Painting / Staining Instruction
Painting: Before the planter is assembled, prime all surfaces that you want to paint with a primer
that is to be used with exterior latex paint. Priming is not a requirement but it is highly recommended
as it will provide better coverage when you apply the paint and you paint job will last longer and look
better.
After the primer has dried check the instructions on the primer to determine the time between
application of the primer and when it is ready for paint apply a minimum of 2 coats of a quality
exterior latex based primer.
Allow the panels to dry completely and reassemble the house and that’s it!
Staining:
Before the planter is assembled, apply a coat of quality oil based stain to the panels.
Let the stain set for about 5-7 minutes and wipe off the excess stain. If the color is lighter than the
effect you are looking for, repeat until you get the color you want. The base and top trim might take
longer time and more coat to get to the desired color.
Let the stain dry thoroughly check the instructions on the stain to determine full drying time and
then apply a minimum of 2 coats of a polyurethane varnish/top coat. Using a poly with additional UV
inhibitors in the poly will add to the time required before you will need to retain the planter.
