Turnthereceiveronandcheckthat:
1. TheIndicatingLEDisONandRed.
2. TheLowBatteryLEDisOFF.
Ifeitheroftheseconditionsdoesnotexist,replacethebattery
Plugthetransmitterintoalivesocketandmovethereceiverscanningheadoverthefaceofthe
transmitter.Thefrequencyofthebeepingshouldbecomeveryrapidorchangetoacontinuous
tone.TheIndicatingLEDshouldturnGreenwhenthescanningheadisdetectingasignal
”hotspot”(thisisgoodpracticeforscanningsincetheindicationissimilartofindingthecorrect
circuitbreakeratthe
panel.)

SettingMaximumSensitivity
Beforeperformingascan,settheunitformaximumsensitivity.Tomaximizesensitivity:After
poweringtheunitON,holdtheunitawayfromthecircuitbreakerpanelandthenpressand
releasetheresetbuttononce.
FindingaCircuitBreaker
Thetransmitterinjectsasignalontothecircuitwhichcanbedetectedbythereceiver.The
receiverwillbeepandtheindicatingLEDwillchangefromredtogreenwhenthestrongestsignal
islocated.Thereceiversensitivityautomaticallyadjuststominimizefalseidentifications.
Pleasefollowtheinstructionsbelowverycarefully
withregardtotheorientationangleofthe
sensorheadtothecircuitbreakerarea.Failuretofollowthesedirectionsexactlycouldleadto
inconclusivetestresults;alsonotetheaccompanyingdiagramforadditionalguidance.
1. Plugthetransmitterintothesocketundertestandthe“correct”LEDswillturn
on.
2. GotothecircuitbreakerpanelorfuseboxandswitchONthereceiver.TheIndicatingLED
onthereceiverwilllightredtoindicateautomaticscan.
3. Placethesensingtipincontactwiththe
faceofthecircuitbreakerorfuses.The
sensingtipmustbeflat
againstthecircuit
breakeratalltimesduringthetest.Anytilt
intheangle,inonedirectionoranother,
willaffectthesensor’sabilitytopickup the
signal.
4. Slowlyrunthesensingtipalongtherowof
circuitbreakers.Maintainaconstantangle
tothebreakersas
shown.Thefrequencyof
thebeepingwillincreasetoaveryrapidor
continuoustoneandtheLEDwillturnfrom
redtogreenwhenthereceiverencounters
thebreakerwiththestrongestsignal.
Continuethescanthroughallthebreakers.
5. Repeatthescanoftherowofbreakers.
With
eachsweepthereceiverwill
automaticallyadjustitssensitivityanddisregardweakersignals.
6. Continuescanninguntilthecorrectindication(rapidorcontinuoustoneandgreenLED)is
givenonlywhenthesensingtipisoveronebreakerorfuse.Thisisthebreakerprotecting
thecircuitthatthetransmitter
ispluggedinto.
7. TurntheselectedcircuitbreakeroffandthereceiverwillreverttoaredLEDdisplay.
8. Returntothetestedsocketandconfirmthatthecorrectbreakerhasbeenselectedby
checkingthattheLEDsonthetransmitterarenolongerON(powerisoff).
9.
PressandHoldtheON/OFF/RESETbuttontoturntheReceiverOFF.

Tipsforautomaticscanning
Thereceiverworksbycomparingthestrengthofthesignalreceivedfromonebreakerto
thenext.Observethefollowingforbestresults.
Important:Thefirststrongsignalencounteredmaynotbethestrongestthereis.Donot
stopscanningwhenastrongsignalisfirstencountered.Itisessential
tocontinue
scanninguntilallthebreakersaretestedtoinsurethecorrectbreakerislocated.
Donotletthescanningheadwanderaround.Tooperatewell,theautomaticscanning
memoryneedsaconsistentsignal.
Keeptheredscanningheadatthesameanglerelativetothebreaker
orfusesforthe
durationofthetest.
Keeptheheadincontactwiththebreakerduringeachsweeptoensureconsistencyin
theproximityoftheheadtothebreaker.
Testonlythesamesideofeachbreakerduringatest.Payparticularattentiontothis
whentesting
averticallyhungpanelwhichmayhaveneighboringbreakersmountedin
oppositedirections.
Alwaysresetthereceiver(awayfromthedistributionboard)beforechanginganytest
condition.
AlternateScanningTechniques
Duetothedifferingdesignsofcircuitbreakersitmaysometimesbeunclear
fromtheaboveprocedurewhichoftwobreakersthestrongestsignal
comesfrom,particularlyifitappearstocomefromaboundaryarea
betweentwoadjacentbreakers.Intheeventofthisoccurring,oneofthe
followingvariations
shouldenableclearidentification.
A:Resetthereceiverandscanthebreakersontheoppositesideofthe
switch.Thestrongestsignalmaybefoundatthetopofthebreaker.
B:Resetthereceiverandscanthebreakersata90°angletotheoriginal
scan.Atsomepointastrongersignalwillbefound;scanatthenew
angle.

ReceptacleWiringTest
1. PlugtheTransmitter/Receptacletesterintotheoutlet.
2. ThethreeLED’swillindicatecircuitcondition.Thediagramlistsalloftheconditionsthatthe
CB20candetect.TheLED’sinthisdiagramrepresenttheviewfromtheGFCIbuttonsideof
thetransmitter.WhenviewingtheothersideofthetransmittertheLED’swillbeamirror
imageofthoseshownhere.
3. Thetesterwillnotindicatethequalityofthe groundconnection,2hotwiresinacircuit,a
combinationofdefects,orreversalofgroundandneutralconductors.
ReceptacleGFCITest
1. Beforeusingthetester,presstheTESTbuttonontheinstalledGFCIreceptacle,theGFCI
shouldtrip.Ifitdoesnottrip,donotusethecircuitandcallaqualifiedelectrician.Ifitdoes
trip,presstheRESETbuttononthereceptacle.
2. PlugtheTransmitter/Receptacletester
intotheoutlet.Verifythatthewiringiscorrectas
describedabove.
3. Pressandholdthetestbuttononthetesterforatleast8seconds,theindicatorlightson
thetesterwillshutoffwhentheGFCItrips.
4. Ifthecircuitdoesnottrip,eitherthewiring
isincorrect,orthewiringiscorrectan dtheGFCI
isdefective.

WhentheredlowbatteryLEDonthereceiverturnsonthe9Vbatterymustbereplaced.
Toreplacethebattery:
Pressdownonthebattery coverlatchthenslidethecovertotherearandliftoff.
Replacethe9Vbattery.
Reinstallthebatterycover.
Note:The
transmitterispoweredbytheAClineanddoesnotrequireabattery.
AllEUusersarelegallyboundbytheBattery Ordinancetoreturnallusedbatteries
tocommunitycollectionpointsorwhereverbatteries/accumulatorsaresold!
