from work area while operating this tool.

• Air tool operators and all others in work area should

always wear safety goggles complying with United States

ANSI Z87.1 to prevent eye injury from fasteners and flying

debris when loading, operating and unloading this tool

Everyday eyeglasses have only impact resistant lenses.

These are NOT safety glasses. ANSI Z87.1 safety glasses

have permanently attached rigid, hard plastic side shields

and will have "Z87.1" printed or stamped on them.

• Always wear ear protection. The work area may include

exposure to excessive noise levels which will require nec-

essary ear protection. Some environments will require

head protection; use head protection conformingto ANSI

Z89.1.

Do not alter or modify this tool in any way.Do not use this

tool for any application other than for which it was

designed.

Do not use oxygen, carbon dioxide, high-pressure com-

pressed gas or bottled gases as the power source for this

tool. The tool will explode and serious personal injury

could result.

• Never connect the tool to air pressure which could poten-

tially exceed 200 psi. Use only clean, dry, regulated air

within rated range as marked on tool.

• The tool must have a male, free-flow hose coupling so that

all air pressure is removed from the tool when the coupling

joint isdisconnected. Failure to use proper coupling could

cause accidental discharge, possibly causing injury.

• Only use air hose that is rated for a maximum working

pressure of 150 psi or 150% of the maximum system pres-

sure, whichever is greater.

Do not use a hose swivel connector with this tool.

Do not pull trigger or depress contact trip while connecting

to the air supply,as the tool may cycle, possiblycausing

injury.

• When loading tool: Do not pull trigger or depress contact

trip; Do not point the tool at yourself or others; Do not

prace hand or any part of body in the fastener discharge

area ofthe tool as accidental actuation may occur and

cause injury.

Disconnect tool from air supply before loading or unload-

ing, performing tool maintenance, clearing a jammed fas-

tener, leaving work area, moving tool to another location or

handing the tool to another person.

• Use Sears recommended fasteners only.

• Do not load the tool until you are ready to use it.

• Always assume that the tool contains fasteners. Keep the

tool pointed away from yourself and others at all times.

Never engage in horseplay. Never pull the trigger unless

the contact trip is in contact with the workpiece. Keep oth-

ers at a safe distance from the tool while the tool is in

operation,

• Always remove finger from trigger when not drivingfasten-

ers. Never carry the tool with finger on or under the trigger

as accidental actuation may occur and cause injury.

• Always keep hands and body away from the fastener dis-

charge area when air supply is connected to the tool. Grip

tool firmly to maintain control while allowingtool to recoil

away from work surface as fastener is driven. If contact trip

is allowed to recontact work surface before trigger is

released, an unwanted fastener may be driven.

• Check operation of the contact trip frequently. Never use

the tool if the contact trip, trigger or springs have become

inoperable, missing or damaged. Do not alter or remove

contact trip, trigger or springs. Never use a tool that is leak-

ing air, has missing or damaged parts, or requires repair.

• Do not drive fasteners on top of other fasteners or with the

tool at too steep an angle. The fasteners can ricochet and

cause injury. Do not drive fasteners close to the edge of

the workpiece. The workpiece is likely to split, allowing the

fastener to fly free and cause injury. Do not attempt to

drive fasteners into hard or brittle materials such as con-

crete, steel or tile.

• Do not overreach. Always place yourself in a firmly bal-

anced position when using or handling the tool. Do not

attach the hose or tool to your body.

• Do notoperate tool without fasteners or damage to tool

may result.

• Do not use tool without safety warning label. If label is

missing, damaged or unreadable, contact SEARS to

obtain a new label.

• Only qualified repair personnel must perform tool service.

• When servicing a tool, use only identical repair parts.

• Store tool out of reach of children and other untrained

persons.

DESCRIPTION

The Craftsman Full Head Framing Nailer drivesnailsfrom

.113" to .131" diameter and from 2" to 3'h"long. Magazine is

angled at 21° for nailingin tightspotssuch as when toenailing.

Highstrength magnesium body and aluminumcomponentsare

lightweight and durable. Safety feature disablestool unless con-

tact trip is pressedagainst workpiece. Sequential trigger switch

allowsselectionof rapid-tireor single-firemode.Contact trip

can be adjusted for setting nail depth. Pusher mechanism sup-

ports shorterfasteners topreventjamming. Plasticprotectoron

the end of contacttrip prevents marring of workpiece. Large

capacity,end loadingmagazine makes it easy to load upto 70

• The air tool operates on compressed air at pressures from

70 to 110 PSI.

• Never connect the tool to air pressure which could poten-

tially exceed 200 PSI. Use only clean, dry, regulated air

within rated range as marked on tool,

(30 shots per minute).

WARNING: Keep hands and body away from discharge area

oftool when connecting air supply.Always disconnect tool

from air supply when servicing or adjusting tool and when tool

is not in use.

• Air operated tools require clean, dry, lubricated com-

pressed air to ensure top performance, low maintenance

and long life.

• Dirt and abrasive materials present in all air lines willdam-

age tool O-rings, valves and cylinders.

• Moisture will reduce tool performance and life if not

removed from compressed air.

A filter-regulator-lubricator system is required and shouldbe

located as close to tool as possible.A distance of less than

15 feet is recommended. Lubricator is notrequired for

oilless tools.

• Keep air filter clean. A dirty filter will reduce the air pressure

tothe toolcausing a reduction in powerand efficiency.

• The air supply system must be able to provideair pressure

of 70 to 110 pounds per square inch at tool.

• All hoses and pipes in the air supply system must be clean

and free of moisture and foreign particles. Hoses must be

rated for a maximum working pressure of 150 PSI or 150%

of maximum system pressure, whichever is greater.

• Do not mount swivel connector in air supplyline.

• The air pressure should be properly regulated.

• Different workpiece materials and different fastener lengths

will require different operating pressure.

• Be sure all connections in air supply system are sealed to

prevent air loss.

• Never connect a female quick-disconnect couplingto the

tool side of air line connection.A male, free-flow coupling

should be connected to the tool side of air line connection

(see Figure 1).

WARNING: The female coupling provides a seal preventing

loss of compressed air from compressor tank when discon-

nected from male coupling. If connected to toolside of air

supply,the female coupling could seal a compressed air

charge in the toolwhich could discharge if the tool trigger is

actuated.

WARNING: Disconnect toolfrom air supply.Do not load tool

untilyou are ready to use it. Do not pull trigger or depress

contact tripwhile loading tool.Always load with nose of tool

pointingaway from you and others.Always wear safety gog-

gles that comply with United States ANSI Z87.1.

NOTE: For best results, use Sears fasteners only.

• Insert one or two nail stripsintothe slot located onthe end

ofthe magazine. Feed strig(s) past nail stop (see Figure 2).

• Grasp pusher housing, depress latch and pull the pusher

housing back until the pusher is completely behind the nail

strip.Then release the latch ar,,dhousing. The housingwill

travel forward and the pusher wW apply pressure to the

nail strip, pushing it into the driving mechanism (see

Figure 4).

NAILING OPERATION

Refer to Figures 5-11 (pages 4, 5 and 6).

WARNING: Read and follow all safety rules and operating

instructionsin this manual and on warning label oftool before

using this tool. Keep this manual with the tool.

WARNING; Do not use this toolwithout safety warning

label, If label is missing, damaged or unreadable, contact

Sears to obtain a new label.

WARNING; Never operate tool unless contact trip is in con-

tact with wotkpiece. Do not operate tool without fasteners or

damage to tool may result. Never fire fasteners into the air

because fasteners may injure operator or others and damage

to tool may result.

• Perform =Safety Mechanism Check" as described in the

Maintenance section (see page 6) prior to first use of tool

and on a daily basis thereafter.

• The tool is equipped with a rotating switch that can be set

to rapid-fire or sir_Le-fira mode (see Figure 5). When the

switch is set to single-fire mode, the tool will not drive a

second fastener until the trigger is fully released and

pulled again.

• When the switch is rotated to rapid-fire mode, the tool can

drive fasteners continuously. A fastener will be fired each

time the contact trip is pressed against the workpiece, as

long as the trigger is maintained in the pulled position.

Operation Mode

SINGLE-FIRE OPERATION:

• The air tool is equipped with a contact trip safety mecha-

nismthat disables tool unless contact trip is pushed

against work.To drive e fastener hold body firmly and

press contact trip on workpiece where fastener is to be

applied. Pull trigger to drive fastener intoworkpiece. Tofire

a second fastener liftthe tool from the workplace, release

the trigger and then repeat the above sequence.

RAPID-FIRE OPERATION:

• The tool can also be operated by holding trigger

depressed and pushing contact trip against workpiece. A

fastener will be driven each time the contact trip is pushed

against the workplace. This operating procedure provides

rapid-firefastener driving. Never operate tool unless con-

tact trip is in contact with workpiece.

WARNING: All air power fastening tools recoil when operat-

ed. This recoil iscaused by rapid drivingof the fastener. Tool

may bounce from recoil causing a second unwanted fastener

to be driven. Reduce tool bounce by holdingtool firmly in

hand and pressing tool gently against workpiece. Let the tool

do the work, This willallow recoil of tool to bounce tool away

from workpiece preventing the driving of second fastener.

CONTACT TRIP ADJUSTMENT

The contact trip may be adjusted up or down to vary the

depth of the fastener in the workpiece. To adjust, rotate depth

control knob (see Figure 6) to raise or lower contracttrip to

desired setting.

CONTACT TRIP PAD AND BELT HOOK

The tool isequipped with a contact trip pad (see Figure 7)

that prevents marring of finished surfaces by the contact trip

during normal operation. A belt hook is suppliedfor conve-

nient transportation of tool.

CONTACT TRIP PAD STORAGE

Pad can be removed and stored on the storage sleeve locat-

ed on the pad bracket of the body. Hex wrench is stored on

the magazine (see Figure 8).

CLEARING A JAMMED FASTENER

WARNING: Disconnect toolfrom air supplybefore attempt.

• Pull pusher housing back untilpusher is clear of nails.

Then depress latch and allow housingto slide tothe front

of the magazine (see Figure 9).

• Slide nail strip back and remove from magazine.

WARNING: Fasteners are under spring pressure and may

shoot outof magazine.

• Press up on latch and open door (see Figure 10).

• Use long nose pliers to remove the jammed fastener.

Close door and insert nail strip.

COLD WEATHER OPERATION

CAUTION: Do not store in cold environment. Frostor ice

could form inside tool affecting operation and damaging tool.

Use a cold temperature lubricant, such as ethylene glycol,

when operatingtool in freezing temperatures.

EXHAUST DEFLECTOR

• Exhaust deflector can be positionedto point in any direc-

tion (full 360 =movement). Reposition deflector by grasping

firmly and rotatingto the desired position (see Figure 11.)

OPERATING PRESSURE

• Use only enough air pressure to perform the operation. Air

pressure in excess of that which is requiredwill make the

operation inefficientand may cause premature wear or

damage to the tool.

• Determine minimum air pressure required by drivingsome

test fasteners intothe workpiece. Set air pressure so that

test fasteners are driven down flush with the work surface.

Fasteners driven too deep may damage workpiece.

Refer to Figure 12 (page 8).

LUBRICATION

Lubricate tool daily with quality air tool oiJ.If no air line lubri-

cator is used, place five or six drops of oil into air inletcap

(Figure 12, Key No. 24).

MAGAZINE AND PISTON-RAM

• Keep magazine and nose oftool clean and free of any dirt,

lintor abrasive particles.

The tip of the ram (Fig. 12, No. 16) can become dented or

rounded over time.

• Square off the tip of the ram with a clean, fine hand file to

extend the life of the ram and tool. Fastener firing wiU be

more consistent if the ram tip is kept clean and square.

SAFETY MECHANISM CHECK

Inspect contacttrip safety mechanism daily for proper opera-

tion. Do not operate tool if mechanism is not operating

properly.

With the red push-button switchin the rapid-firemode, per-

form the following procedures to test safety mechanism:

• Leave trigger untouchedwhile pushing contact trip into

workpiece. Tool must not fire.

• Pull trigger while contact trip isclear of work and pointed

away fromoperator and others.Tool must not fire.

• Depress and hold trigger.Push contacttrip against work

where fastener is needed. The toolshould drive onlyone

fastener each time the contact trip is pushed against

workpiece.

If contact trip mechanism does not operate properly,

repair tool Immediately through Sears Service Center.

Replace any damaged or missing parts. Use the parts list to

order parts.

REBUILD KITS

Rebuild kits are available as spare parts, (see page 9). Tools

should be rebuiltif toolfails to operate properly after extended

use. See troubleshootingto determine required replacement

parts.

Disconnect tool from air supply before attempting repair

or adjustment.

NOTE; When replacing O-rings or cylinder, lubricatewith

grease before assembly.

No oprima elgatilloni presione el disparo por contactomien-

tras conecta el abastecimiento de aire, ya que la herramienta

cicla y podrfa ocasionar lesiones.

Cuando cargue la herramienta: No optima el gatillo ni presione

el disparo pot contacto; No apuntela herramienta hacia usted

mismo o hacia otras personas; NOcoloque las manos ni

ninguna parte de su cuerpo en el drea de descarga de sujeta-

dores ya que podrfa producirse una activaci6n accidental y

ocasionar lesiones.

Oesconectelaherramienta del abastecimientode aire antes

de cargar o descargar, realizar el mantenimiento de la herra-

mienta, desatascar un sujetador,abandonar el drea de trabajo,

mienta a otra persona.

la herramienta. Nunca optima elgatillo a menos qae el disparo

por contacto haya entrado en contacto con la pieza de trabajo.

Mantengaa toda persona a una distancia prudente de la

herramienta mientras se encuentra en funcionamiento.

• Aleje siemprelosdedosdel gatillocuandono impulse sujeta-

dores. Nunca transporte la herramienta con el dedo en el ga-

tillo o debejo de 6ste ya que puede ocurrir una activacibn

accidental y ocasionar lesiones.

• Mantenga siempre las manos y el cuerpo alejados del drea de

descarga de sujetadores cuando se conecte un abastecimien-

to de aire ala herramienta. Agarre la herramienta firmemente

pare mantener el control ala vez que le permite rebotarlejos

de la euperficie de trabajo cuando se impulsan los sujetadores.

Si se permite que el disparo pot contacto vuelva a hacer con°

tacto con la euperficie de trabajo antesde soltarse el gatillo,

podrfaproducirse el impulso no deseado de un sujetador.

• Verifique con frecuencia el funcionamiento del dispero por con-

tacto. Nunca utilice la herramienta si el disparo por contacto, el

getillo o los resortes no funcionan, faltan o est_n dai_ados.No

altereni extraiga el disparo pot contacto,el gatillo o los resortes.

Nunca utilice una herramienta que tenge una fuga de aire,

partos datledaso que falten, o que neeesite ser reparada.

No impulse sujetadores sobre otros sujetadoras o con la he-

OPERACION DE DISPARO UN|CO:

podrlarebotardebido al retrocesoy ocasionarel impulsono de-

seado de un segundosujetador.Reduzca el rebotede la herra-

mientesujetando_ste firmemente con la mano y presiondndola

suavementecontrala pieza de trabajo.Deje que la herramienta

AJUSTE DEL DISPARO POR CONTACTO

El disparo por contactopuedeajustarsehacia arribao hacia

abejo pare variar la profundidad del sujetadoren la pieza de tra-

bajo. Pare ajusterlo,gire la perilla de controlde profundidad

(v_ase la Figure 6) a modo de elever o descender el disparo de

contactoal ajustedeseado.

ALMACENAMIENTO DEL SOPORTE DE DISPARO POR

CONTACTO

El soporte puede extraeree y almacenarse en el bolsillo de alma-

cenamiento ubicado en la tapa posterior del dep6sito. La Ilave

hexagonal se almacena en el dep6sito (vdase le Figura 8).

EXTRACClON DE UN SUJETADOR ATASCADO

Consultelas Figuras9 y 10.

ADVERTENCIA: Desconectelaherramientadel abastacimien-

to de aire antes de intentar extraersujetadoresatascados.

• Tire del alojamiento del impulsor hacia atr&shasta que no

queden elavos en el impulsor.Luego optima el pestillo y permi-

ta que el alojamiento se deslice hacia la parta frontal del

depbsito,

Deslice hacia atrds la banda de o[avoy retffela del dep6sito.

ADVERTENClA: Los sujetadores se encuentren a presi6n de

resorte y pueden salir dieparados del dep6sito.

Optima el pestillo hacia arriba y abra la puerta (v_ase la

Figura 10).

Use alicates de punta larga para extraer el sujetador atascado.

Cierre la puerta e introduzca la banda de clavos.

OPERACION EN CLIMAS FRIOS

PRECAUClON: No Ioalmaceneen unambientefrfo. La escar-

chao el hielopuedeformarse en el interiorde la herramienta

afectandola operaci6ny ocasionandodafiosa la unidad.Utilice

un lubricanteparatemperaturasfrlas, tal como eletilenglicol,

cuandoopere la herramientaentemperaturascongeladas.

LUBRICACION

Lubriquela herramientadiariamentecon aceiteparaherramientas

neum_ticas de calidad.Si nose utilizaunlubricadorparala Ifnea

de aire, a_ada diariamentede cincoa seisgotasde aceiteen la

tapade laentradade aire (Fig. 12, No.24) de la herramienta.

DEPOSITO Y PISTON-ARRIETE

Mantenga eldepbsitoyla orejade la herramientaIimpiosy

libresde polvo,pelusa o partfculasabrasivas.

Con el tiempo,la puntadel ariete (Fig. 12, No. 16) puedeabo-

Ilarseo redondearse.

Empareje la punta del ariete con una limade mano fina y

limpia para prolongar la vk:la0til del ariete y de la herramienta.

El disparo de sujetadores set& mds consistente si la puntadel

ariete se mantiene limpiay pareja.

VERIFICACION DEL MECANISMO DE SEGURIDAD

Inspeccioneel mecanismo de seguridadde disparo por contacto

diariamentepara garantizar una operaci6n corre0ta. No opere la

herramienta si el mecanismo no opera de forma correcta.

Con ei interruptor pulsador rojo en el modo de disparo rdpido,

Ileve a cabo los procedimientos a continuaci6n para probar el

mecanismo de seguridad.

• No toque el gatillo mientras presiona e[ disparo par contacto

contrala pieza de trabajo.La herramlenta no deberd

disparar.

• Oprima el gatillo mientras el disparo par contacto estd alejado

de la pieza de trabajo y apuntado en direcci6n contraria a

usted y a otras personas. La herrsmienta no deberd

dlsparar.

• Oprima y sostenga el gatillo. Presione el disparo pot contacto

contra la plaza de trabajo donde se debe colocar el sujetador,
