6 Important Information on the
Rechargeable Batteries
6.1 General information
The supplied rechargeable battery is a lithium polymer battery of the highest quality. The
battery life is 3 hours and depends on the following conditions:
LNB power consumption: Single, dual or quad LNB.
Outside temperature: At temperatures below 10 °C, the battery power is reduced by
20%.
Age of the battery: The battery capacity is reduced by 10% per year.
Tip
If the signal meter has been exposed to particularly low or high temperatures,
allow it to rest at room temperature before use.
6.2 Charging the Battery
Always turn off the MSK140 before connecting the battery charger.
Do not leave the batteries uncharged for a long period of time.
Always charge the batteries for at least seven hours, even if they are not fully
discharged.
The battery indicator has a tolerance of ±20% and depends on the battery charge status
and ageing process as well as the outside temperature. The following icons at the bottom
left of the touch-screen provide information about the battery level:
6.3 Replacing the Battery
NOTICE
Risk of material damage due to overheating!
Do not damage or open the battery or subject it to any improper use.
Use only rechargeable batteries which have been tested and approved
for the unit.
Make sure that the rechargeable batteries are replaced only by the Kath-
rein staff.

stream
aBER (Bit Error Rate after Viterbi) Ratio of transmitted bits to erroneous bits after
Reed Solomon (Viterbi)
BCH (Bose Chaudhuri Hocquenghem) External error protection decoder
BER (Bit Error Rate) The bit error rate is a measure of the quality of DVB sig-

symbols for the ideal constellation, measured in dB.
FEC (Forward Error Correction) At the code rate ¾, for example, ¾ of the infor-
mation is payload, ¼ of the data is from the Viterbi correction.
Guard interval Interval by extending the symbol through a gap. As a result, good recep-
tion is possible even with strong reections.

MER The MER (Modulation Error Rate) is the ratio of the average signal power
to the average error power in dB. It is a type of C/N measurement that
gives information about whether a receiver is still able to demodulate the
received signal.
MPTS Multiple Program Transport Stream
NID (Network Identification) Network ID or program ID number between 0 and
