with or inhalation of the dust may cause allergic reactions and/or respiratory diseases to the operator or bystanders.
Certain kinds of dust are classified as carcinogenic such as oak and beech dust especially in conjunction with additives
for wood conditioning (chromate, wood preservative). Material containing asbestos must only be treated by specialists.
Where the use of a dust extraction device is possible it shall be used.
To achieve a high level of dust collection, use vacuum cleaner for wood or for wood and/or minerals together with
this tool.
The work place must be well ventilated.

safety warnings
WARNING! Read all safety warnings and
all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and
instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or
serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future
reference.
The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your
mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated
(cordless) power tool.
1. WORK AREA SAFETY
a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or
dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmos-
pheres, such as in the presence of flammable
liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks
which may ignite the dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while op-
erating a power tool. Distractions can cause you
to lose control.
2. ELECTRICAL SAFETY
a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never
modify the plug in any way. Do not use any
adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power
tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will
reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded
surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric
shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet condi-
tions. Water entering a power tool will increase the

d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for
carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool.
Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or
moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords in-
crease the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an
extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of
a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of
electric shock.
f) If operating a power tool in a damp location
is unavoidable, use a residual current device
(RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces
the risk of electric shock.
3. PERSONAL SAFETY
a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use
common sense when operating a power tool.
Do not use a power tool while you are tired or
under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medi-
cation. A moment of inattention while operating
power tools may result in serious personal injury.
b) Use personal protective equipment. Always
wear eye protection. Protective equipment such
as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or
hearing protection used for appropriate conditions
will reduce personal injuries.
c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the
switch is in the off-position before connecting
to power source and/or battery pack, picking
up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with
your finger on the switch or energising power tools
that have the switch on invites accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before
turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left
attached to a rotating part of the power tool may
result in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and bal-
ance at all times. This enables better control of
the power tool in unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or
jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves
away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewel-
lery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g) If devices are provided for the connection of
dust extraction and collection facilities, en-
sure these are connected and properly used.
Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related haz-
ards.
4. POWER TOOL USE AND CARE
a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct
power tool for your application. The correct
power tool will do the job better and safer at the
rate for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does
not turn it on and off. Any power tool that can-
not be controlled with the switch is dangerous and
must be repaired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the power source
and/or the battery pack from the power tool
before making any adjustments, changing ac-
cessories, or storing power tools. Such preven-
tive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the
power tool accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of chil-
dren and do not allow persons unfamiliar with
the power tool or these instructions to operate
the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the
hands of untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment
or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts
and any other condition that may affect the
power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the
power tool repaired before use. Many accidents
are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly
maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges
are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits
etc. in accordance with these instructions, tak-
ing into account the working conditions and
the work to be performed. Use of the power tool
for operations different from those intended could
result in a hazardous situation.
5. SERVICE
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified
repair person using only identical replacement
parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power
tool is maintained.
IV - Additional safety rules
for mitre saws

Always remove the plug from the mains socket
before making any adjustments or maintenance,
including changing the blade.
Never use a cracked or distorted saw blade.
If the table insert is damaged or worn, have it replaced
by an authorised service centre.
Use only blades as recommended by the manufac-
turerandwhichconformtoEN847-1.
Do not use blades of High Speed Steel (HSS blades).
Select saw blades in relation to the material being cut.
Wherever possible use blades that are designed to
reduce emitted noise.
Note the direction of rotation of the motor and the
blade.
When operating the saw, use safety equipment in-
cluding safety goggles or shield, ear defenders, dust
mask and protective clothing including safety gloves.

Do not use the saw to cut metal or masonry.
Do not use this saw to cut firewood.
Avoid cutting nails. Inspect the workpiece and remove
all nails and other foreign objects before beginning
sawing.
Wear gloves when handling saw blades and rough
materials.
Saw blades shall be carried in a holder wherever pos-
sible.
The mitre saw can be safely carried by the carry han-
dle but only once it has been removed from the mains
power and secured in the locked down position.
Do not use the saw unless the guards are in place.
Keep the floor area around the machine level, well
maintained and free of loose materials.
Keep the area free of tripping hazards.
Use correctly sharpened saw blades and observe the
maximum speed marked on the blade.
WARNING:Bladereplacementmustbecar-
riedoutcorrectly,refertothesectiononBladeChang-
ing for details.
Ensure that the operator is adequately trained in the
use, adjustment and operation of the machine.
Do not remove any cut-offs from the cutting area until
the guard is fully locked in place and the blade has
come to rest. The operating head shall be in upper
position.
Rags, cloths, cord and string and the like should never
be left around the work area.
Refrain from removing any cut-offs or other parts of
the workpiece from the cutting area whilst the ma-
chine is running and the saw head is not in the rest
position.
Do not store materials or equipment above a machine
in such a way that they could fall into it.
Never use your hands to remove sawdust, chips or
waste close by the blade while the machine is oper-
ating.
Ensure that the machine is always fixed to a bench,
whenever possible.
Support the work properly prior to operation.
When cutting round wood, use clamps that prevent
the workpiece from turning on both sides of the blade.
When cutting long pieces which extend well over
the table width, ensure that the ends are adequately
supported at the same height as the saw table top.
Supports should be positioned in such as a way to
ensure that the workpiece does not fall to the ground
once the cut has been made. A number of supports
at regular intervals may be required if the workpiece
is extremely long.
Take additional care when trenching (slotting).
Ensure that the arm is properly secure when bevel-
ling.
Always stand to one side when operating the saw.
If you are interrupted when operating the saw, com-
plete the process and switch off before looking up.
Periodically check that all nuts, bolts and other fixings
are properly tightened.
Do not attempt to free a jammed blade before first
switching off the machine.
Do not slow or stop a blade with a piece of wood. Let
the blade come to rest naturally.
Do not lock the movable guard in the open position
and always ensure that it is working properly, freely
rotating and returning to fully cover the teeth of the
blade.

When an extension cable is required, you must en-
sure that it has the right ampere rating for your power
tool and it is in safe electrical condition.
Always hold the saw on parts that are insulated. If you
accidentally cut into hidden wiring or the saw’s own
cable, the metal parts of the saw will become “live”.
Switch off at the mains and remove the plug imme-
diately.
Connect the saw to a dust collection device and en-
sure that it is operated properly. As the operator of the
saw, please make sure that you understand factors
that influence exposure to dust, including the type of
material to be machined, the importance of local ex-
traction and the proper adjustment of hoods/baffles/
shoots of your dust extraction system. We recom-
mend that you always wear a dust mask when operat-
ing this saw.
Report faults in the machine, including guards and
saw blades, as soon as they are discovered.
To use this tool properly, you must observe the safety
regulations, the assembly instructions and the oper-
ating instructions to be found in this Manual. All per-
sons who use and service the machine have to be
acquainted with this Manual and must be informed
about its potential hazards. Children and frail people
must not use this tool. Children should be supervised
at all times if they are in the area in which the tool is
being used. It is also imperative that you observe the
accident prevention regulations in force in your area.
The same applies for general rules of occupational
health and safety.
The manufacturer shall not be liable for any changes
made to the tool nor for any damage resulting from
such changes.
Power tools must not be used outdoors in rainy weath-
er, or in moist environment (after rain) or in close vicin-
ity with easily flammable liquids and gases. The work-
ing place should be well lit.

The laser light/laser radiation used in the REDEYE®

nm wavelength. These lasers do not normally present an
optical hazard, although staring at the beam may cause
ashblindness.
WARNING: Do not stare directly at the laser
beam. A hazard may exist if you deliberately stare into the
beam, please observe all safety rules as follows:

Never aim the beam at any person or an object other
than the workpiece.
The laser beam shall not be deliberately aimed at
personnel and shall be prevented from being directed
towardstheeyeofapersonforlongerthan0.25s.
Always ensure the laser beam is aimed at a sturdy
workpiece without reflective surfaces. I.e. wood or
rough coated surfacesareacceptable.Bright shiny
reflective sheet steel or the like is not suitable for laser
use as the reflective surface could direct the beam
back at the operator.
Do not change the laser light assembly with a different
type. Repairs must be carried out by the laser manu-
facturer or an authorised agent.

phase alternating current mains. It is double insulated
accordingtoEN61029andIЕС61029andcanbecon-
nected to grounded or not grounded sockets. This power
tool is radio suppressed in compliance with EMC Direc-
tive2004/108/EC.

Beforestartingtooperatethesaw,alwayscheckthefol-
lowing:
Make sure power supply voltage corresponds to the
value, indicated on the name plate with technical data
of the tool;
Always check the position of ON/OFF switch. The
power tool must be connected to the power supply
socketonlywhenthisswitchisinOFFposition;
Always inspect the blade. Use only well ground
blades. Never use blades with cracks and indents or
HSS-blades.
Make sure that all moving parts of the blade guard
move freely.
Make sure the work piece or the material is well se-
cured.
Make sure that the cord and the plug are in order. If the
replacement of the supply cord is necessary, this has
to be done by the manufacturer or his agent in order
to avoid a safety hazard.
ACCESSORIES
The tool is supplied with the following accessories: hex
key, 6 mm (Fig. 1a); blade (tted) (Fig. 1b); dust bag
(Fig. 1c);2xsideextensionarms(Fig. 1d); workpiece
clamp (Fig. 1e);1xstabiliser(tted)(Fig. 1f).
To achieve best results we recommend using genuine
SPARKY accessories.
TRANSPORTATION
Lift the mitre saw only when the saw arm is locked in the
down position, the saw is switched off and the plug is
removed from the power point.
Youmustonlyliftthesawbythecarryinghandle(8)or
outer castings. Do not lift the saw using the guard or op-
eratinghandle(7).(Fig. 2)
BENCH MOUNTING
The saw base has holes to facilitate bench mounting.
Attach the saw to a level, horizontal bench or work table
usingbolts(notsupplied)thoughthexingholesinthe
saw base. (Fig. 3)
NOTE: If desired, you can mount the saw to a piece of
13 mm or thicker plywood which can then be clamped
to your work support or moved to other job sites and re-
clamped.
WARNING: Make sure that the mounting sur-
face is not warped as an uneven surface can cause
binding and inaccurate sawing.

Theside extension arms (38) are used for supporting
wide workpieces to prevent them from bowing and sub-
sequent pinching on the blade during cutting.

WARNING: When the saw is not fixed to a
bench, always fit the stabiliser (20) intotheholes at
the rear of the base of the saw. The stabiliser helps
prevent the saw tipping backwards when the slide ac-
tion is used

Make sure that the electrical plug is removed from the

Push the saw arm (5) down to its lowest position and
engage the release knob (6) to hold the saw arm in the

Rotate the blade by hand and check the blade-to-table
alignment at several points.
The edge of the set square and the saw blade should
be parallel.
If the saw blade angles away from the set square, adjust
as follows:
Use a wrench (not supplied) to loosen the lock nut se-
curing the 0° bevel adjustment screw (36).
Loosen the bevel lock (16).
Adjust the 0° bevel adjustment screw (36) with hex
key(21)tobringthesawbladeintoalignmentwiththe
square.
Loosen the screws holding the pointer of the bevel
scale(18)andadjustthepositionofthepointersothat
it accurately indicates zero on the scale. Retighten the
screws.
Retighten the bevel lock (16) and the lock nut secur-
ing the 0° bevel adjustment screw (36). (Fig. 13a, 13b,

NOTE: The above procedure can also be used to check
theangleofthesawbladetothetableateither45ºbevel
angle to the left or to the right. The 45° bevel adjustment
screws (34 and 35) are on opposite sides of the saw
arm. You need a suitable sized wrench (not supplied) for

SETTING THE FENCE SQUARE WITH THE TABLE
Usinghexkey(21),loosenthesetscrewsecuringthetop
piece of the right hand fence and remove this top section.
Usinghexkey(21),loosenthefourscrewssecuringthe
fence (19) to the base. (Fig. 15a, 15b, 15c)
Place a square against the fence (19) and alongside the
blade.
Adjust the fence (19) until it is square with the blade.
Tighten the screws securing the fence (19).

Replace the top section of the right hand fence.
Loosen the screw holding the pointer of the mi-
tre scale (23) and adjust it so that it accurately
indicates the zero position on the mitre scale.

Retighten the screw securing the mitre scale pointer.
ADJUSTING THE LASER LINES
The lower laser is factory set to emit a laser line along the
right-hand side of the blade. The upper laser is factory
set to emit a laser line to the left-hand side of the blade.
This upper laser can be adjusted by the operator to suit
blades of different kerf widths.
To adjust the position of the upper laser, proceed as fol-
lows:
Remove the laser cover (3) and switch on the laser lights
withtheon/offswitch(2).(Fig. 18)
Using a cross head screwdriver (not supplied), adjust the
position of the line from the upper laser by turning the
laser pitch control (4). (Fig. 19)
Adjust until the left-hand laser line is aligned with the left-
hand side of the blade.
Switch off the laser lights and replace the laser cover (3).
TRENCH DEPTH ADJUSTMENT
Initsnormalposition,thetrenchingstop(32)permitsthe
saw blade to cut right through a workpiece. When the
saw arm is lifted, the trenching stop can be adjusted so
that the trenching depth adjustment screw (31) contacts
the stop as the saw arm is lowered. (Fig. 20)
This restricts the cut to a “trench” in the workpiece. The
depth of the trench can be adjusted with the trenching
depth adjustment screw (31) and locked in position with
the trenching depth lock nut (33). (Fig. 21)
USING THE LASER LINE GENERATOR
WARNINGS:
Do not stare directly at the laser beam.
Never aim the beam at any person or an object other
than the workpiece.
Do not deliberately aim the beam at personnel and en-
sure that it is not directed towards the eye of a person for
longerthan0.25s.
Always ensure the laser beam is aimed at a sturdy work-
piecewithoutreectivesurfaces.

CROSS-CUTTING (WITHOUT SLIDE ACTION)
When cutting a narrow piece of wood it is not necessary
to use the slide mechanism. In these cases ensure that
the slide lock (30) is screwed down to prevent the saw
arm from sliding. (Fig. 28)
A crosscut is made by cutting across the grain of the
workpiece.A90ºcrosscutismadewiththemitretable
setat0º.Mitrecrosscutsaremadewiththetablesetat
some angle other than zero.
Pull on the release knob (6) and lift the saw arm (5) to its
full height. (Fig. 29)
Loosenthemitrelock(26).
Rotatethemitretable(22)untilthepointeralignswiththe
desired angle.

WARNING:Besuretotightenthemitrelock
before making a cut.Failure to do socouldresult in
the table moving during the cut and cause serious per-
sonal injury.
Place the workpiece at on the table with one edge
securely against the fence (19). If the board is warped,
place the convex side against the fence (19). If the con-
cave side is placed against the fence, the board could
break and jam the blade.
When cutting long pieces of timber, support the over-
hanging ends of the timber with the side extension arms
(38),arollerstandoraworksurfacethatislevelwiththe
saw table. (Fig. 31)
Use the clamp assembly (10) to secure the workpiece
wherever possible.
It is possible to remove the clamp assembly (10) by loos-
ening the clamp assembly lock (11) and moving it to the
other side of the table. Make sure the clamp assembly
lock is tight before using the clamp. (Fig. 32)
Beforeturningonthesaw,performadryrunofthecut-
ting operation to check that there are no problems.
Hold the operating handle (7) rmly and squeeze the
switch trigger(25). Allow the bladeto reach maximum
speed.
Pressthereleaselatch(37)andslowlylowertheblade
into and through the workpiece.
Releasetheswitchtrigger(25)andallowthesawblade
to stop rotating before raising the blade out of the work-
piece. Wait until the blade stops before removing the
workpiece. (Fig. 33)
CROSS-CUTTING (WITH SLIDE ACTION)
When cutting wide workpieces, rst unscrew the slide
lock (30). (Fig. 34)
Pull on the release knob (6), raise the saw arm (5) to its
highest position and slide it towards you.
Hold the handlermly andsqueeze the switch trigger
(25).Allowthebladetoreachmaximumspeed.
Pressthereleaselatch(37)andslowlylowertheblade
into the workpiece and slide it away from you at the same
time until the workpiece is cut.
Releasetheswitchtrigger(25)andallowthesawblade
to stop rotating before raising the blade out of the work-
piece.
Wait until the blade stops before removing the work-
piece. (Fig. 35)
BEVEL CUT
A bevel cut is made by cutting across the grain of the
workpiece with the blade angled to the fence and mitre
table. The mitre table is set at the zero degree position
andthebladesetatananglebetween0ºand45ºtothe
left or right.
Loosen the bevel lock (16) and for bevel angles greater
than30ºtotheleftoranyangletotherightpulloutthe0º
beveladjuster(17).
Move the saw arm (5) to the left or right to the desired
bevelangle(between0ºand45º).
Tighten the bevel lock (16).
Use the slide action when cutting wide workpieces. (Fig.

To return the blade to the vertical (0º bevel) position,
move thesawarm to theleftandpush inthe0º bevel
adjuster(17).
Return the blade to the vertical position. It will automati-
callystopatthe0ºbevelposition.

COMPOUND MITRE CUT
A compound mitre cut involves using a mitre angle and
a bevel angle at the same time. It is used in making pic-

ture frames, to cut mouldings, making boxes with slop-
ing sides and for roof framing. Always make a test cut
on a piece of scrap wood before cutting into the good
material.
Use the slide action when cutting wide workpieces. (Fig.

To achieve the maximum incline degree on the right side,
removethefence(19)rst.
VIII - Maintenance
CHANGING A BLADE
DANGER! Never try to use a blade larger than the stated
capacity of the saw. It might come into contact with the
blade guards.
Never use a blade that is too thick to allow the outer
bladewashertoengagewiththeatsonthespindle.It
will prevent the blade screw from properly securing the
blade on the spindle.
Do not use the saw to cut metal or masonry.
Ensure that any spacers and spindle rings that may be
requiredsuitthespindleandthebladetted.(Fig. 39)
Pushdownontheoperatinghandle(7)andpullthere-
lease knob (6) to disengage the saw arm (5). The release
knob (6) can be turned so that it is held in the retracted
position.
Raise the saw arm (5) to its highest position. (Fig. 40)
Using a Phillips head screwdriver (not supplied) loosen
and remove the Phillips head screw that secures the
guard retraction arm (13) to the rotating blade guard.

Remove the screw that secures the blade bolt cover (14).

always install the blade with the arrow printed on the

Replace the outer blade washer.
Depress the spindle lock button (27) and replace the

Usehexkey(21)totightenthebladeboltsecurely(anti-
clockwise).
Holdtherotatinglowerbladeguard(12)andbladebolt
cover(14)inpositionandtightenthexingscrews,also
secure the guard retraction arm (13) to the rotating blade
guard.
Check that the blade guard operates correctly and cov-
ers the blade as the saw arm is lowered.
Connect the saw to the power supply and run the blade
to make certain that it is operating correctly. (Fig. 48a,
48b)
MAINTENANCE
WARNING: Always ensure that the tool is
switched off and the plug is removed from the power
point before making any adjustments or maintenance
procedures.
Always wear sturdy gloves when handling or changing
blades as they can be very sharp.
Keep the tool’s air vents unclogged and clean at all times.
Regularly check to see if any dust or foreign matter has
entered the grills near the motor and around the trigger
switch. Use a soft brush to remove any accumulated
dust. Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes whilst
cleaning.
Re-lubricate all moving parts at regular intervals.
If the body of the saw needs cleaning, wipe it with a soft
damp cloth. A mild detergent can be used but nothing like
alcohol, petrol or other cleaning agent. (Fig. 49)
Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts.
WARNING: Water must never come into con-
tact with the saw.
GENERAL INSPECTION
Regularlycheckthatallthexingscrewsaretight.They
may vibrate loose over time. (Fig. 50)
If the replacement of the supply cord is necessary, this
has to be done by the manufacturer or his agent in order
to avoid a safety hazard.

The guarantee period for SPARKY power tools is deter-
mined in the guarantee card.
Faultsduetonormalwear,overloadingorimproperhan-
dling will be excluded from the guarantee.
Faultsduetodefectivematerialsimplementedaswellas
defects in workmanship will be corrected free of charge
through replacement or repair.
The complaints for defective SPARKY power tools will
be recognized if the machine is sent back to the dealer
or is presented to the authorised warranty service centre
undismantled, in its initial condition.
