IN TRO DUC TION:There has been a re port of the baf fle re tainer wire chaf ing com po nents of the en gine

af ter sev eral hours of op er a tion. The spi ral wrap to be in stalled by this S.I. is to re duce

the pos si bil ity of this chaf ing.

IN STRUC TIONS:

1. Re move up per and lower cowl ing per Ser vice and Main te nance Man ual # 150, Sec tion 71-10-00.

2. Lo cate the 4 baf fle re tain ers (2 on each side un der the cyl in ders). (See Ref er ence be low).

3. Un-hook the hook end (op po site the spring (loop) end) and let the re tainer hang from baf fle hole

at the spring end.

CAU TION

Be sure the baf fles do not move from their proper lo ca tion dur ing this pro ce dure

4. Wrap T12T (or al ter nate) sprial wrap around each re tainer (one re tainer at a time) from the hook

end to the baf fle near the spring (loop) end of the re tainer (ap prox i mately 17 inches of sprial wrap

re quired on each re tainer).

5. The sprial wrap may have to be par tially wrapped around the re tainer and then slid to ward

the loop end to com pletely cover the re tainer. This par tial wrap ping and slid ing may be nec es -

sary sev eral times to com plete the wrap.

6. Af ter spi ral wrap is ap plied, re-hook each re tainer (hook end) to the baf fle hole from whic h it

came.

7. Check all wraps for com plete cov er age of the re tainer, es pe cially in the ar eas where the re tainer

could chafe an en gine drain tube or other com po nent.

8. If sat is fac tory, re-install lower and up per en gine cowl ing per S & M Sec tion 71-10-00.

9. En ter com pli ance note in air craft log book and re turn air craft to ser vice.

ac tion. S.I. M20-90-1kit will be charged to the Moo ney Ser vice Cen ter at the time of

ship ment. Credit will be given when the prop erly com pleted pa per work is re ceived by

the Ser vice Parts De part ment. La bor al low ance and credit for the kit will be is sued only

if the war ranty ac tion is com pleted within 180 days from the is sue date of this Ser vice
