Overview
General Information on
Anti-Theft Alarm
The anti-theft alarm consists
of an immobilizer and an alarm
function with a motion sensor.
The immobilizer prevents the
unauthorized starting of the en-
gine, the alarm function triggers
an alarm on any attempt to move
the motorcycle, to change its po-
sition or to disconnect the motor-
cycle battery.
The sensitivity of the system is
designed so that slight jolts to
the motorcycle do not trigger an
alarm.
You can adjust the behavior
of the anti-theft alarm to your
wishes in partial areas.
Protecting battery
To protect the motorcycle bat-
tery and to maintain starting abil-
ity, the activated anti-theft alarm
automatically switches off the
alarm function after several days.
However, it remains active for at
least seven days. The immobi-
lizer is not deactivated.
Radio interference
Radio systems or devices which
transmit on the same frequency
as the remote control of the anti-
theft alarm can interfere with its
operation. In case of problems of
this kind, point the remote con-
trol at the motorcycle from a dif-
ferent direction.
Splash-water protection
The remote control is splash-wa-
ter protected, however it is not
waterproof. To ensure its proper
operation, BMW Motorrad rec-
ommends protecting the remote
control against heavy rainfall.

Code card
The anti-theft alarm is delivered
with a sealed envelope which
contains the code card 1. This
code card contains the secret
code (remove sticker) for deac-
tivating the anti-theft alarm with
the ignition.
The secret code is stamped onto
the anti-theft alarm in encrypted
form and is also contained in the
delivery scope as a sticker 2.
You should apply the sticker at
a concealed location on the mo-
torcycle.
Should you forget the secret
code and loose the code card,
then your authorized BMW
Motorrad retailer can ask BMW
for your secret code using the
numeric code.

Operation
Activation
Activation without remote
control
Switch off ignition.
Activation by switching
off the ignition must be
programmed. The following
can be programmed:
Automatic activation of immo-
bilizer without alarm function
(factory setting).
Automatic activation of immobi-
lizer with alarm function.
Programming anti-theft alarm
( 14).
50 seconds are required to ac-
tivate the programmed func-
tions. The indicator LED does
not light up during this time.
Another 15 seconds are re-
quired for the activation; this is
indicated by rapid flashing of
the indicator LED (0.1 sec. on,
0.5 sec. off). The LED does
not flash if only the immobilizer
is activated.
After completing the activa-
tion, the turn indicators light
up twice and the acknowledg-
ment tone sounds twice (if pro-
grammed).
The anti-theft alarm is now ac-
tive; this is indicated by slow
flashing of the indicator LED
(0.1 sec. on, 0.9 sec. off). The
LED does not flash if only the
immobilizer is activated.
Activation with remote
control
Switch off ignition.
Press button 1 of remote con-

off).
After completing the activa-
tion, the turn indicators light

ment tone sounds twice (if pro-
grammed).
The anti-theft alarm is now ac-
tive; this is indicated by slow
flashing of the indicator LED
(0.1 sec. on, 0.9 sec. off).
Drained battery
If the alarm tone sounds four
times following activation, then
the internal anti-theft alarm bat-
tery is discharged. No alarm can
be triggered when the anti-theft

alarm is disconnected from the
motorcycle battery.
To charge the anti-theft alarm
internally:
Drive for a longer time, or
Leave ignition switched on for
a longer time and connect a
trickle-charger to motorcycle
battery
Motion sensor when
transporting motorcycle
If, for example, the motorcycle
is to be transported by train, it is
advisable to switch off the motion
sensor. The strong movements
could result in the alarm acciden-
tally being triggered.
Deactivating motion
sensor
Press button 1 of remote con-
trol again during activation
phase.
Turn indicators light up three
times.
Acknowledgment tone sounds
three times.
Motion sensor is deactivated.

Triggering alarm
The alarm can be triggered by
the motion sensor
switching on the ignition with-
out deactivating the anti-theft
alarm beforehand
disconnecting the anti-theft
alarm from the vehicle bat-
tery (anti-theft alarm battery
assumes the power supply -
alarm tone only, no lighting up
of the turn signals)
If the internal anti-theft alarm bat-
tery is discharged, all functions
are maintained; only the alarm
triggering when the motorcy-
cle battery is disconnected is no
longer possible.
If only the immobilizer is active,
then no alarm will be triggered
after switching on the ignition
without prior deactivation of the

anti-theft alarm.
Pressing the button 2 again de-
activates the DWA.
During the alarm, an alarm tone
sounds and the turn indicators
flash. The type of alarm tone can
be programmed.

triggered

been deactivated, the anti-theft
alarm indicator LED signals the
reason for a possible triggering of
the alarm for one minute:
1x flashing: motion sensor
2x flashing: ignition switched
on with anti-theft alarm armed
3x flashing: disconnection of
anti-theft alarm from vehicle
battery
This display goes out after a
minute, or when the ignition is
switched on. If several alarms
have been triggered, all causes
are shown. To request the rea-
