1. Technical description.
A buffer PSU is intended for an uninterrupted supply to mx. 4 net camcoders requiring stabilised voltage of
24 V DC (+/-15%). The PSU provides voltage of U=27,6 V DC with current capacity:
1. Output current 4x1A + 0,5A battery charging
2. Output current 4x0,87A + 0,2A battery charging
Total device current + battery: 5,5A max.
In case of power decay, a battery back-up is activated immediately. The PSU is constructed based on the
switch mode PSU, with high energy efficiency. The PSU is housed in a metal enclosure (colour RAL 9003) which
can accommodate two 2x7Ah/12V batteries. A micro switch indicates door opening (front cover). Supply to the
camcorders is by means of network cabling, with twisted pairs 4/5 (+) and 7/8 (-), which, in accordance with the
Ethernet network standard, are not intended for data transmission (data transmission uses 1/2 and 3/6 twisted
pairs). The PSU cannot be used in Gigabit Ethernet networks, where all twisted pairs take part in a data transition.
The power supply is also adapted to the mounting of the DCDC20 (5V÷18V/2A÷1,3A) converter.

2. Installation
2.1 Requirements
The buffer PSU shall be mounted by a qualified installer with appropriate permissions and qualifications for
230V/AC installations and low-voltage installations (required and necessary for a given country). The device shall
be mounted in confined spaces, according to the environment class II, with normal air humidity (RH=90% max.
without condensation) and the temperature from -10°C to +40°C. The PSU shall operate in a vertical position that
guarantees sufficient convectional air-flow through ventilating holes of the enclosure.
Before installation, prepare a PSU load balance. During normal operation, the total current
drawn by the device may not exceed I = 4A. Maximum battery charging current: 2 A. Total
device current + battery: 5,5 A max.
As the PSU is designed for a continuous operation and is not equipped with a power-switch, therefore an
appropriate overload protection shall be guaranteed in the power supply circuit. Moreover, the user shall be
informed about the method of unplugging (usually through assigning an appropriate fuse in the fuse-box). The
electrical system shall follow valid standards and regulations.

7
The PSU is intended for operation in Ethernet networks, with capacity of 10Mbit/s or 100Mbit/s (so-called
Fast Ethernet). It cannot bee used within the 1000Mbit/s capacity networks (so-called Gigabit Ethernet). The
connection between the camcorder and the PSU is to be done with a cable of UTP-3 category (in a network where
the data transmission speed amounts to 10Mbit/s) or UTP-5. Due to lower cable resistance, it is recommended to
use UUPT-5 type cables, also in the networks where the data transmission speed does not exceed 10Mbit/s
(especially when there is a significant distance between the PSU and its receiver).
2.2 Installation procedure
1. Before installation, cut off the voltage in the 230V power-supply circuit.
2. Mount the PSU in a selected location and connect the wires.
3. Connect the power cables (~230Vac) to L-N clips of the PSU. Connect the ground wire to the clip marked by the
earth symbol PE. Use a three-core cable (with a yellow and green PE protection wire) to make the connection.
Lead the cables to the appropriate clips through the insulating bushing of the connection board.
The shock protection circuit shall be performed with a particular care, i.e. the yellow and
green wire coat of the power cable shall stick to one side of the terminal - marked with
symbol on the PSU enclosure. Operation of the PSU without the properly made and
fully operational shock protection circuit is UNACCEPTABLE! It can cause a device
failure or an electric shock.
4. Connect the network cables (Ethernet) to the PoE module: the supply power appears only in the AUX power
outlets, and that is where the camcorders are to be plugged.
5. With F1/PTC1 – F4/PTC4 jumpers, select a sort-circuit or overload protection type. A jumper in the Fx position
the melting fuse is active, PTCx position – the PTC fuse is active.
6. If necessary, make technical connections:
- AW - technical output of the PSU operating status, indicates voltage absence at any of the outputs
(AUX1 ÷ AUX4)
- TAMPER - indicates enclosure opening
7. Connect the battery in accordance with the markings (colours)
- battery output (+V): BAT+ / red,
- battery output (0V): BAT - / black
8. Check the PSU operation indicator: green LED (green on the PoE module)
9. Check the PSU output voltage:
- the PSU voltage without load should amount to U=27, 6V DC.
10. Once the tests and operation control have been completed, the enclosure can be locked.
3. Operating status indication.
3.1 LED indication of operating status
The PSU is equipped with seven diodes in the front cover.
RED LED:
on – the PSU is supplied with 230V AC
off – no 230V AC supply
RED LED:
on – DC at the output of the switch-mode PSU
off – no DC at the output of the switch-mode PSU
RED LED:
on – fuse failure at one of the AUX1… AUX4 outputs
off – no failure
GREEN LED:
on – DC at the AUX1… AUX4 output
off – no DC at the AUX1… AUX4 output
www.pulsar.pl POE5524B
8
Additionally, the PSU is equipped with LEDs inside the enclosure – Fig. 2 and 3.
Operating status indication of the switch mode power supply:
Green LED indicates correct operation of the switch mode power supply.
Indication of voltage at the IN output of the PoE module – green LED.
Green diodes L1 ÷ L4 - indicate voltage at any of the module outputs (L1 for AUX1, etc.) If any of the Lx diodes is
off, it means that the shot-circuit or overload protection of a given circuit has been activated.
3.2 Technical outputs:
The PSU is equipped with indication outputs which inform about AC power failure or tampering inside the
power supply.
AW - technical output of the power supply: OC type indicates the PSU failure (short-circuit or overload).
In a normal status (under proper operation), the output is fault to ground (status L 0V), in case of
In case
of power loss, the PSU output is switched into hi-Z
(high impedance) state.
TAMPER - output indicates opening the power-supply unit: output as volt-free (potential-free) contacts
which indicate power-supply unit door status, unit closed: NC, unit opened: NO
4. Operation and use.
4.1 Overload or short circuit of the PSU output
The AUX1 – AUX4 outputs of the connector strip is equipped with an independent short-circuit / overload
protection due to melting or polymer fuses PTC (the selection of the fuse is done by a certain positioning of the
Fx/PTCx jumper). If the load of the PSU exceeds I
max
(load 110% ÷ 150% @2C of the PSU power), the output
voltage is automatically cut off and indicated by the Lx green diode off. . To restore the output power and to protect
the PTC, cut off the output load for approximately 1 minute (this amount of time is necessary for the PTC fuse to
cool down). If a melting fuse was used for the protection, it shall be replaced by a new one, of the same type and
rated current.
4.2 Disconnection of discharged battery.
The PSU is equipped with the discharged battery disconnection system. During the battery-assisted operation,
reducing voltage below 19V at the battery terminals will cause battery disconnection.
4.3 Maintenance
1.
Any and all maintenance operations may be performed following the disconnection of the PSU from the
power supply network. The PSU does not require performing any specific maintenance measures,
however, in the case of significant dust rate, its interior is recommended to be cleaned with compressed
air. Periodically, the battery condition ought to be checked. In case of any faults (capacity loss, too high
internal resistance), the battery needs to be exchanged. In case of fuse replacement, use a replacement of
the same parameters.

WEEE MARK
According to the EU WEE Directive – It is required not to dispose of electric or
electronic waste as unsorted municipal waste and to collect such WEEE separately.
The power supply unit is adapted for a sealed lead-acid battery (SLA). After the operation period it must not be
disposed of but recycled according to the applicable law.
