enclosedbyquotationmarks)betweenthewordsModerateand LifePeriod.
Matchone ofthefollowingletterswiththeletterprintedonyourdecal.For
example,HMSK80 modelsaredesignatedas:
