IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should
always be followed, including the following:
1. Read all instructions thoroughly before using the appliance.
2. Do not touch hot surfaces or hot water. Use handles or knobs.
Care must be taken as burns can occur from touching hot parts
or from spilled hot liquid.
3. To protect against fire, electric shock and personal injury do not
immerse cord, plugs, power base or electric kettle in water or
other liquid.
4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by
or near children.
5. Electric kettle must be operated on a flat surface away from the
edge of counter to prevent accidental tipping.
6. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or
after the appliance malfunctions or is dropped or damaged in
any manner. Call our toll-free customer service number for
information on examination, repair, or adjustment.
7. Do not use for other than heating water. Other liquids or food
will contaminate the interior and void warranty.
8. Do not use outdoors.
9. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot
surfaces, including the stove.
10. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow
to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning
the appliance.
11. Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during heating cycles.
12. Do not allow kettle to boil dry.
13. To avoid possible steam damage, turn spout away from walls or
cabinets during use; use protective pad under kettle to prevent
damage to wood finishes.
14. To avoid circuit overload, do not operate another high wattage
appliance on the same circuit.
15. Do not place electric kettle on or near a hot gas or electric
burner or in a heated oven.
16. To disconnect electric kettle, turn kettle “off” and remove plug
from wall outlet. Never pull on cord as this may damage the
cord and eventually cause electric shock.
17. WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not
remove the bottom cover. No user serviceable parts are inside.
Repair should be done by authorized service personnel only.
18. Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
19. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by
Hamilton Beach/Proctor-Silex may result in fire, electrical shock
or personal injury.
20. Be sure the lid is securely snapped in place before turning kettle
on and during use. Allow to cool before removing lid. To remove
lid lift straight up.
21. Always use handle when pouring or to carry kettle.
This appliance is intended for household use only.
To avoid an electrical circuit overload, do not operate another high
wattage appliance on the same circuit with the kettle.

5. Cord Wrap (can exit to left

The length of the cord used on this appliance was selected to
reduce the hazards of becoming tangled in, or tripping over a longer

be used. The electrical rating of the extension cord must be equal
to or greater than the rating of the kettle. If the appliance is of the
grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounding-type,
3-wire cord. Care must be taken to arrange the extension cord so
that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be
pulled on by children or accidentally tripped over.

Using Your Electric Kettle (cont.)
1. Remove from power base before filling.
2. Fill the kettle with the desired amount of water. Make sure
the kettle has at least 8 ounces (250
ml) of water. Do not fill above the MAX
fill line. If filled above the MAX fill line,
water will be emitted through the
steam vents at the base of the kettle
during the boil cycle.
3. Press and hold button on bottom of lid while inserting
notches on lid into tabs on kettle wall. The mesh filter must
align with the spout. Make sure that the lid is in place and
the kettle or power base is standing on a level surface.
If lid is not in place, auto shut-off will not operate.
4. After filling the kettle with water, place it on the base so
that it is correctly engaged.
5. Plug into the outlet and turn on (l).
6. The kettle will switch off (O) automatically when the water
has boiled.
7. After use, unplug the kettle and empty.
Anti-Scale Mesh Filter
NOTE: Do not remove the anti-scale mesh filter from the lid.
Scale is caused by lime and calcium in hard water. The mesh
filter will prevent these suspended particles from being poured
out of the kettle. To ensure optimum performance of the filter
it should be periodically cleaned. To clean the filter, rinse it
under running water and brush with a soft brush. An old,
clean toothbrush works well.
If Your Kettle Boils Dry
The heating element is protected by two automatic safety
devices. If your kettle is accidentally switched on without
being filled with water, or is allowed to boil dry, the kettle will
automatically switch off. You should:
• Unplug the kettle and wait about 20 minutes for the
element to cool down.
• Refill the kettle, then use as normal and check that the
kettle functions correctly.
wWARNING
Burn Hazard
• Do not overfill as boiling water can escape spout.
Avoid contact with escaping steam.
• Carefully carry unit holding hot water. Use handle only.
• Do not pour toward or over people.
• Allow to cool before removing lid or cleaning unit.
