Step%1%Unpacking%

Carefully!unpack!your!turntable!and!make!sure!all!parts!are!present,!notify!your!
dealer!immediately!of!any!shortages.!

Please!retain!your!packaging!for!transportation!in!the!future,!as!this!is!the!safest!
way!to!transport!your!turntable.!

Step%2%Select%a%stand%for%your%record%player.%%
!
The!turntable!should!be!placed!on!a!level.!Use!your!spirit!level!to!check/adjust!
the!level!if!necessary.!Ideally!the!surface!should!be!a!rigid!stand!or!table!
preferably!not!a!resonant!piece!of!furniture!like!a!sideboard!or!hollow!box!to!
avoid!airborne!and!footfall!vibrations!during!playback.!If!your!floorboards!are!
loose!or!bouncy!a!wall!shelf!may!be!a!better!option!to!reduce!the!risk!of!the!
stylus!jumping.!

Fit!the!drive!belt!!(3)!around!the!drive!hub!(4)!and!the!smaller!part!of!the!motor!

45!r.p.m.!Avoid!getting!sweat!or!grease!on!the!belt!as!these!will!reduce!
performance!and!the!belts!lifespan.!!Absorbent!kitchen!paper!can!be!used!to!
remove!oil!or!grease!from!the!outer!edge!of!the!hub!and!belt.!!Fit!the!platter!(5)!
and!felt!mat!over!the!spindle!of!the!drive!hub!(4).!

Step%4%%Fitting%and%connecting%the%cartridge%%

The!cartridge!is!not!included!this!allows!you!to!select!and!fit!your!preferred!
choice!be!this!moving!magnet!or!moving!coil.!!
!
The!Peak!PA1!tone!arm!will!work!with!a!wide!range!of!cartridges!and!if!in!doubt!
your!dealer!will!be!able!to!help!you!select!a!suitable!cartridge.!!

Take!the!cartridge!from!its!packaging!and!leaving!the!stylus’s!protective!cover!in!
place!fit!the!cartridge!to!the!head!shell!using!the!screws!supplied!with!the!
cartridge!by!passing!one!screw!through!each!slot!in!the!head!shell!(20).!Do!not!
fully!tighten!the!screws!yet.!
!
Carefully!connect!the!tonearm!wires!taking!care!not!to!excessively!tug!or!
pull!on!them!as!this!may!damage!to!the!wires!or!the!connecting!tags.!!
!
The!wires!should!be!connected!to!the!cartridge!pins!as!follows:!
!
White!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!left!channel!positive!(L+)!
Red!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!right!channel!positive!(R+)!
Green!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!right!channel!return!(R!^)!

The!full!potential!of!the!Peak!PT1!can!only!be!realised!by!the!correct!
installation!of!the!cartridge.!!
!
Ensure!the!bias!adjustment!slider!is!set!to!zero,!this!is!not!shown!but!is!located!in!
between!the!tonearm!lever!lift!(7)!and!the!tonearm!rest!and!lock!(8).!
!
Great!care!must!be!taken!with!this!stage!otherwise!irreparable!damage!
may!be!caused!to!the!stylus!and!or!cantilever.!
!
Ensure!the!tonearm!lever!lift!(7)!is!in!the!raised!position!to!minimise!the!risk!of!
the!stylus!coming!into!contact!with!any!part!of!the!turntable.!Remove!the!
tonearm!tube!(9)!from!the!tonearm!rest!and!locks!(8)!unlock!if!required.!The!!
stylus!guard!should!now!be!removed!carefully.!
!
The!tonearm!counterweight!(6)!should!be!screwed!onto!the!shaft!and!positioned!
where!the!stylus!is!“floating”!like!a!set!of!balanced!scales!this!means!there!is!zero!
tracking!force!at!the!stylus.!The!tracking!force!as!recommended!by!the!cartridge!
manufacturer!can!now!be!applied!by!rotating!the!tonearm!counterweight!(6)!so!
that!it!moves!forward!towards!the!front!of!the!arm.!A!half!turn!(through!180!
degrees)!generates!1!gram!of!tracking!pressure.!(turning!the!weight!360!degrees!
will!apply!2!grams).!Use!the!plastic!plugs!found!on!the!weight!as!a!guide!or!better!
still!if!you!have!a!stylus!pressure!gauge!this!can!now!be!used!to!check!the!down!
force.!

When!the!desired!tracking!force!has!been!achieved!the!cartridge!alignment!can!
be!finalised.!Place!the!hole!in!the!cartridge!alignment!protractor!over!the!record!
spindle.!Place!the!stylus!carefully!on!the!cross,!move!the!cartridge!in!the!
headshell!until!the!cartridge!and!the!headshell!are!parallel!w it h! the!printed!lines.!
Ensure!the!cartridge!is!squarely!fitted!in!the!headshell!and!tighten!the!cartridge!
fixing!screws.!

If!you!have!a!stylus!pressure!gauge!re^check!the!down!force!and!adjust!if!
necessary.!

The!bias!adjustment!slider!should!be!set!to!the!same!figure!as!the!tracking!
weight.!Your!PA1!tonearm!is!now!ready!for!use.!

The!PA1!is!suitable!for!a!large!range!of!cartridges!
without!any!adjustment!to!the!VTA.!!

On!the!diagram!to!the!right!dimension!A!=!the!
distance!from!the!stylus!tip!to!the!top!of!the!
cartridge!mounting!surface.!The!PA1!will!accept!
cartridges!with!18mm!to!20mm!without!any!need!
for!adjustment!and!produce!excellent!results.!!Do!
not!forget!that!the!thickness!of!records!vary!by!up!
to!2mm!so!it!is!best!not!be!too!worried!over!
obtaining!an!exact!VTA!because!an!exact!figure!can!not!exist!due!to!the!different!
thicknesses!of!records!and!it!is!therefore!always!a!compromise.!!

If!you!have!any!doubts!over!the!suitability!of!your!cartridge!consult!your!dealer!
and!if!the!cartridge!is!significantly!different!to!the!dimensions!above!they!may!
need!to!provide!you!with!a!headshell!or!tonearm!spacer.!!

Step%5%Connection%to%the%amplifier%%

The!Peak!PT1!is!fitted!with!the!PA1!tonearm!which!is!fitted!with!a!high!quality!
screened!phono!lead!(14).!!The!phono!lead!is!terminated!with!two!phono!plugs,!!
the!red!phono!plug!is!the!right!hand!channel!and!the!white!phono!plug!is!the!left!
hand!channel.!The!phono!plugs!should!be!connected!to!the!right!and!left!inputs!
of!the!phono!amplifier,!the!phono!amplifier!may!be!a!stand!alone!unit!connected!
to!your!amplifier!or!your!amplifier!may!have!a!built!in!phono!stage,!either!way!
the!phono!amplifier/stage!must!be!matched!to!your!selected!cartridge.!

If!you!have!any!doubts!as!to!the!suitability!of!your!phono!amplifier!

The!turntable!is!fitted!with!an!AC!power!supply!suitable!for!your!countries!mains!

Connect!the!low!voltage!plug!from!the!power!supply!to!the!socket!(13)!on!the!

The!dust!cover!should!fitted!carefully!over!the!hinge!prongs.!The!screws!!(12)!
can!be!adjusted!to!tighten!the!lid!so!that!it!stays!open!where!you!want!it.!

Don’t!make!the!hinges!so!stiff!that!they!damage!the!dust!cover!when!!!!
opening!or!closing.!Over!tightening!may!also!damage!the!threaded!

The!PT1!requires!little!regular!maintenance!and!the!occasional!clean.!!

The!plinth!is!sealed!and!requires!no!more!than!the!occasional!wipe!with!a!damp!
cloth!to!remove!dust.!!It!is!recommended!you!have!your!stylus!guard!in!place!
when!cleaning!to!avoid!any!accidental!damage.!

The!turntable!bearing!is!lubricated!with!a!high^quality!film!of!oil!to!ensure!years!
of!friction^free!function.!Regardless!of!the!frequency!of!use,!it!is!recommended!to!
check!from!time!to!time!to!ensure!a!sufficient!protective!oil!film!is!present.!!
If!the!turntable!is!used!in!spite!of!lack!of!oil!serious!damage!of!the!platter!
bearing!may!be!caused.!To!ensure!adequate!lubrication!and!prevent!the!
premature!wear!of!the!turntable!bearing,!we!recommend!using!our!
special!lubricant!Peak!Turntable!Company!which!can!be!obtained!from!
any!authorised!dealer.!!

You!can!clean!your!dust!cover!(10)!with!a!soft!cloth!(we!recommend!a!soft!
microfibre!cloth)!and!a!mild!soap!solution!(dishwashing!liquid)!and!lukewarm!
water.!Apply!only!light!pressure!and!only!use!a!clean!cloth!to!prevent!surface!
