Installation guide

Lenze AC Tech MC series is a variable frequency drive that allows access to the keypad even when the drive is installed inside another enclosure, thanks to its Remote Keypad option. This option includes a Remote Keypad, a Remote Interface Board, and a Connecting Cable. The Remote Keypad option is compatible with MC1000, MC3000, or MCH drives and can be ordered as a factory-installed option. The Remote Keypad option is not compatible with NEMA 4, 4X, or 12 rated drives as installing this option will compromise the integrity of the enclosure. The Remote Keypad option is only intended for NEMA 1 or chassis models that will be installed inside another enclosure.

MC SERIES REMOTE KEYPAD
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1.0 GENERAL
These installation instructions apply to the Remote Keypad option available for the MC Series variable frequency drives.
These components can also be ordered with the drive as a factory installed option. Refer to the MC Series Product
Catalog for more information. The purpose of the Remote Keypad option is to allow access to the keypad when the MC
Series drive is installed inside another enclosure.
Notes
• The Remote Keypad option cannot be used on NEMA 4, 4X, or 12 rated drives, as installing this option will
violate the integrity of the enclosure. It is only meant for NEMA 1 or chassis models that are being installed
inside another enclosure.
• If the Control Board does not have a P8 socket please contact AC Tech. A new control board will need to
be purchased and installed prior to installing the Remote Keypad. Refer to the Control Board diagram on
the next page.
2.0 PARTS LIST
The Remote Keypad option kit includes the following parts:
(1) Remote Keypad: 840-XXX (the part number suffix will differ for MC1000, MC3000, or MCH drives)
(1) Remote Interface Board: 9948-001
(1) Connecting Cable: 2.5 feet = 817-455 5 feet = 817-456 10 feet = 817-457
3.0 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Refer to the diagrams on the next page during this procedure.
DANGER!
Hazard of electric shock! Remove input power from the drive and wait three minutes before attempting this
procedure. DC Bus capacitors retain charge after power is removed.
The internal components of the MC Series drive can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD)! Use an
antistatic wrist strap with the ground clip attached to the drive ground lug when attempting this procedure.
Always place components on antistatic surfaces or in antistatic bags when they are not being handled during
this procedure.
1. Remove the drive cover (if supplied).
2. Remove the keypad assembly using a flat screwdriver to pry the keypad bracket out of the slots in the side of the
enclosure.
3. Unplug the keypad ribbon cable from the PL4 plug on the control board.
4. Remove the LCD display assembly using needle-nose pliers to pinch the top of the nylon standoff at each corner of
the board, while lifting up on the board.
5. Remove the standoffs from the control board by gently and carefully bending them downward until they “pop” out of
the board.
6. Install the Remote Interface Board in the location where the LCD display was removed. Be sure to align the pins on
the bottom of the Remote Interface Board with the P5 and P8 sockets on the control board. Also align the four nylon
standoffs at the corners of the board with the holes in the control board. Push down on the Remote Interface Board
until the standoffs snap into place.
7. Either discard the keypad assembly removed earlier, or peel off the keypad membrane and re-install the bracket. If
the drive cover is to be replaced after this procedure, the bracket will fill in the hole in the cover where the keypad
used to be.
8. Mount the Remote Keypad in the desired location using the cutout diagram on the next page.
9. If it is desired to put the drive cover back on, do it now (be sure to remove the plastic window first), otherwise skip to
step 10. The male socket on the Remote Interface Board should line up with the hole in the cover where the LCD
display used to be.
10. Connect the Remote Keypad to the Remote Interface Board with the connecting cable. Be sure the end of the cable
labeled “DRIVE” is connected to the Remote Interface Board, and that the other end labeled “REMOTE” is connected
to the Remote Keypad. To avoid potential noise problems, be sure to route the cable away
from high voltage wiring.
