customer’s expectation before purchasing the machine.
The information included in this document has been pulled from various

as well as results from internal Canon testing. Specifications and other
information contained herein may vary slightly from actual device values or

1. Introduction
The Canon imagePRESS 1125P Customer Expectations Document contains
information about the features and capabilities of the Canon imagePRESS 1125P.
This document should be used as part of the presale and pre-installation planning
process to help clarify the requirements and responsibilities associated with
supporting, owning, and operating the imagePRESS 1125P. It is also
recommended that those interested in purchasing the imagePRESS 1125P have,
and familiarize themselves with, the information in this document prior to making
their purchase.

2. Product Overview
The Canon imagePRESS 1125P brings the following new capabilities to the
production printing environment:
Class Leading Image Quality 1,200 x 1,200 dpi print resolution and an
innovative twin sleeve developing system delivers sharp text and images.
Maximum Productivity Full production speeds of 125 ppm are achievable,
depending on the selected media. A maximum paper size of 13” x 19.2” is
supported. Multiple paper sources, complemented by air-assisted feeding, can
hold approximately 14,000 sheets of paper for exceptional reliability and over 1.5
hours of uninterrupted production.
Precision Printing Accurate registration, which is automatically adjusted during
print runs, ensures consistency at high speeds.
New Micro Toner Technology A newly designed mono-component toner
enables the machine to reproduce pure, rich black consistently and across a
wide range of media.
Exceptional Finishing Select from a variety of finishing options including:
perfect binder, multi-folding unit, saddle stitch finisher, punching unit, one or
three edge trimmer, and high-capacity stacker.

2.2 Offset Press vs. Digital imagePRESS
Offset printing is a technique that transfers (or “offsets”) an inked image from a
plate to a rubber blanket, and then to the printing surface. This enables the offset
press to maintain a consistent and high image quality over long print runs because
the plate never touches the paper. The process requires a substantial investment
in equipment and setup expense to achieve these results.
A digital press uses an electrostatic process to produce “offset-like” image quality
at a fraction of the cost of an offset press. In the imagePRESS 1125P digital press,
the drum is imaged; the toner is applied, and then transferred to the ITB
(Intermediate Transfer Belt). The ITB then transfers the toner to the paper in one
single pass. The small toner particle size provides high print quality with crisp thin
lines, high quality characters, smooth corners, and clean gradient transitions,
closer to that of an offset press.

2.3 Image Stabilization Control
The imagePRESS 1125P contains four separate skew adjustment rollers which
ensure that an image is placed in the same location on every sheet of paper.
Accurate front to back registration is actively adjusted during print runs, and
consistency is maintained at high speeds with non-stop operation. This works
effectively for thin paper as well. Skew adjustment and shift rollers feed thin paper
accurately without folding or crumpling.
2.4 Professional Input/Output Accessories
The imagePRESS 1125P features many robust input and output accessories that
allow customers working in production environments to complete large jobs directly
from the machine. An ARCnet (Attachable Resource Computer Network)
communications cable is used to connect the accessories to the main unit. The
ARCnet cable provides the main unit’s engine information about the accessories
that are attached and if they are working properly. The ARCnet cable also enables
seamless communication between the main unit and the accessories, as there is
no significant communication delay, regardless of the many accessories that are
connected.

3.3 Installation and Service Space
The site must provide enough space for unrestricted operation, maintenance work,
and proper ventilation. The machine dimensions are in diagrams on the following
pages. Every attempt should be made to install the equipment in a room that is
large enough to allow for proper servicing and maintenance of the equipment, and
ensure that issues, such as ventilation, odors, and dust accumulation will not be a
concern.
IMPORTANT
Keep the back of the machine at least 39.4” (1,000 mm) away from a wall.
Installation space from the back of the machine can be reduced from 39.4”
(1,000 mm) to 31.5” (800 mm) if a technician finds that there are no other space
concerns.
The floor must be level (with no bows) and flat for the stabilization and support of
the machine.

3.3.1 Minimum Space Requirements to Transport the Machine and Turn Hallway
Corners
The following table represents the minimum width that is necessary to turn
hallway corners and transport the machine to its final installation site.
IMPORTANT
The minimum doorway opening that the machine passes through prior to
installation must be at least 36” wide.
The minimum width required for turning is the diagonal length of each piece of
equipment + 19 3/4" (500 mm).
The machine should not be moved once it is in place.

your machine is configured and the optional accessories attached.
There must be enough space around the machine. The following diagrams show the

3.4 Recommended Floor Space Requirements
For a fully configured imagePRESS 1125P (3-POD Decks-C1, the Main Unit,
Multi-Drawer Document Insertion-A1, Professional Puncher-B1 and Professional
Puncher Integration Unit-A1, Perfect Binder-C1, 2-High Capacity Stackers-E1,
Paper Folding Unit-F1, Saddle Finisher-AF2, Booklet Trimmer-D1, Two-Knife
Booklet Trimmer-A1, and imagePRESS Server J200/J100 with the Integrated
Interface & Stand), it is recommended that there be at least 45 (W) x 12’ (D) of
floor space.
IMPORTANT
The imagePRESS 1125P was created to be modular in design. Your floor space,
budget, monthly copy/print volume, and applications will determine which
configuration will work best for you. Any configuration of up to 3-POD Decks-C1
(at least one POD Deck must be attached) and 2-High Capacity Stackers-E1
may be connected at once. The Saddle Finisher-AF2, Booklet Trimmer-D1, and
Two-Knife Booklet Trimmer-A1 may be connected at the same time as well.
The imagePRESS 1125P requires some type of finishing option (Saddle
Finisher-AF2, Finisher-AF1, or High Capacity Stacker-E1).
3.5 Floor Structure Requirements
The floor on which this machine is installed must have strength of at least

3.6 Network Connectivity
A standard 10/100Base-T Ethernet interface (RJ-45 jack) for device installation,
monitoring, and Mail Box access, via the Remote UI, ships standard with all
configurations.
A USB 2.0 High-Speed interface port ships standard with all configurations for
direct connection to centralized environments that want to drive all jobs through a
single host PC.

The imagePRESS 1125P requires a NEMA L14-30 receptacle for the main unit,
ARCnet accessory configuration, and proper operation.

IMPORTANT
We recommend an additional standard 120 V/15 A outlet for service tools, such
as a laptop computer or vacuum that may be used when servicing or configuring
the machine.
Use only dedicated outlets for the main unit and each optional accessory. Do not
use extension cords.
NOTE
The Punch Unit-BB1, Color Image Reader-L1 with feeder, Paper Folding Unit-F1,
and Booklet Trimmer-D1 do not require any additional outlets.
The following illustration shows the relative position of the power outlets, and
voltage requirements of each optional accessory item.
IMPORTANT
Canon USA strongly recommends that dedicated and properly grounded outlets
be provided for the devices mentioned above. The ground connection serves to
provide the internal electronics with a reference voltage. Faulty or poor ground
sources will cause this reference voltage to fall into a range that no longer serves
as a reliable reference voltage. The internal logic and programming of the
imagePRESS 1125P will not perform reliably because there is an insufficient
difference between the internal operating signal voltages and the poor ground
reference signal. A qualified electrician can measure and provide the ground
source that the imagePRESS 1125P or any computer controlled office equipment
requires.
Before installation, confirm that all necessary receptacles are available for your
machine configuration.
(Note: Phase converters and step down
transformers are not supported.)

5. Environmental Factors and Requirements
Optimum Temperature Range: Between 68°F (20°C) and 80.6°F (27°C)*
Optimum Humidity Range: Between 30% and 70%
Atmospheric Pressure: 810.6 to 1,013 hPa (0.8 to 1.0 atm)
Noise (sound level): Standby: 68 dB; Operating: 83 dB
Ozone Emissions: 0.01 ppm (parts per million) or less (initial startup)
0.35 ppm or less (after a short break-in period)

NOTE
It may be necessary to use a humidifier or dehumidifier to attain the proper
humidity levels for optimal machine performance.
5.1 Temperature and Humidity Conditions
The optimal humidity range is 30% to 70% RH (Relative Humidity) with a room
temperature of 68°F to 80.6°F (20°C to 27°C).
The machine contains intelligent technology that can sense the environmental
temperature, and optimize its performance if operated outside the temperature
range. However, productivity, paper feeding, and image quality may be affected if
the machine is operated outside of these guidelines.
The machine should not be installed in locations with significant shifts in
temperature or humidity. Areas containing water, or equipment that can
significantly alter room temperature or humidity, such as a heater, stove, or
portable air conditioner, should be avoided, unless proper environmental control is
available to achieve maximum productivity or quality capability.
The optimal humidity range for storing paper is 30% to 70% RH (Relative Humidity)
with a room temperature of 68°F to 80.6°F (20°C to 27°C). Storing paper in a
location that does not meet these specifications may affect paper feeding and
image quality. For example, if the humidity is too high, paper curling and paper
jams will increase. If the humidity is too low, paper may shrink or lose resistance,
and toner will not adhere to the paper as well.

5.1.1 Operating the Machine in a Low Temperature Environment
It is best to run your machine at a room temperature that falls within the optimal
range (68°F to 80.6°F (20°C to 27°C)); however, if a low temperature
environment cannot be avoided, and depending on your job criteria (either print
speed or image quality), you can set the machine to account for the temperature
of the room in which the machine is located.
The Adjust Fixing for Natural Conditions mode in Device Management Settings in
System Settings (from the Additional Functions screen) enables you to run the
machine at a fixed speed at any ambient temperature, or adjust the machine to
run at a speed that maximizes your machine’s productivity or image quality
output results.
There are three settings in the Adjust Fixing for Natural Conditions mode that can
improve print speed or image quality based on your site’s environmental
conditions and job criteria.
[Fixing Priority]: This mode is the default setting. Select this mode if
image quality has priority over print speed. The machine
calibrates the fixing temperature to adjust for the type of
media you select for the job, and the ambient
temperature. This mode provides the highest level of
quality, but has an impact on productivity.
[Standard]: Select this mode to achieve the engine’s rated speed
when the machine is running at a room temperature
between 59°F and 68°F (15°C and 20°C), regardless of
the selected media.
[Productivity Priority]: If the room temperature is below 59°F (15°C), select this
mode to run the machine at a constant fixing
temperature. This mode achieves output results at the
engine’s rated speed, but because of the room
temperature, it has an impact on image quality.
IMPORTANT
It is strongly recommended that you make several test prints in each mode to
determine your desired image quality results.
The Adjust Fixing for Natural Conditions mode is only available if it is enabled in
the Service Mode.

5.2 Temperature Gradient
Using an air conditioner during the winter, or if a sudden temperature change
occurs, may have an adverse affect on image positioning. Sudden temperature
changes may cause the paper to bend or contract, cause the machine to
malfunction, and form condensation. To avoid these issues, control the
temperature gradient so that it does not exceed 18°F/H (10°C/H).
5.3 Ventilation
Ensure that there is an air exchange rate of at least 1.5 times per hour, and at least
3,885 ft

) of space in the location where the machine will be installed.
This machine generates a slight amount of ozone during normal use. Although
sensitivity to ozone may vary, this amount is not harmful. Ozone may be more
noticeable during extended use or long production runs, especially in poorly
ventilated rooms. It is recommended that the room be appropriately ventilated,
sufficient to maintain a comfortable working environment, in areas of machine
operation.
5.4 Elevation Limitations
Install this machine at an elevation below 13,123’ (4,000 m) and at an air pressure
between 810.6 to 1,013 hPa (0.8 to 1.0 atm).
5.5 Lighting
We recommend installing the machine in a location with at least 500 lux
(29 1/2” (75 cm) above the floor) for normal operation and maintenance.
5.6 Sunlight
Avoid installing the machine in direct sunlight. Direct sunlight has adverse affects
on toner consistency and image quality. If direct sunlight is unavoidable, use
curtains to shade the machine. Be sure that the curtains do not block the
machine’s ventilation slots or louvers, or interfere with the electrical cord or power
supply.
5.7 Ammonia
Avoid installing the machine where ammonia is emitted. In a sufficient amount,
ammonia will attack the surfaces of the machine’s paper feed and image quality
components, thereby shortening their useful life and increasing the need for
periodic and remedial maintenance.
A professional assessment of the air quality in the room in which the machine is to
be installed is recommended prior to its installation.
