• Before using the device, carefully read
through these operating instructions
and ensure you comply with the safety
instructions in all respects!
• This device should only be used for its
intended purpose as described in
these instructions.
• Do not discard these instructions.
• If you pass the device on to someone
else, please include the operating in-
structions.
Intended purpose
The device is designed to receive radio
programmes, play back music files from
external devices and as a dock for an iPod.
The device is intended for domestic use
and is unsuitable for commercial purpos-
es.
Warnings
If necessary, the following warnings will be
used in these operating instructions:
DANGER! High risk:
failure to observe this warning
may result in injury to life and
limb.
WARNING! Moderate risk: failure to ob-
serve this warning may result in injury or
severe material damage.
CAUTION: Low risk: failure to observe this
warning may result in minor injury or mate-
rial damage.

which should be remembered when using
the device.
DANGER for children
• Packaging material is not a toy. Chil-
dren must not play with the plastic
bags. There is a risk of suffocation.
• This device is not designed to be used
by persons with a physical, sensory or
mental disability (including children) or
persons without adequate experience
and/or understanding unless they are
supervised by someone responsible
for their safety or are instructed by
same how to use the device.
• Children must be supervised to ensure
that they do not play with the device.
• The device and remote control should
be kept out of the reach of children.
DANGER of electric shock
due to moisture
• Do not immerse the device, the power
cable or the power plug in water or any
other liquid.
• Protect the device against dampness,
drips and splashes. There is the dan-
ger of an electric shock. Do not place
any items filled with liquid, e.g. vases,
on the device.
• If liquids get into the device, unplug it
from the mains immediately. Have the
device checked before using it again.
• Do not use the device outdoors.
DANGER of electrocution
• Only connect the power plug to a
properly installed wall socket that is
easily accessible and delivers voltage
matching the rating plate. The wall
socket must also be easily accessible
after connection.
• If the power cable or the device itself is
damaged, unplug it immediately.
• If there is visible damage to the hous-
ing or the power cable, do not use the
device.
• Never open the device housing – it
contains no parts that require servic-
ing! If the housing is opened there is
danger to life caused by electric shock.
• To avoid any risk, do not make modifi-
cations to the product. The power ca-
ble must not be replaced by a non-
specialist. Repairs must be carried out
by a specialist workshop or at the
Service Center.

• This device is not designed to be oper-
ated with an external timer or a sepa-
rate telecontrol system.
• Even after it has been switched off, the
device has not been completely dis-
connected from the mains. To do this,
remove the power plug.
• Disconnect the power plug from the
wall socket…
… if there is a fault
… when you are not using the device
… before you clean the device and
… during thunder storms.
DANGER from batteries
• DANGER OF EXPLOSION! When in-
serting the battery, check the polarity.
Replace only with the same or an
equivalent type.
• Batteries can endanger life if swal-
lowed. Always store batteries in a
place that is inaccessible to small chil-
dren. If a battery is swallowed, seek
medical assistance immediately.

DANGER OF EXPLOSION!
Batteries
must not be charged or reactivated by
any other means, nor may they be tak-
en apart, thrown into fire or short-
circuited.
• Always remove flat batteries from the
device immediately as they can leak
and cause damage.
• Remove the batteries from the device if
you do not plan to use it for a prolonged
period. The batteries might leak and
cause damage.
• Do not expose batteries to extreme
conditions: do not place on radiators
or leave in direct sunlight. This other-
wise increases the risk of leakage.
• If battery acid has leaked out of the
battery, avoid contact with the skin,
eyes and mucous membranes. Wash
the affected areas immediately with
copious amounts of clean water and
seek medical help without delay.
WARNING about material damage
• Take care when handling the power
cable: always take hold of the power
cable at the plug. Do not pull on the
cable itself and never take hold of the
power cable with wet hands as this
may cause a short circuit or electric
shock. Do not place the device, furni-
ture or any similar items on the power
cable and take care that it does not
become trapped. Never tie a knot in
the power cable and do not connect it
to another cable. The power cable
must be laid where nobody can step
on it.
A damaged power cable may cause a
fire or electric shock. Check the power
cable from time to time. You must not
replace a damaged power cable your-
self. Repairs must be carried out by a
specialist workshop or at the Service
Center.
• Do not use any astringent or abrasive
cleaning agents.
• Heavy items must not be placed on
the device.
• Protect the device against heat. If you
set the device up on a shelf, maintain
a distance of at least 10 cm on all
sides.
• Naked flames, such as burning can-
dles, must not be placed on or imme-
diately next to the device.
• Switch off all devices before connect-
ing them to one another and follow the
instructions for the devices you wish to
connect.
• The device is fitted with non-slip feet.
As furniture is coated with various var-
nishes and plastics and may be treat-
ed with different cleaning products, it
cannot be completely ruled out that
some of these substances contain
components which may attack and
soften the feet. If necessary, place a
non-slip mat under the device.

• Use a dock adapter that fits your iPod /
iPhone. Do not attempt to connect
your iPod to the device by force.
iPhone and iPod are trademarks of Apple
Inc., registered in the U.S. and other coun-
tries.
“Made for iPod and iPhone” means that an
electronic accessory has been designed to
connect specifically to iPod and iPhone
and has been certified by the developer to
meet Apple performance standards.
Apple is not responsible for the operation
of this device or its compliance with safety
and regulatory standards.
TIP: In exceptional cases it is possible that
some functions may be limited on older
iPod models.

4. Preparing to use the
device
• Place the device on a firm, level sur-
face.
• Remove all packing material.
• Check whether all parts are present
and undamaged.
• Pull the transport packing out of the
battery holder in the remote control.

Replacing the battery in the remote
control

mote control.

6. Operation
6.1 Basic operation
As a rule, the instructions describe opera-
tion with the remote control. You can also
use the buttons on the device to perform
the basic functions.
Switching the device on/off
1. Turn the power switch POWER 6 to
ON.
2. Press ON/STANDBY 11 on the device
or ON/STAND-BY 40 on the re-
mote control. The device starts with
the last selected settings (mode, sta-
tion and volume) and the brightest dis-
play lighting.
3. Press ON/STANDBY 11 on the device
or ON/STAND-BY 40 on the re-
mote control again to switch the de-
vice to standby mode.
The device remains in standby mode even
after it is switched off. Since the device
continues to use a little power in this mode,
switch off the device using the power
switch POWER 6 (OFF) if you are not us-
ing it for a prolonged period. You will then
need to reset the clock and alarm time as
well as any stored radio stations and
sound settings.
Selecting mode
With the device switched on, press
MODE 39 to choose between the various
modes. The following appears in the dis-
play:
- iPOD: iPod
-
AUX: Device connected via AUX
IN 9
- RADIO: Radio
Display lighting
Choose between three brightness levels
for the display.
•Press SNOOZE/DIMMER 30 to
change the display lighting. This will
not work if the alarm clock is currently
sounding.
Switching off with SLEEP
You can use the sleep function to specify a
time after which the device is to switch off.
1. Press SLEEP 34. A switch-off interval
flashes in the display.
2. Press SLEEP 34 repeatedly to specify
the switch-off interval (in minutes):
120, 90, 60, 45, 30, 15, 10, 05, 00
(off).
3. Once the switch-off interval has been
specified SLEEP appears in the dis-
play.
6.2 Sound settings
Volume
• Set the required volume with VOL +/
18 on the device or with VOLUME +/
31 on the remote control. The setting
is displayed (VOL 00
30) and stored
until the device is switched off at the
power switch POWER 6.
Muting
•Press 24 on the remote control to
switch the sound on and off.
Tone controls
Set the required tone with BASS +/
33
and TREBLE +/
32 on the remote control.
The setting is displayed (TREB, BASS: -05
to +05) and stored until the device is
switched off at the power switch
POWER 6.

7. iPod / iPhone
The dock 1 is also suitable for an iPhone if
an appropriate dock adapter 10 is used
(number of the adapter in the table: 12 or
15). As a rule these instructions describe
the steps for operating an iPod.
7.1 Docking an iPod
CAUTION:
• Do not exert pressure on the iPod con-
nector in the dock 1. This could dam-
age the iPod connector.
• To dock the iPod, always use a dock
adapter 10 that fits your particular
model. Either use one of the supplied
adapters or the appropriate original
iPod adapter.
• Do not remove the iPod from the
dock 1 when the iPod is switched on.
The supplied dock adapters 10 enable dif-
ferent iPod models to connect to the
dock 1. The following table indicates which
iPod models are connected with which
dock adapters 10.

Inserting a dock adapter
1. Look for your iPod model
in the table
above.
2. The dock adapters 10 are identified by
a number on the bottom. Select the
correct dock adapter 10.
3. Remove the dust guard from the
dock 1.
4. Place the dock adapter 10 onto the
dock 1 as illustrated. Press the dock
adapter 10 on firmly from above. The
dock adapter 10 must lie flush with the
top and sides of the dock 1.
Changing the dock adapter
If you connect another iPod, you may have
to change the dock adapter 10 first.
• Prise the dock adapter 10 carefully out
of the dock 1.

Docking and starting an iPod
There must be a dock adapter 10 already
inserted that fits your iPod model.
1. Place the iPod carefully on the dock
adapter 10. The iPod screen may light
up briefly; the iPod is charging.
2. To switch the device on, press ON/
STAND-BY 40.
3. With MODE 39, select the mode iPod.
The sound from the iPod is played
back over the Soundstation.
4. You can now make all of the settings
(volume, playback etc.) using the re-
mote control or the buttons on the
Soundstation.
Undocking an iPod
1. Switch the iPod off.
2. Carefully lift the iPod up and out of the
dock 1 and place the dust guard on
the dock 1.
7.2 Charging an iPod
The docked iPod is charged automatically
when the Soundstation is connected to the
power supply and is switched on at the
power switch (POWER 6 on ON). The de-
vice does not need to be switched out of
standby mode by pressing ON/STAND-
BY 40 to do this.
The following battery displays may appear
on the iPod screen:
: The iPod battery is fully charged.
: The iPod battery is charging.
7.3 Controlling an iPod
MENU 29 Accesses the menu; press
the button repeatedly:

TIP: The iPod switches off automatically
after a while if you switch to another mode

MODE 39 or if you switch off
the device by pressing ON/STAND-

8. Radio
Press MODE 39 to select the desired
mode RADIO.
Setting a station
You can read the set frequency in the dis-
play.
• Fully unwind the FM antenna 8. Try
various positions in order to improve
the quality of reception.
•Press 4 1 38 / 33 ¢ 28 on
the remote control or ¢ UP 20 /
4 DOWN 21 on the device to set
the desired radio station. Briefly press-
ing the buttons effects a change of
0.05 MHz.
•Press 4 1 38 or 33 ¢ 28 for
approx. 2 seconds to activate the au-
tomatic search. The search stops at

the first station with a sufficiently
strong signal.
Storing a station
You can store up to 20 FM Stations.
1. Select the desired station.
2. Press 38 / MEM 26. A preset number,
e.g. 02 appears in the display.
3. Briefly and repeatedly press /
set 25 / /set 36 to change the
preset number. The preset numbers
are shown in the display.
4. Store the station by pressing 38 /
MEM 26 again.
5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 to store more sta-
tions.
Accessing stored stations
• Remote control: press /set 25 /
/set 36.
• On the device: briefly press SET /
M
15 or SET / M+ 16.
9. Clock
9.1 Setting the clock
TIP:
• If no button is pressed in setting mode
for about 5 seconds, the function is
cancelled.
• The time is displayed in 24-hour for-
mat.
• After a power failure you will need to
reset the clock and alarm time.
To set the time, the device needs to be
switched on at the power switch
(POWER 6 on ON).
1. To switch the device to standby mode,
if necessary, press ON/STANDBY 11.
2. Press TIME SET 12 on the device.
The hours symbol flashes.
3. Press ¢ UP 20 or 4 DOWN 21 to
set the hours and then press TIME
SET 12. The minutes symbol flashes.
4. Now press ¢ UP 20 or 4
DOWN 21 to set the minutes.
5. Press TIME SET 12 to finish inputting
the time.
9.2 Alarm function (alarm
clock)
TIP:
• The time needs to be set correctly be-
fore an alarm can be set.
• If you do not press any button for
about 5 seconds, the function is can-
celled.
• If you wish to wake up to music from
your iPod, it must be inserted in the
dock 1.
Setting the alarm clock
To set the alarm, the device must be
switched to standby mode with ON/
STAND-BY 40.
1. Press /set 36 for about 2 sec-
onds. The symbol for Alarm1 and
the hours symbol flash in the display.
2. Press 4 1 38 or 33 ¢ 28 to
set the hours and then press /
set 36. The minutes symbol flashes.
3. Now press 4 1 38 or
33 ¢ 28 to set the minutes.
4. Press /set 36 to finish inputting
the alarm time.
5. Set the way in which you wish to be
awoken. Briefly and repeatedly press
/set 36 to be awoken by an
alarm tone , iPod or the
radio .
TIP:
• Select the track you wish to wake up
to on the iPod.
• The radio will wake you with the last
selected station.
• When inputting the time, press and
hold 4 1 38 or 33 ¢ 28 to
fast forward/back.

• Once triggered, the alarm becomes
progressively louder.
Switching the alarm clock on and
off
The device must be switched to standby to
switch the alarm clock on and off. The time
is shown in the display.
• Briefly press /set 36. If the sym-
bol for Alarm 1 appears in the dis-
play, the alarm clock is switched on.
• To switch the alarm clock off, briefly
and repeatedly press /set 36
until the symbol for Alarm 1 disap-
pears from the display.
Switching off the alarm
When the alarm sounds at the set time,
you have various options:
•Press 35. The alarm is silenced
and remains activated for the next day.
•Press SNOOZE/DIMMER 30: The
alarm is silenced for 9 minutes and
then sounds again. The symbol for
Alarm 1 flashes and SNOOZE ap-
pears in the display. You can use this
function repeatedly within 60 minutes
after the alarm has been triggered.
• If you do not press any button, the
alarm will be silenced after 60 min-
utes. The alarm function remains acti-
vated for the next day.
Second alarm time
You can set a second alarm time with
/set 25. Proceed as for Alarm 1 and,
instead of /set 36 use /set 25 .

10. Connecting an external
device
You can connect devices such as an MP3
player (earphone jack) or a CD player (Au-
dio Out) to the socket AUX IN 9.
WARNING! Switch off all devices before
connecting them to one another and follow
the instructions for the devices you wish to
connect.
To connect external devices you will re-
quire an audio cable (not included in the
items supplied). One end of the cable must
have a 3.5 mm Ø jack plug for the socket
AUX IN 9. The type of plug that needs to
be at the other end depends on the audio
output of the external device.
1. Using an audio cable, connect the au-
dio output of the external device, e.g.
an MP3 player, to the socket AUX
IN 9.
2. Turn the power switch POWER 6 to
ON.
3. Press ON/STAND-BY 40 to switch
on the Soundstation.
4. For playback, press MODE 39 to se-
lect the function AUX.
5. Then start playback on the connected
device. Playback is controlled on the
external device; the volume can be set
on the Soundstation.
6. Switch off both devices before discon-
necting them again.

11. Cleaning
DANGER! Remove the power
plug 7 from the wall socket before
cleaning the device.
CAUTION: Do not use any astringent or
abrasive cleaning agents.
• Use only a slightly damp, soft cloth to
clean the device.
12. Information on the

The device meets the requirements of Low
Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC, EMC Direc-
tive 2004/108/EC and Ecodesign Directive
2009/125/EC (Regulation 1275/2008).
13. Disposal
The symbol showing a
wheelie bin crossed
through indicates that the
product requires separate
refuse collection in the Eu-
ropean Union. This applies
to the product and all ac-
cessories marked with this symbol. Prod-
ucts identified with this symbol may not be
discarded with normal household waste,
but must be taken to a collection point for
recycling electric and electronic applianc-
es. Recycling helps to reduce the con-
