OVERVIEW

This guide provides details on how to connect your phone to your

computer and manage the phone’s music content.

In order to manage your phone’s content, you must first set your phone

connection settings as described in “PHONE CONNECTION SETTINGS”

on page 3. After setting your desired phone connection, you can manage

your phone’s music content using Windows Media Player.

Note If you set your phone’s connection setting as “Memory Card”,

your computer recognizes you phone as a removable storage

device. In this setting, you can manage your music using

Windows Media Player or by viewing the “Removable Disk”

icon contents under My Computer > Devices with Removable

Storage. Please refer to “MANAGING YOUR PHONE USING

THE MEMORY CARD SETTING” on page 13 for more

information.

After connecting your phone, you can manage your music by:

 “SYNCING YOUR PHONE WITH WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER

USING MEDIA SYNCHRONIZATION” on page 4.

 “MANAGING YOUR PHONE USING WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER

AND THE MEMORY CARD SETTING” on page 9.

PHONE CONNECTION SETTINGS

You must ensure that the proper connection setting is selected on your

phone when connecting your phone to a computer via a USB cable. The

following procedure will help you change your phone settings to the

correct connection mode depending on your application.

Important Please make sure to select your phone setting BEFORE

you connect your USB cable to your phone.

When connecting your phone and computer via the USB

cable, you may not be able to change the connection

setting on the phone once connected. When you connect

your phone and your computer with the USB cable, you

may not be able to change the phone connection setting

when the phone is attached. This is necessary to avoid

data loss or memory card corruption if the connection is

lost during data transfer.

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR PHONE CONNECTION SETTING

The following is a general procedure on changing the connection

settings. Please refer to your phone’s user manual for more detailed

steps for your particular phone.

1 Press the Center key ( ) on your keypad.

2 From the Main menu, select Settings > Connections.

3 Select the phone connection setting you wish to use:

 Media Synchronization - when syncing downloaded content

from ripped CD's, or purchased content from Windows Media

DRM-protected music files from supported online stores (such

as Urge, Yahoo, and Napster) with Windows Media Player.

 Memory Card - when syncing your phone directly with your

computer, or if you would like to manage specific music content

between your phone or memory card to your computer.

Note Please ensure you are using Windows Media Player 11 or

later.

1 Change your phone connection setting to "Media Synchronization".

2 Attach the Motorola Original USB cable to the mini-USB port on your

phone and to an available USB port on your computer.

When you connect your phone to the USB cable for the first time, you

may see the following message. If you would like Windows Media

Player to open automatically, select the "Always Perform the

Selected Action" checkbox and click OK.

3 Your phone will appear in the upper right hand corner of the

Windows Media Player screen.

Note The ROKR Z6 will be used in the following procedures.

4 Click the "Sync" tab within Windows Media Player and select a music

category (located at the bottom left) to display the your phone's

current music files.

ADD MUSIC TO YOUR PHONE

You can easily add music to your device using Windows Media Player.

1 Select a music category under "Library" to display music currently on

your computer.

2 Drag and drop an entire album or individual music tracks from your

library to the "Drag Items Here" area.

3 Once you have made your selections, click Start Sync to transfer the

files from your computer to your phone.

4 A status screen will display showing the progress of the files being

transferred from your computer to your phone.

Note Click Stop Sync if you need to stop the synchronization

process for any reason.

Important Do not disconnect your phone during the synchronization

process. Doing so may result in a loss of data or corrupt

your memory card!

5 A disconnect message will display when the synchronization is

completed. You can now safely disconnect your phone from the USB

cable.

DELETE MUSIC FROM YOUR PHONE

You can also easily delete music from your device using Windows Media

Player.

1 Select a music category under your phone.

2 Right-click on individual tracks or the entire album and select

"Delete".

You can store your music on your phone’s Onboard Memory and

Memory Card.

Note Please refer to your phone’s user guide for Onboard Memory

and Memory Card capacity information.

You can view the available memory on your phone’s Onboard Memory

and Memory Card by switching between "Next Device".

You can also copy content from your phone to your computer. This can

be helpful if a file you previously synchronized from your computer to

your phone is accidentally deleted from your computer.

Note You can move files from your phone to your computer when

the phone is in either "Media Synchronization" or "Memory

Card" mode.

1 Change your phone connection setting to "Memory Card".

2 Attach the Motorola Original USB cable to the mini-USB port on your

phone and to an available USB port on your computer.

3 Select the content you would like to move from your phone to your

computer and drag them to the "Drag Items Here" area.

4 Click Copy from Device to move the content from your phone to your

computer.

5 A status screen will display showing the progress of the files being

transferred from your phone to your computer.

6 You can now view the content you transferred to your computer's

music library by selecting Library > Songs.

MANAGING YOUR PHONE USING THE

MEMORY CARD SETTING

1 Change your phone connection setting to "Memory Card".

2 Attach the Motorola Original USB cable to the mini-USB port on your

phone and to an available USB port on your computer.

3 Your phone will appear as a "Removable Disk" icon.

 On a PC, the icon is found in the "My Computer" window.

 On a Mac, the icon is found on the desktop.

Note There will be one Removable Disk icon shown if you are just

using your phone memory. A second Removable Disk icon is

shown if you have a memory card installed in your phone.

4 Double-click the Removable Disk icon for your phone or Memory

Card.

5 To copy the desired files onto your phone or Memory Card, drag and

drop them onto the appropriate Removable Disk icon.
