Recommandations
We strongly recommend you entrust
the installation of this Stûv to a
qualified professional who is able to
ensure that the characteristics of the
smoke flue correspond to the stove
installed.
The installation of the stove, its
accessories and surrounding materials
must adhere to all regulations (local
and national) and all standards
(national and European).
Some national and local regulations
require the installation of an access
flap in the connection between the
stove and the smoke flue.
The stove has to be installed in such
a way as to facilitate access to sweep
the stove, the connection duct and
the smoke flue.
Any modification made to the system
may be dangerous and will invalidate
the guarantee.

PREPARATION OF THE AREA
The different configurations
There are 4 configurations. These
depend on the configuration of the
site and whether or not a turning
plate is installed.
Connection at the back [photo1]
It is obviously not possible to install a
turning plate with this configuration.
You can use our custom “rear outlet”
kit or a standard duct which has to be
attached and air-tight.
Connection going upwards –
without turning plate [photo2]
The duct is positioned on the stove.
A gap has to be left at ceiling level.
The duct can be straight, elbowed or
deflected.
Connection going upwards – with
turning plate [photo3]
> If the flue is straight, the stove
and the flue are firmly attached
(rotation of the flue at ceiling
connection level). The soldering of
the flue is visible at the back of the
stove whatever its direction. A gap
also has to be left at ceiling level.
> If the flue has an elbow or is
deflected, it is fixed at wall or
ceiling level (rotation of stove only).
The duct is placed on a bearings
system at stove level which enables
it to rotate.
Please note
In all cases, leave a gap of 2 mm/m
for expansion of the flue and to
ensure good rotation of the stove.

Combustion air inlet
The stove requires air for combustion
(particularly when working in open-
fire mode).
An adequate air inlet of Ø 150mm
ideally has to be created below the
stove or behind it in the bottom of the
stove [diagrams 1&2].
This air inlet comes from a ventilated
empty space, a ventilated room
(cellar) or from outside (mandatory
regulation in some countries).
Sufficient renewal of air in the room
always has to be ensured when the
stove is in operation (in particular
when working in open-fire mode).
The internal/external valve
[photo3] prevents the house from
becoming cold when the stove is not
in use.
It should ideally be located as close
as possible to the outside wall. It can
be controlled from inside if it is not
too far away from the stove (cable
length= 120cm).
Please note
Be careful with air extraction systems
(kitchen hoods, air conditioning,
mechanically-controlled ventilation,
other stoves) in operation in the same
space or in an adjacent room. They
also use lots of air and can cause a
depression in the room and prevent
the stove from operating correctly
(risk of draughtback). They can affect
the operation of the stove even if it is
connected to an outside air inlet.

Smoke flue
Ensure the flue’s dimensions meet
local regulations and the applicable
installation standards in line with good
practice.
Basic information
To ensure good draw of air, the stove
must be suited to the flue (or vice
versa).
An oversized flue is as detrimental to
the proper operation of the stove as
an undersized flue.
At www.stuv.eu > questions –
answers you will find a simplified
method for an initial evaluation of the
flue characteristics based on the type
of stove.
The flue will be as straight as possible
and insulated to encourage the draw
of air and to prevent condensation.
The ideal solution is a thermally
insulated flue constructed inside the
building. An outside flue without any
insulation must be avoided.
The stove must never be connected to
a smoke flue serving more than one
system.
Heat loss
If various flue ducts are available, use
only one ; plug unused ducts at the
top and bottom. Ensure the ceiling
of the niche in which the stove is
enclosed is air-tight [diagram 1].
An unused flue, a ventilated empty
space between the walls or a space
between the ducting and the
old flue may cause a detrimental
counter-draught (the hot air escapes)
[diagram2] or an inflow of cold air
from outside [diagram 3].

Smoke flue (continuation)
Standard outlet diameter
The Stûv 30 has an outlet of Ø150
or 180mm depending on the model
ordered.
Some flue configurations may
require a different diameter than that
provided as standard. Should this be
the case, please consult your retailer.
Holding capacity of the structure
Ensure the floor is resistant enough to
support the stove ; consult a specialist
if in doubt.
Ensure that the ground is level if you
plan to install the turning plate or
ground plate.
Air-tightness
The various components which make
up the connection between the stove
and the smoke flue and those which
make up the flue itself have to be
fitted so that they are airtight for the
condensation [diagram 4a] rather than
the smoke [diagram 4b].

The stove’s surroundings
Radiated heat
Significant heat may be radiated
through the glass door and the walls.
Whichever direction the stove is
facing, please adhere to the safety
distances from combustible materials
or ensure that the materials exposed
to radiated heat are resistant to high
temperatures [diagrams 1&2].
Prevent "heat traps" in the
cladding, recess and hood
If the stove is situated in a bell-shaped
area (ex : a former hearth), this space
must be ventilated to prevent "heat
traps".
Any enclosed or bell-shaped spaces
around the stove effectively constitute
a heat trap which results in the
heating-up of the walls [diagram 3].
Circulation of air can be ensured by
having an air inlet in the base of the
cladding (hood or recess) and an

On taking delivery of the equipment
Please note !
Upon receipt of this stove, please
ensure than the glass door has not
been damaged during delivery. The
guarantee only covers damage due
to transport if it is reported within
48hours of delivery and it is indicated
on the delivery slip.
Complaints
If you wish to make a complaint,
always quote the serial number visible
on the stove in the closed-door
position [photo 1].
Please note !
The paint is not oven baked and is
therefore relatively fragile but will
harden after being heated a few
times. Handle the system with care
when installing.
Moving
While the stove is still packaged, you
can use a pallet loader or a hand-lift
truck [photo1]. Move it close to its
final position.
If you are unable to transport
the stove on its pallet to its final
position, please observe the following
unpacking instructions.
Unpacking
Remove the wooden casing using
the claw hammer [photo 2] then the
plastic packaging [photo 3] and the
plastic film at the bottom of the stove
[photo 4].

Removing the exterior parts of the stove
The steel section [photo1 A] supports
the stove during handling to avoid
putting pressure on the doors or the
drum. It is later removed when the
stove is moved into its final position.
To make the stove lighter, easier to
handle and to avoid damaging the
mobile parts, we strongly recommend
that you unpack the Stûv30 and
remove the contents from the
combustion chamber before starting
the actual installation.
Remove the 2 plates on the top of the
stove (the one at the back and then
the one at the front) [photo1].
Using a size10 socket wrench,
unscrew and remove the side panels
[photos2&3].
Open the door of the ash pan and
remove it by taking it off its hinges
[photo4].
Carefully cut the plastic film holding
the doors [photo5]. Do not tear this
film off ! One of the ends of this film is
stuck between the solid door and the
body of the stove. Unlock and open
the door using the cold grip (found in
the combustion chamber) to release it
[photo6].
Remove the 3 doors : half open them
gently, lift them off their hinges and
slide them to the left [photo7].
Remove the ash pan [photo8].

Emptying the combustion chamber
Note !
When you handle symmetrical parts
while dismantling, remember to take
note of which are the left parts and
which are the right ones ! It will make
re-assembly easier.
Remove the steel bar which supports
the two horizontal vermiculite
components [photos1&2 C]. Push it
upwards to remove it from its notches.
Remove the 2 horizontal vermiculite
components [photo3] and then the
smoke deviator [photos 2 D&4]
vertically.
Then remove the refractors at the
bottom of the stove [photo2 A]. They
are simply placed in position.
Then remove the vertical refractors
[photo2 B].
Removing the exterior parts of the stove (continuation)
Checking the contents
In the combustion chamber, you will
find [photo9] :
spray paint for touching up,
cold grip to handle the door and the
valve,
the stove’s adjustable feet,
the filling plate for the upper smoke
outlet.

steel plate and the protective cover
[photo3].
Once the Stûv 30 is resting on the
hand-lift truck, it is easy to fit the
adjustable feet and turning plate.
Final positioning of the stove
Positioning of the feet and stove (without turning plate)
If you are installing a turning plate, go
to the next section.
If you are not installing a turning
plate, position the adjustable feet
supplied [photo1] as well as the anti-
slide pads supplied with the stove.
Bring the stove back to vertical
and move it into its final position
[photo2].
Once the stove is in position, you can
remove the galvanized stainless steel
piece using the size 8 socket wrench
[photo3].
Using a level, ensure the stove is
plumb for connection to the chimney
duct. Modify the adjustable feet if
necessary.

Positioning of the turning plate and stove
If you have chosen the turning plate
option, do not use the adjustable feet.
Lift the stove onto the hand-lift truck
using a 10 cm wedge [diagram 1] for
easy access to the base of the stove.
The plate has to be tilted to gain
access to position the 2M 10 screws
at the back (above the hand-lift
truck) ; position the first screw and
then release the plate, turn it to align
the second hole and position the
second screw [diagram 2].
Screw in the turning plate using the
2M6 screws and 2M10 screws at the
front of the stove [diagram 3].
Ensure the stove is plumb. The stove
and the duct have to be vertical
[diagram4].
For fine adjustment, unscrew the
2M10 screws at the front of the stove
[diagram2], adjust the verticality with
the 2M6 screws [photos5 &6] and
re-screw the 2M10 screws to secure
the adjustment.
Ensure the smoke outlet is plumb :
take two reference points, turn the
stove and check that the distances
X and Y remain constant (at around
3 mm) [diagram 7]. Move the stove
slightly if necessary.

Connection to the smoke flue
Please note
There are 4 configurations for
connecting the stove to the chimney
flue (see page 6).
Whatever the configuration of the
connection, do not forget to leave
a gap of 2mm/m for the expansion
of the parts which make up the
connection.
Connection to the ceiling
Use one of the connections
recommended by Stûv. The flue union
[diagram 1] is the link between the
duct and a brickwork flue. The cross
connection [diagram 2] connects
the duct and another tubular pipe
(flexible, double-wall duct).
Feed the ceiling connection through
the duct, position the duct on the
stove, check that it is plumb and then
secure the connection (4 self-tapping
screws not supplied).
If you use the flue union [diagram 1],
do not forget to position the ceramic
wool and the refractory concrete
finishing cone.
Connection going upwards –
without turning plate
Slide the duct onto the flange
[photo3].
Make air-tight by filling the space
between the duct and the flange
using the high-temperature-resistant
seal [photo 4].
The gap for expansion and the
rotation system will be hidden at
ceiling connection level [diagram 5].
Connection going upwards – with
turning plate
The flue is soldered to the ceiling
connection to prevent it from rotating.
It will expand at ceiling level. The duct
does not rest on the stove to allow it
to rotate freely [diagram 6].

Release the 2 semi-circles of the side
panels [photo14].
Re-screw the locking plate [photo15].
In most cases, the length of the duct
is less than a metre. It is therefore
not necessary to leave a gap for
expansion.
Connection at wall level
We strongly recommend using the
wall connection designed by Stûv
[diagram16].
Fit the wall connection ensuring that
the back part goes into the smoke flue
by more than 5 mm minimum.
Place the rosace around the duct.
Place the duct into the double
connection.
Simply push the rosace against the
wall.
