3M Cavilon™ Durable Barrier Cream Fragrance Free is a pH-balanced skin protectant that helps protect the skin from damage caused by incontinence. It is fragrance-free and hypoallergenic, making it suitable for even the most sensitive skin. The cream is easy to apply and forms a breathable, water-resistant barrier that helps keep the skin dry and comfortable. 3M Cavilon™ Durable Barrier Cream Fragrance Free can be used on all skin types, including those with fragile or compromised skin. It is also safe for use on infants and the elderly.

Step 3

Cleanse and dry skin.

Moisten cloth with skin cleanser.

Step 1

Gather supplies:

r A pH-balanced skin cleanser, such as 3M

r Soft cloth(s)

r Absorbent product (e.g., brief or pad)

r Gloves

Step 2

Remove soiled brief or pad.

Spray skin with cleanser, then wipe skin with moistened cloth

to remove soil. Repeat as needed until skin is clean. Rinsing

is not required for Cavilon No-Rinse Skin Cleanser. For other

skin cleansers, rinse if required per cleanser directions. Dry

skin thoroughly.

Make sure skin is clean and dry before going to Step 4.

Document Care:

Report skin breakdown such as redness, rash, or ulceration. Consider

inﬂuence of friction or pressure if area is over a bony prominence.

Document care per facility protocol.

Step 5

Apply a clean absorbent product.

Apply cream to all skin areas exposed to urine or stool. Gently massage

cream into skin until it disappears.

Reapply every 24 hours* if there are 3 or fewer incontinent episodes

per 24 hours.

Reapply every shift** if there are more than 3 incontinent episodes

per 24 hours.

* Suggested protocol — apply at the ﬁrst incontinent episode during the day shift

** Suggested protocol — apply at the ﬁrst incontinent episode at the beginning of each shift

Step 4

Apply cream to skin.

Squeeze a small amount of Cavilon Durable Barrier Cream into the palm

or on ﬁngertips of a gloved hand. Avoid using too much.
