INTENDED USE

Thedisplayunitsdetailed in this handbookmayformpartofnavigational

radarsystems intendedforlightmarineuse.These displaysandradar

systems are only an aid to navigation.

SAFETY NOTICES

Thisradarequipmentmustbeinstalledandoperatedinaccordancewiththe

instructionscontainedinthismanual.Failuretodosocanresultinpersonal

injuryand/ornavigationalinaccuracies.In particular:

1.HIGH VOLTAGE.The LCDdisplayunit andscanner unitcontain

highvoltages.Adjustmentsrequirespecializedserviceproceduresand

toolsonlyavailableto qualifiedservicetechnicians– thereareno user

serviceableparts or adjustments.The operatorshouldneverremovethe

displayunitcoverorattempttoservicethe equipment.

2.ELECTROMAGNETICENERGY.The radar scannertransmits

electromagneticenergy.Itis importantthattheradaristurnedoffwhenever

personnelarerequiredtocomeclose to thescanner to performwork on the

scannerassemblyor associatedequipment.

Itisrecommendedthattheradarscannerismountedoutofrangeofpersonnel

(abovehead height).

Avoidlookingdirectlyattheantennaasyoureyesarethemostsensitivepartof

thebody to electromagneticenergy.

Whenproperlyinstalledandoperated,theuseofthisradarwillconformtothe

requirementsof ANSI/IEEEC95.1-1992StandardforSafetyLevelswith

RespecttoHumanExposuretoRadioFrequencyElectromagneticFields,3Hz

to300GHzandNRPB,BoardStatementonRestrictionsonHumanExposure

toStaticandTimeVaryingElectromagneticFieldsandRadiation.DocNRPB,

N0.5 (1993).

4.NAVIGATIONAID.Thisunitisonlyanaidtonavigation.Itsaccuracycan

beaffectedbymany factors, includingequipmentfailureordefects,

environmentalconditions,and improperhandlingoruse.Itisthe user’s

• Chartdisplay,Radardisplay:If data is availableas a functionof the

Figure 1-2, or in a half-screenwindow.

• CDI:This gives theCourseDeviationIndicatorgraphicaldisplay,with

datarelatingto the targetwaypoint.

• BDI:ThisgivestheBearingandDistanceIndicatorgraphicaldisplay,with

datarelatingto the targetwaypoint.

• NavData: Thisshowsninedataboxes,providingnavigationaldata in the

unitsspecifiedinyoursetup. Note thatupto6 of thesedataboxesarealso

availableasauser-selectablegroup (see Section 7.3).
