Coupling the Acela
Be sure that the couplers and infrared housings on the Acela are properly aligned. Alignment is critical for proper infrared communication from the powered
unit. Without proper alignment, you may experience derailments and loss of features in some of the cars.
Follow these steps to couple the Acela. We recommend coupling the train on straight track sections.
1. Start by placing the powered unit (#2026) on the track.
2. Place the loop coupler on one of the passenger cars over the hook coupler on the powered locomotive.
3. Look down on the infrared housings to be sure that they are in line. The infrared housings swivel to allow for close coupling of the cars.
4. Check the housings from the side. Be sure that they are aligned vertically.
The edge on the side of the infrared transmitter housing will snap over the edge of the receiver housing to maintain alignment during operation. To
test this connection, carefully lift up the receiver housing.
5. Couple the rest of the cars and the non-powered unit (#2029) in the same manner.
Troubleshooting! If you are operating in the TMCC environment and both pantographs raise on the non-powered unit and the doors on one or more passenger cars
open immediately upon power-up, the cars are not receiving infrared communication. Turn off track power and check the alignment of the infrared housings.
