HOBIE PACIFIC TUNING AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE
1. Mast Rake
Adjust the forestay length by moving the single punched strip adjuster inside the
furler. A good starting point is to have 4 holes showing at the top of the furler.
When raising the mast position the forestay on the very top hole of this stay ad-
juster. Adjust the shroud tension to suit by use of the mainsheet or by the aid of
an assistant hanging off the trapeze wire.
1. Spreader rake
At least 35 mm – possibly closer to 45 mm is better, particularly in windy condi-
tions.
1. Diamond tension
Enough to give 25-30mm of prebend.
1. Shroud tension / Rig tension
Always firm, never loose.
NB : put two people pulling down on trapeze each side to adjust.
1. Batten tension
Always firm enough to remove all wrinkles. If fitted with wedding straps a pair of
pliers can be used to pull on webbing.
1. Rudder trim
Toe in between 0-4 mm.
1. If the hulls start walking, definitely tighten the bolts.
When tightening, loosen or remove the lock nut, tighten firmly and then refit the
lock nuts. Do not turn two nuts at once. If the boats are in continual use, check
the bolts every week at least.
Tighten using #17 wrenches only. Do not use lots of leverage and overtighten.
The occasional spray of lubricants on all bolts, rivets and stainless steel parts is
beneficial.

Measure X on the
tiller connection
and Y at the end of
the rudder blades
Y must be bet-
ween 0 to 4 mm
