SKIDSTEERSAFETYSUMMARYSECTION
It is important that all operators of this machine are familiar with all the safety aspects mentioned
below before operating the machine. Always keep a copy of this manual with the machine. It is the
responsibilityoftheoperatorofthemachinetofullyunderstandthissafetysection.RememberthatYOUare
thekeytosafety.Goodsafetypracticesprotectnotonlyyoubutalsothepeopleworkingwithandaround
you.Keepinmindthatthissafetysheetiswrittenforthistypeofmachineonly.Practiceallotherusualand
customarysafeworkingprecautions;andaboveall,rememberthatsafetyisuptoyou.
I. PRE-STARTEQUIPMENTCHECK(equipment
checkistobemadewiththeengineoff):
1. Verifythatallguardsareinplace.
2. Checkthetiresforproperinflation.
3. Inspect all hydraulic hoses and tubes for cracks,
bulges or damage. If hose or tube is bad, replace
immediately.
4. Keepequipmentandoperator’splatformcleanofoil,
fuelspillage,andanyotherdirtordebrisbuild-up.
5. Remove obstacles such as rocks, tree limbs, etc.
fromtheworkarea.Tallgrassandweedscanhide
obstacles.
II. MACHINEOPERATION:
1. Always wear safety gog-
gles when operating the
machine. Other safety
attiresuchassafetyshoes,
earprotection,gloves,hard
hats, dust masks, etc.,
shouldbewornasrequired
by warning decals on
machine,operator’smanu-
als,jobrequirements,orlocalordinancesandinsur-
ance regulations. Remove rings, watches, etc.
Avoidloosefittingclothing,whichmaygetcaught
inrotatingmachinery.
2. Do not operate the
machinewithoutallguards
inplace.
3. When operating on wet grass, reduced traction
couldcausesliding.
4. Make sure that no one is working on the machine.
Make sure the work area is clear of all persons,
animals, etc. Keep unauthorized personnel away
from the machine and attachments at all times.
Only responsible adults, who are familiar with the
instructions,aretooperatethemachine.Neverallow
childrentooperatethemachine.
5. Never attempt to connect or disconnect auxiliary
couplerswhileoperatinganyattachments.
6. Operate up and down
slopes with the heavy end
of the machine uphill. An
empty bucket makes the
rear the heavy end and a
fullbucketmakesthefront
of the machine the heavy
end. Most other attach-
ments will make the front
theheavyend.
7. Never operate machine in
an enclosed area without
venting the exhaust of the
unit. Deadly carbon mon-
oxide fumes can accumu-
late.
8. Keepallmovementonslopesslowandgradual.Do
notmakesuddenchangesinspeedordirection.
9. Avoid turning on slopes. If you must turn, turn
slowlyandkeeptheheavyenduphill.
10. Slowdownwhenturning.Sharpturnsonanyterrain
maycauselossofcontrol.
11. Neveroperatethisoranymachinerywhenfatigued,
tired,undertheinfluenceofalcohol,illegaldrugsor
medication.Youmustbeingoodphysicalcondition
and mentally alert to operate this machine.Always
beawareofobstructions,whichmaycauseinjuryto
theoperatorordamagethemachine.
12. Nevermodifythemachine.Neverremoveany part
ofthemachine(exceptforserviceandthenreinstall
beforeoperating).
13. Use only FINN approved attachments. Other
attachments can change stability of machine and
mayvoidwarranty.
14. When leaving the equipment unattended for any
reason,besureto:
A. Lowerloaderarms.
B. Shutoffengine.
C. Takekeyswithyou.
D. Ifonasteepgrade,blockthewheels.

Theseactionsarerecommendedtoavoidunauthor-
izeduse,runaway,vandalism,theftandunexpected
operationwhentheequipmentisrestarted.
15. Donotsmoke,read,eatorotherwiseloseorlessen
your attention in any manner while operating the
SkidSteer.Operatingisafulltimejob.
16. Do not carry arm in the
raised position. Always
carry loads close to the
ground.Donotstepoffof
theoperatingplatformwith
theloadraised.
17. Check carefully for overhead clearances before
drivingunderthem.Nevercontactanyobstruction.
18. Stayclearofallelectricalconductorlines.
19. Donottrytostabilizethemachinewithyourhands
orfeet.
20. Donotexceedaslopeof15degrees.Avoidstarting
orstoppingonslopes.
21. Never carry passengers on equipment or attach-
ments. This is not a toy and should not be used
for recreation. Do NOT fool around: operate in a
smoothcontrolledfashion.
22. Do not exceed the rated operating capacity, as
machine maybecome unstablewhich mayresultin
lossofcontrol.
23. Operateonlyindaylightorsufficientartificiallight.
24. Use extra care when loading or unloading the
machine onto a trailer or truck.The unit should be
lifted from the lift eye located on the top center
framemember.Whentransportingthemachineona
truck or trailer always properly secure using straps
or chainsin areas that willnotdamage equipment.
Chain tie-down rings are provided on each side of
machine.
25. Donot operate neardrop-offs, ditches, orembank-
ments.The machine could suddenly turn over if a
wheel goes over the edge of a cliff or ditch, or if
anedgecavesin.
III. MAINTENANCE:
1. Before servicing the
machine, turn off engine
andallowallmovingparts
to stop. Disconnect the
battery cables to prevent
accidental starting of the
machine. Tag the engine
operatingareatoshowthat
the machine is being ser-
viced. Use lockout/tagout procedure (29 CFR
1910.147).
2. Battery maintenance. Lead-acid batteries contain
sulfuric acid which may damage eyes or skin on
contact.Alwayswearafaceshieldtoavoidacidin
the eyes. If acid contacts eyes, flush immediately
with clean water and get medical attention. Wear
rubber gloves and protective clothing to keep acid
offskin.Lead-acidbatteriesproduceflammableand
explosive gasses. Keep arcs, sparks, flames, and
lightedtobaccoaway.
3. Filling of fuel. Never fill the fuel tank with the
engine running, or while smoking or when near an
open flame. Never smoke while handling fuel or
workingonthefuelsystem.Thefumesinanempty
container are explosive. Never cut or weld on fuel
lines,tanks,orcontainers.Wipeoffanyspilledfuel
andletdrybeforestartingengine.
NOTE:Becarefulnottoallowfuel,lubricant,hydrau-
licfluid,orcoolingfluidstopenetrateintotheground
or be dischargedintothewatersystem. Collectall
usedfluidsanddisposeofthemproperly.
4. It is recommended that only authorized genuine
FINNreplacementpartsbeusedonthismachine.
5. Fuelorhydraulicfluidunder
pressurecanpenetratethe
skin or eyes and cause
injury, blindness or death.
To check for such leaks,
use a piece of cardboard
or wood instead of your
hand. Pressuremay build
up inthehydraulicsystem
so use caution when
removingthecap.
6. Perform all maintenance with the loader arms in
theloweredposition.Ifanymaintenancerequires
the arms raised, secure the cylinder with locking
device.
7. Somepartsandassembliesarequiteheavy.Before
attemptingtounfastenanyheavypartorassembly,
arrangetosupportitbymeansofahoist,byblocking
or by use of an adequate arrangement to prevent
it from falling, tipping, swinging or moving in any
manner which may damage it or injure someone.
Allowallcomponentsonmachineorattachmentsto
coolbeforeattemptingtomaintain,adjustorservice,
orbeforestoring.
8. Stop and inspect the equipment if you strike an
object.Repairifnecessary.
9. Ifrepairsrequireuseofatorchorelectricwelder,be
sure that all flammable and combustible materials
areremoved.Fueloroilreservoirsmustbeemptied,
steam cleaned and filled with clean water before
any cutting or welding on them is attempted. Do
NOTweldorcutonanytankcontainingoil,gasoline
or their fumes or other flammable material, or any
container whose contents or previous contents are
unknown.

The Eagle Skid Steer 204 is a compact hydraulically
driven power unit. It is intended to be used with a
varietyofattachments.Thismanualisintendedtopro-
vide step-by-step instructions on the operation, care,
andmaintenanceoftheEagle204.Forbestresultsand
toinsurelongerlifeoftheequipment,pleasefollowthe
instructions carefully. For your safety read the entire
manualbeforeoperationofthisunit,aswellasallsup-
pliedmanualsandsafetyinstructionsforanyattach-

6. Checkfuellevel.Whenfillingthefueltanksleaveapproximately3/4”airgapfromthetopofthe
tankssothatthefuelhasroomtoexpandasitwarmsup.Donotfillthetankscompletelyfull.
IMPORTANT: Only use clean, fresh unleaded gasoline with an octane rating
of 87orhigher.Donot usegasoline left overfrom theprevious
season do not add oil to the gasoline or use fuel additives
containingmethanolorethanol.
NOTE: This engine isnotequipped with a spark arrestor muffler.Useor
operationofthismachineintheStateofCalifornia onanyforest-
covered or unimproved grass-covered land, without an approved
spark arrester muffler, is a violation of the law.Other states may
havesimilarlaws.
STARTINGPROCEDURE:
CAUTION: Seesafetysectionofthemanual(pages2-4)beforeoperating
themachine.
1. Standontheoperator’splatform.
2. Makesurethattheauxiliaryattachmentleversareoff(centerdetentposition).
3. Setthrottleabout1/4open.
4. Pullchokecontrolout.
5. Turnkeyclockwiseuntilthestartercatchesandenginefires.Keyswitchwillautomaticallymoveto
therunposition.
6. Pushchokecontrolinforevenrunning.
NOTE: This engine has a safety system which will shut the engine off
if the oil pressure decreases below an acceptable level or if the
enginetemperatureistoohigh.

OPERATION:
Thinksafetyfirst!PleasecarefullyreadtheSkidSteersafetysummarysectiononpages2-4andallsup-
pliedsafetyinformationonallattachmentsbeforeattemptingtooperatethemachine.Closelyfollowing
theseinstructionswillhelpyouandanybystandersavoidbodilyinjury,aswellaspreventdamagetothe
machine.
CONTROLS:
NOTE: It is very important to become familiar with all the controls in
Figure1beforeyoustarttheengineandoperatethemachine.
WARNING: Alwayskeepbothhandsonthegriphandlesandbothfeeton
theoperator’splatformwheneveroperatingthemachine.
WARNING: Always use a smooth motion whenever moving any control
lever. Never jerk any of the control levers; this will result
in the machine jerking,which could throw the operator from
themachine.
IMPORTANT: For an individual’s initial introduction to the machine, a level and
openareafreeofhazardsshouldbechosentolearnandpractice
safe operation. Do not attempt to do work with the unit until
you are proficient in its operation.When first learning to use the
machineonlyrunthethrottleuptoabout2400-2600rpm.Thiswill
limittheamountofhydraulicfluidtothewheelmotorsallowingfor
slower and smoother operation. As the operator becomes more
proficient the throttle can be increased for maximum potential of
themachine.
NOTE: The left and right-side of the machine is determined as the
operatorstandsontheplatformfacingforward.

PROPEL:
Togoforward,slowlypushthepropelleversforward.Todrivestraightequalpressureonboththerightand
leftleverisrequired.Togostraightforwardpushbothrightandleftleversthesameamountforward;the
farthertheleversarepushedforwardthefasterthemachinewillpropel.Togostraightreversesimplypull
theleversbacktowardsyou.Alwaysuseaslowandgradualmotionwheneveroperatingthemachine.Both
oftheseleversarespringcenteredtoreturntoneutralwhentheleverisreleased.
Themachineissteeredbymovingoneofthedriveleversfurtherforwardthantheother.Foragradualturn,
totheleftforexample,movetherightdriveleverfartheraheadoftheleftlever.Themachinealsohasthe
capabilitytodoatrue“pivotsteer”,whichallowsthemachinetopivotonitsownradius.Toaccomplish
thispushoneofthedriveleversforwardandpulltheotherdriveleveranequalamountbackwards.The
farthertheleversarepushed/pulledthefasterthispivotturningwilltakeplace.
Tosloworstopthemachine,movethepropelleverstowardsthecenterdetentpositiontoslowandallowto
returntocenterpositiontostopmachine
LIFTARM:
To raise the lift arm simply pull the lift arm lever back towards you. To lower the lift arm, push
the same lever forward away from you. This lever is spring centered to return to neutral when the
leverisreleased.
UNIVERSALFACEPLATECONTROL:
Totilttheuniversalfaceplateandanyconnectedattachmentforwardpushtheuniversalfaceplatecontrol
leverforwardawayfromyou.Tocurltheplateandattachmentpulltheleverbacktowardsyou.Thislever
isspringcenteredtoreturntoneutralwhentheleverisreleased.

AUXILIARYHYDRAULICSCONTROL:
Theauxiliarycontrolleverthatisontherightsideofthemachine(whenfacingforward)istheoneused
tocontrolattachmentswithahydraulicmotor.Thisleverisfrictiondetentedinbothdirectionssoasto
controltheamountofoilthatactuallygoestotheattachment.Onedirectionwillturnthemotorforward
andonewillturnthemotorinreverse.Thisleverisnotspringcenteredsoitisnecessarytomanuallymove
itbacktothecenterdetentpositionwhichwillturnthehydraulicmotorthatitiscontrollingoff.
NOTE: The engine will not start unless this lever is in the center detent
position.
LEAVINGTHEMACHINEUNATTENDED:
Whenever leaving the machine unattended, even if it is only for a few minutes, it is important that the
mainliftingarmsarereturnedtothegroundascloseaspossible,dependingonwhichattachmentisonthe
machine.Turntheignitionkeytothe“OFF”positiontostoptheengine.Besuretoremovethekeyfrom
theignitionswitchandtakeitwithyousothatanyunauthorizedpersonnelcannotstartthemachine.
ATTACHMENTS:
Theuniversalfaceplateisdesignedtoallowquickinterchangewithavarietyofattachments.Theattach-
mentsareheldontothemachinebytwospring-loadedlockingpins.Thesepinssimplyrotate180degrees
tolockandunlockanyattachment.Thefollowingstepsaretheproperwaytoinstallanyattachment.
IMPORTANT: Use only Finn authorized attachments. Other attachments may
changethestabilityandoperatingcharacteristicsoftheunit.The
machine warranty may be voided if unauthorized attachments
areused.
CONNECTINGATTACHMENTS:
1. Insurethatthelockingpinsareintheunlockedposition(pinsfacinginwards).
2. Starttheengine.
3. Slowlytilttheuniversalloadplateforward.
4. Move the machine forward so that the universal faceplate lines up with the adapter plate on the
attachment.
5. Oncetheuniversalfaceplateisinsidetheadapterplateontheattachmentcurltheuniversalfaceplate
allthewaybackandraisetheloaderarmsslightly.Theattachmentshouldrollbackontotheuni-
versalfaceplate.
6. Turntheignitionkeytothe“OFF”positiontostoptheengine.Carefullystepoffplatformtoengage
theattachmentlockpins.
7. Rotatethelockingpinstothelockedposition(pinsfacingoutwards).Makesurethatthelocking
pinsarefullyengagedbyobservingthelockingpinsstickingthroughthebottomoftheadapterplate
ontheattachment.

Iftheattachmentthatisbeingconnectedishydraulicallydrivenproceedwiththefollowingsteps.Ifitis
nottheenginemaybestartedandtheunitoperated.
8. Movetheauxiliarycontrolleversbackandforthtorelieveanypressureintheauxiliaryattachment
lines.
9. Removetheprotectivecoversthatareontheauxiliaryattachmentquickdisconnects.Connectthe
coverstogethertopreventcontamination.
10.Withacleanrag,wipetheendsofthehosesandinsidethequickdisconnectstopreventdirtfrom
enteringthehydraulicsystem.
11.Connectthehosescomingfromtheattachmenttothequickdisconnectsonthemachine.
12.Givethehosesatugtoconfirmthattheyareproperlyconnecttothequickdisconnects.
13.Starttheengineandbeginoperationofthemachine.
DISCONNECTINGATTACHMENTS:
1. Lowertheattachmentontothegroundorontoatrailer.
2. Turntheignition“OFF”tostoptheengine.
3. Movetheauxiliarycontrolleverbackandforthtorelieveanypressureintheauxiliaryattachment
lines.
4. Removetheattachmenthosesfromthemachineandcouplethehosestogethertopreventcontamina-
tiontothehydraulicsduringstorage.

HYDRAULICSYSTEM:
ThehydraulicsystemontheFinnEagle204isdesignedtogivetroublefreeservice,ifproperlymaintained.
The most important areas of maintenance are the hydraulic fluid and filtration. The hydraulic reservoir
holds14.5gallonsofMobilDTE-13Mhydraulicfluid.Thereservoirisfilledbyremovingthefillcapand
addinghydraulicfluiduntilitgoesabovetheaddlineonthedipstickthatispartofthefillcap.Donot
overfillthehydraulicreservoir.Thereservoirwasdesignedwithextraroomtoallowthehydraulicfluidto
expandasthetemperatureofthefluidincreases.Itisimportantnottosubstituteautomotiveoilassevere
hydraulicdamagemayresulttothehydraulicsystem.Thehydraulicfluidshouldbereplacedperthelubri-
cationschedule,iftheoilbecomesmilky,orifitgivesoffaburntodor.Thehydraulicoilfiltermustbe
replacedonschedulewitha10micronfilter–Finnpartnumber#021618.Whenreplacingthehydraulicoil
filterbesuretolubricatetherubbergasketonthereplacementfilter.Thehydraulicsystemreliefisfactory
setat3000psi.
USINGCYLINDERLOCK:
WARNING: Normal maintenance should be done with the lift arms low-
ered. If any maintenance or repairs have to be done that
requirethelift armsto beintheraisedposition,thecylinder
lockmustbeused.

Installingthecylinderlock:
1. Starttheengineandremoveanyattachment,whichmaybeontheunit.
2. Raisetheliftarmtothefullyraisedposition.
3. Turntheignitionkeyofftostoptheengine.
4. Removethecylinderlockandthetwosnapperpinsfromtherightfender.
5. Positionthecylinderlockaroundtheexposedrodoftherighthandsidecylinderandinstallthetwo
snapperpinsthroughtheprovidedholes.
6. Starttheengine.
7. Slowlylowerthearmsuntiltheclevisonthecylindercomesincontactwiththecylinderlock.This
shouldsandwichthecylinderlockbetweenthecylinderclevisandthecylinderbody.
8. Turntheignitionkeyofftostoptheengine.
Removingthecylinderlock:
1. Starttheengine.
2. Raisetheliftarmstothefullyraisedposition.
3. Turntheignitionkeyofftostoptheengine.
4. Removethecylinderlockandtwosnapperpinsfromthecylinderandreplaceontotheholes
providedontherightfender.
5. Starttheengineandlowertheliftarmstotheground.
6. Turntheignitionkeytotheoffpositiontostoptheengine.
CLEANINGANDMAINTENANCE
CAUTION: Cleaningandmaintenanceisdonewiththeengineoffandall
rotatingpartsstopped.
AFTERFIRST4-8HOURSOFOPERATION:
1. Retorquethewheellugnuts(100ft-lbs.(14kg-m)).
DAILY:
1. Remove any loose dirt from the machine. Be sure that the engine fan guard, and the engine oil
coolerfinsarefreefromdirtthatwillcausetheenginetorunexcessivelyhot.
2. LubricatetheSkidSteerperthelubricationchartonpage13.
3. Checktheengineoillevel.Seeenginemanual.
4. Checktheengineairfilter.Seeenginemanual.
5. Checktirepressureandcondition–refertoinflationrecommendationontiresasneeded.
