surrounding work space.

SPECIFIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
& ELECTRICAL INFORMATION
1. T
he combination of wood dust and metal filings can create a
f
ire hazard. Before the machine is used for shaping metal
products, make sure there are no wood dust deposits inside
the machine or in the dust collector.
2. Keep all guards in place and in working order.
3. C
heck belt before operating the sander to make sure that the
belt is not torn or loose. Also check that the belt is tracking
properly.
4. When using the disc, always sand on the side of the disc which
is moving downwards. Using the other half will cause the
workpiece to fly up, and is potentially very dangerous.
5. When sanding long or heavy materials that could cause the
sander to tip over, secure the sander to a bench or other
supporting surface. Also, provide additional support for the
work table if it is necessary.
6. D
o not sand pieces that are too small to be held onto securely.
A
lways hold the work firmly when sanding, and do not
attempt any freehand operations. The workpiece should be
held firmly to the table.
7. Use this sander for what it was designed for. Do not try to
p
erform operations that are behond its capabilities.
8. Do not force the machine. Feed materials into it at a rate that
does not slow or stall the motor.
9. Always turn the sander off and unplug it before changing the
belt or disc.
10. If any guard or other parts of the sander becomes damaged,
make sure it will still perform its intended function, if it does
not, have the part replaced before operating the sander.
WARNING
ALL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS MUST BE DONE BY A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN. FAILURE TO COMPLY MAY RESULT IN
SERIOUS INJURY! ALL ADJUSTMENTS OR REPAIRS MUST BE DONE WITH THE SANDER DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER
SOURCE. FAILURE TO COMPLY MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY!
WARNING: YOUR SANDER MUST BE CONNECTED TO A 110V, 15-
AMP, BRANCH CIRCUIT AND USE A 15-AMP TIME DELAY FUSE
OR CIRCUIT BREAKER. FAILURE TO CONNECT IN THIS WAY
CAN RESULT IN INJURY FROM SHOCK OR FIRE.
WARNING: IF NOT PROPERLY GROUNDED, THIS SANDER CAN
CAUSE ELECTRICAL SHOCK, PARTICULARLY WHEN USED IN
DAMP LOCATIONS. TO AVOID SHOCK OR FIRE, IF THE POWER
CORD IS WORN OR DAMAGED IN ANY WAY, HAVE IT
REPLACED IMMEDIA
TELY
.
GROUNDING
This sander must be gr
ounded. If it should malfunction or
breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric
curr
ent, to r
educe the risk of electric shock. This band saw is
equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor
and grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate
outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all
local codes and ordinances.
110V OPERATION
As received from the factory, your sander is ready to run at 110V
operation. This sander is intended for use on a circuit that has an
outlet and a plug which looks like the one illustrated in Fig.1.
W
ARNING:
DO NOT USE
A
TWO-PRONG ADAPTOR FOR THEY
ARE NOT IN ACCORDANCE WITH LOCAL CODES AND
ORDINANCES. NEVER USE IN CANADA.
EXTENSION CORDS
Use only 3-wire extension cords which have 3-prong grounding type
plugs and 3-hole receptacles which accept the tool’s plug. The use of
any extension cord will cause some loss of power
. For circuits that are
further away from the electrical circuit box, the wire size must be
increased proportionately in or
der to deliver ample voltage to the
sander motor.

ASSEMBLY
Warning! Do not plug this sander into the wall outlet or attempt to
o
perate until it is completely assembled.
BELT TABLE ASSEMBLY
1) Slide the belt and platen through the belt table.
2) Insert hex. hd. bolt (A) through the hole in the sander and the slot in
the underside of the table, as shown in figure 2.
3) Fasten the flat washer and table locking handle assembly (B) onto the
bolt. The table locking handle is spring loaded. By pulling the handle
away from the hex. hd. bolt, the handle can be rotated without
loosening or tightening the locking handle assembly.
4) A positive stop to set the belt table at 90
0
to the belt is located
underneath and at the back of the belt table. Place a combination
square against the table and the belt, once a perfect 90
0
angle is
obtained, unscrew hex. hd. bolt until it comes in contact with the
sander frame.
Note: When tilting the table, it should be reajusted so that the gap
between the belt and the table is no larger than 1/16˝. A gap larger than
this could cause the workpiece to slip down between the belt and the
table. See Fig. 3.
PLATEN ADJUSTMENT
The platen (A-Fig.4) can be adjusted by loosening the two cap screws
(B) that fasten it to the sander frame. The platen should be adjusted so
that it almost touches the back of the sanding belt.
DISC TABLE AND GUARD ASSEMBLY
Position the sanding disc guard and table assembly over the disc as
shown in figure 5. Fasten the guard and table assembly using 2 cap
screws supplied.

OPERATION
REMOVING OR INSTALLING SANDING BELT
1) Remove the lock knob from the top of the side cover and the screw
below the belt table, then remove the entire cover.
2) Pull the tracking knob (A-Fig.6) towards the front of the sander to
release the belt tension. While holding the tracking knob, remove the
sanding belt from the three wheels.
3) Reinstall the new sanding belt and replace cover.
BELT TRACKING
To track the sanding belt, turn the tracking knob (A). Turning the
tracking knob clockwise will move the belt right, and vice-versa. This
adjustment is usually very slight.
REMOVING OR INSTALLING SANDING DISC
1) Remove the two cap screws which hold the disc guard and table
assembly to the frame. Remove assembly.
2) Remove the sanding disc by peeling it off the disc plate. Clean any
adhesive residue off the disc plate.
3) Press the new sanding disc onto the disc plate.
4) Replace the guard and table assembly.
DUST CHUTE
Two dust chutes are supplied with this sander. One for the belt and one
for the disc. Both these dust chutes have an Inside Dimension of
1-1/2˝. See Figures 7 & 8.
TABLE ADJUSTMENTS
Both the disc and belt tables are adjustable from 90
0
to 45
0
. To adjust the
belt table, loosen the locking handle (A-Fig.7)on the right side of the
table, adjust the table to the desired angle and retighten. To adjust the
disc table, loosen the two locking knobs (B-Fig.8) on either side of the
table, adjust the table to the desired angle and retighten both lock
knobs.
