1. The use of unleaded petrol with synthetic oil is recommended
to reduce pollution. The mixture ratio should be 50:1 (2%).
If mineral oil is used, the mixture ratio should be 25:1 (4%).
•
Synthetic oil: "FC" oil grade in JASO scheme
•
Mineral oil: "FB" oil grade in JASO scheme
Before starting the engine
1. Fill the fuel tank and rest the trimmer/brushcutter on
the ground.
2. Make sure the cutting attachment is clear of any broken
glass, nails, wire, stones or other debris.
3. Keep all bystanders, children and animals away from
the working area.
• Always wear safety goggles to protect your eyes
and ear protectors to dampen the noise level.
• Always wear heavy long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt,
boots and gloves when working with this tool. Do not
wear loose clothing, jewellery, shorts or sandals, and never
work barefoot. Tie hair so it is above shoulder length.
• Never operate this trimmer/brushcutter when you are
tired, ill, or under the influence of alcohol,
drugs or medications.
• Be sure to secure the metal blade when storing the tool
or transporting it.
Cold starting procedure (see Fig. 8)
1. Turn the choke lever (A) to the closed position ( ).
2. Pump the primer bulb (B) until fuel can be seen flowing
through the fuel return line (C) to the fuel tank. Flowing
fuel should be almost clear, not foamy or full of bubbles.
3. Put the stop switch (D) in the “START/ON” position (G),
and the throttle trigger on the fast-idle start position
(E: Press F), pull the starter cord. Once the engine has
started, turn the choke lever to the open position ( ).
Then squeeze and release the throttle trigger to allow it
to return to the idle position.
If the engine stops running before you turn the choke
lever to the open position ( ): go ahead and open
the choke, pull the starter cord with the throttle trigger
positioned on the fast-idle start position.
Hot restart (see Fig. 8)
To start the engine when it is already warmed up (hot restart).
1. Turn the choke lever to the open position ( ), and set
the stop switch to the “START/ON” position (G).
2. Leave the throttle trigger in the idle position and pull
the starter grip.
3. If the engine fails to start after three to four pulls, follow
the instructions in the Cold Starting Procedure section above.
To stop the engine (see Fig. 8)
1. Release the throttle trigger.
2. Put the stop switch in the “STOP/OFF” position (H).
■ IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT
(SEE FIG. 9)
The cutting attachment may be moving during idle speed
adjustment.
Wear the recommended personal protective equipment
and observe all safety instructions.
Keep hands and body away from the cutting attachment.
When the throttle trigger is released, the engine should return
to an idle speed.
The correct speed for models PBC-4243M and PBC-5043M
is 2400 - 2800 min
-1
; for model PBC-3243M it is 2700 - 3300 min
-1
(or just below the clutch engagement speed).
The cutting attachment must not turn and the engine should not
stall (stop running) at engine idle speed.
To adjust the engine idle speed, turn the idle speed adjustment
screw (A) on the carburetor.
■ OPERATING POSITION
(SEE FIG. 10 - 11)
1. You must always wear the shoulder harness attached
to the trimmer/brushcutter, and hold the tool on your
right side.
[Models: PBC-4243M, PBC-5043M]
2. Hold the right-hand horn handle grip with your right hand,
with your fingers on the throttle trigger.
3. With your left hand, hold the left-hand horn handle grip,
with your fingers and thumb fully enclosed around the grip.
[PBC-3243M, PBC-3243ML]
2. The operator's right hand should be holding the shaft grip,
with his or her fingers on the throttle trigger. The right arm
should be slightly bent.
3. The left hand should be holding the loop handle with the
fingers and thumb fully enclosed around the grip. The left
arm may be extended. Reposition the loop handle up or
down the driveshaft if necessary for a comfortable position.
4. Squeeze the throttle trigger and wait until the engine
has reached cutting speed before approaching the area
to be cut.
5. Always release the throttle trigger and allow the engine
to return to idle speed when not cutting.
6. Stop the engine when moving between work sites.
• If the cutting attachment becomes jammed, stop the
engine immediately.
• Make certain all moving parts have stopped and
disconnect the spark plug before inspecting the
equipment for damage.
• Never use a trimmer/brushcutter that has a chipped,
cracked or broken cutting attachment or guard.
■ HARNESS (SEE FIG. 12)
WARNING
Never operate the Trimmer / Brushcutter without
installing and using the harness.
Insert the hook (A) into the ring (B) on the drive shaft. To detach
the harness quickly from the trimmer/brushcutter, pull upward
on the tab (C).
■ OPERATION
WARNING
Ensure that there are no children, bystanders or pets
in the work area. Keep all children, bystanders
and helpers outside a 15-metre radius of the trimmer/
brushcutter. If a person approaches your work area,
stop the engine and cutting attachment immediately.
Cutting direction of brushcutter blade
(see Fig. 13)
When cutting heavy brush, always swing the brushcutter from
right to left. Swinging the brushcutter from left to right can cause
the blade to kick back.
