1.4 Peripherals and how to connect them
There are many connections in Epec Mobile PC, such as those for operating voltage
input, display and other external devices. The devices to be connected must be safe
and comply with general electrical safety regulations.
NOTE! Insufficient EMC and EMI properties may give rise to malfunctions in the other
actuators of the machine/vehicle.
1.5 Vehicle servicing
Disconnect the Epec Mobile PC from the voltage supply and all grounding structures
from the hardware for servicing, if welding work is to be carried out on the vehicle.
When servicing/welding a machine/vehicle, all PC connections (ground and voltage
supply) must be disconnected.
NOTE! It is also recommended that the PC be removed from the installation rack for
the duration of the work. If this is not done, the work may damage the hardware.

4 EPEC MOBILE PC
Epec Mobile PC is designed for use in harsh conditions where vibration, wide
temperature changes and moisture are encountered every day. The key features of the
system are operability and safety. Its durable, protected structure contains a powerful
processor and many important features and possibilities to implement a working
control system.
Special, complex machines and actuators call for modern technology in order to work
safely, environmentally friendly and effectively in demanding conditions. More power is
constantly required by machines. An easy-to-use vehicle information system combined
with an embedded machine control system improves the operation of the machine and
the safety of the user and the environment. With good control and information
systems, machine developers and manufacturers can build machines that make work
easy. Epec Mobile PC is a powerful system for use in machines and vehicles. High-
quality environmental tolerance, two separate CAN connections, easy installation and
other outstanding features make Epec Mobile PC an ideal alternative for use in
machines or vehicles operated in demanding environmental conditions.
CAN connections allow a seamless connection between the PC and embedded machine
control systems. The system has normal PC connections so it is possible to use
general-purpose peripherals, such as a mouse, keyboard and printer, which can easily
be connected to the system. Groundbreaking structural solutions, technical support
and quality of the overall system ensure the operability of the unit with regard to
water, dust and environmental conditions.
An automatic, integrated heating system and effective cooling system ensure that Epec
Mobile PC can be used over a broad temperature range. An extremely robust
aluminium structure and integrated vibration attenuation technology, combined with a
strong structure, help increase the durability of the device. Modularity helps
installation, and the installation technology available as an option ensures secure
connections and the easy release of the device.
The Epec Mobile PC's display unit can be installed in a location that matches ergonomic
requirements.
Today machines and vehicles carry an increasing number of electronic actuators. It is
important that the driver can use the hardware easily. Epec Mobile PC is just the right
solution to address the properties required by the operating environment.
4.1 Accessories
Video signal inputs are available for Epec Mobile PC as an option, ensuring easy-to-
install camera connections. Another option is integrated GPS and GPRS systems, which
allow the use of positioning services and wireless data transmission. A GPRS/GSM SIM
card can easily be inserted in the back of the device. External antennas can be chosen
according to the customer. There is also a Compact Flash card slot for data back-up
copying, and the card can easily be used in other devices, too. The card slot is situated
at the back of the device. Accessories include a touch screen, keyboard, mouse,
external DVD drive and the mounting plate presented in the installation section.
