General

Required Accessories

Two Simplicity 50 lb. wheel weights (one per rear wheel) OR two

50 lb. Simplicity Quick Tach weights and rear weight carrier are

required when using this attachment.

Tire chains and Simplicity Quick Tach weights are recommended

when installing this attachment on your tractor. Quick Tach

weights are an easy way to improve traction and stability making

your snowthrower more efficient. Quick Tach weights are easy

to install and remove, and can be added in 50 lb. increments

(maximum of 300 lbs). To purchase tire chains, Quick Tach

weights, or wheel weights, see your dealer.

For operation on slopes greater than 15% (8.5°), Quick Tach

Weights, tire chains, and wheel weights are recommended. Never

operate on slopes greater than 17.6% (10°).

NOTE: In these instructions, “left” and “right” are

referred to as seen from the operating position.

General

• Read this manual and the tractor Operator’s Manual

carefully. Be thoroughly familiar with the controls and

the proper use of the equipment.

• Never allow children to operate the machine. Do not

allow adults to operate it without proper instruction.

• Do not carry passengers.

• Use only attachments or accessories designed for

your machine. See your dealer for a complete list of

recommended attachments or accessories.

• Keep the area of operation clear of all persons, par-

ticularly small children, and pets.

• Never direct discharge chute towards bystanders.

• Make sure all hardware is secure and that

snowthrower is in good operating condition.

• Check to be sure all safety devices and shields are in

place.

• Check that all adjustments are correct before using

this unit.

• Gasoline is highly flammable. Follow all precautions

listed in your tractor’s operator’s manual.

• Always wear eye protection while operating and per-

forming adjustments to protect eyes from debris

thrown by the snowthrower.

• When cleaning, repairing, or inspecting the unit make

sure all moving parts have stopped. Disconnect and

secure the spark plug wire and remove the key to

prevent accidental starting.

Safety Rules

Read these safety rules, and the safety rules in your tractor Operator’s Manual, and follow them

closely. Failure to obey these rules could result in loss of control of vehicle, severe personal injury

to yourself, or damage to property or equipment. The triangle in the text signifies important cau-

tions or warnings which must be followed.

WARNING

If the auger stalls or the chute plugs, disengage the

electric clutch (PTO), stop the engine and remove the

key. set the parking brake. wait for moving parts to

stop. Remove the foreign object or clear the chute with

a piece of wood before restarting the engine. Never

place hands into blower housing to clear jammed

object. Auger may rotate when object is removed.

WARNING

For operation on slopes greater than 15% (8.5°),

weight box, tire chains and wheel weights are recom-

mended. Never operate on slopes greater than 30%

(16.7°).

Preparation

• Disengage the PTO before making any adjustments.

• Never attempt to make any adjustments while engine

is running.

• Thoroughly inspect the area where the snowthrower

is to be operated and remove all foreign objects.

• Adjust the skid shoe height to clear gravel or crushed

stone surface. See the Adjustments section for pro-

cedure.

Operation

• Always clear snow up and down the face of slopes,

never across the face. Exercise extreme caution

when changing direction on slopes. Do not attempt to

clear steep slopes.

• Exercise extreme caution when operating on, or

crossing, gravel drives, walks or roads. Stay alert for

hidden hazards or traffic.

• After striking an object or if unit starts to vibrate

abnormally, stop the engine, disengage the PTO, and

remove the key. Check for the cause and any dam-

age before restarting. Before any inspection, make

sure all moving parts have stopped.

• Take all possible precautions before leaving opera-

tor’s position. Disengage the PTO, lower the attach-

ment, set the parking brake, stop the engine and

remove the key.

• Never operate the snowthrower near glass enclo-

sures, automobiles, window wells, dropoffs, etc.

• Do not put hands or feet near or under rotating parts.

Keep clear of discharge opening at all times.

• Do not overload machine capacity by attempting to

clear snow at too fast a rate.

• Never operate unit at high transport speeds on slip-

pery surfaces. Use care when travelling in reverse.

• Disengage power to snowthrower when transporting

or not in use.

• Never operate the snowthrower without good visibility

or light. Always be sure your feet are properly placed

on the footrests and keep a firm hold on the steering

wheel.

• Do not run the engine indoors.

• Never direct the discharge at bystanders or allow

anyone in front of the unit.

Read and understand the instructions in your tractor

Operator’s Manual.

Refer to Figure 1 for control locations.

A. ELECTRIC CHUTE ROTATOR

Rotates the chute right and left.

B. PTO SWITCH

Engages and disengages the snowthrower.

C. ATTACHMENT LIFT

Raises and lowers the snowthrower for transport.

D. REMOTE DEFLECTOR CONTROL

Sets and locks in the angle of the chute deflector.

E. THROTTLE

Sets engine speed. Always use FULL throttle.

Checks Before Starting

1. Refer to the Maintenance & Adjustments section of

this manual and perform any needed service. Also,

refer to the tractor Operator’s Manual and perform

any required service.

2. Remove any objects from the work area which might

be caught in, or thrown by, the auger.

3. Before starting the engine, clear the auger of any ice

which may cause damage to the unit.

4. Adjust the deflector and skid shoes to desired height.

See Skid Shoe Adjustment.

5. Make sure all hardware is present and secure.

WARNING

• Never operate on slopes greater than 17.6%

(10°), which is a rise of 3-1/2 feet (106cm) verti-

cally in 20 feet (607cm) horizontally.

• When operating on slopes greater than 15%

(8.5°), one wheel weight on each rear wheel and

tire chains are recommended.

• Select slow ground speed before driving onto a

slope. Avoid using brakes to control speed.

• Drive up and down the face of the slopes, never

across the slope face.

• Use caution when changing directions and DO

NOT START OR STOP ON A SLOPE.

WARNING

Perform the Safety System Interlock test found in

your tractor Operator’s Manual. If tractor does not

pass the test, do not operate the tractor. See your

authorized dealer. Under no circumstances should

you attempt to defeat the safety system.

Operating On Slopes

Operation

Transporting

1. Disengage the electric clutch and then raise the

snowthrower.

2. Adjust ground speed according to surface conditions.

3. Select a low ground speed when transporting on a

slippery surface.

Engine & Ground Speed Selection

Always run the engine at full throttle.

Normally, a low ground speed is best for throwing snow.

The deeper or heavier the snow, the slower the recom-

mended ground speed.

Starting & Stopping

1. Start the tractor engine. Set engine throttle at 1/2

speed.

2. Lower the snowthrower.

3. Engage the electric clutch switch. Snowthrower auger

should rotate. Disengage the electric clutch switch.

4. Adjust the engine speed to full speed. Select the

proper ground speed.

5. To stop the tractor, depress the clutch/brake pedal.

To stop the snowthrower, disengage the electric

clutch. Before leaving the seat, stop the engine, dis-

engage the electric clutch, set the parking brake,

remove the key, and wait for all moving parts to stop.

Snow Removal Suggestions

• Determine the best snow removal pattern before

beginning.

• Wind direction is an important factor to consider.

Rotate the spout to discharge snow downwind.

• Plan the pattern so that you avoid throwing snow on

cleared areas and on yourself as you are operating.

• When land contour permits, it is best to travel in the

longest direction to minimize turning.

• In very deep or heavy snow, it may be necessary to

make the first pass with snowthrower partially raised,

backing up every few feet to clear the snow left on

the surface. Also, it may be necessary to slice off less

than the full width of the auger or reduce ground

speed.

• If snow stops flowing freely from the spout, back

away until the snowthrower clears itself.

CAUTION

Always raise the snowthrower before turning or

backing up, to prevent damage to the unit.

WARNING

If auger does not start and stop when

engaging/disengaging electric clutch, see your

authorized dealer. Under no circumstances should

you attempt to defeat the safety system.

WARNING

If the auger stalls or the chute plugs, DISENGAGE

THE ELECTRIC CLUTCH, STOP THE ENGINE AND

REMOVE THE KEY. SET THE PARKING BRAKE.

WAIT FOR MOVING PARTS TO STOP. Remove the

foreign object or clear the spout with a piece of

wood before restarting the engine. Never place

hands into auger housing or spout to clear

jammed object. Auger may rotate when object is

removed.

Daily Storage

1. Run the snowthrower a few minutes after blowing

snow to prevent freeze-up of auger.

2. Allow tractor engine to cool before storing in any

enclosure.

Off-Season Storage

1. Remove snowthrower from the tractor. Hitch can

remain installed if other attachments are to be used.

2. Use water pressure or a brush to thoroughly clean

the housing.

3. Paint, or lightly coat with oil, any area where paint

has been worn or chipped away.

4. Lubricate the snowthrower.

5. Store the snowthrower and hitch in a dry place.

WARNING

To prevent an explosion or fire, never store the

tractor with fuel in the tank inside a building where

an ignition source is present.

WARNING

To avoid serious injury, perform maintenance on

the tractor or snowthrower only when the engine is

stopped, parking brake is set and all moving parts

have stopped. Always remove the ignition key

before beginning maintenance or adjustments to

prevent accidental starting of the engine.

Lubricate Snowthrower

MAINTENANCE

In general, linkage connections and other parts that have

partial rotational or sliding movement should be lubricat-

ed periodically with SAE 30 weight oil. Avoid applying

excessive amounts of oil or grease since this may cause

a build-up of dirt around the lubricated area, making sub-

sequent lubrication more difficult to accomplish.

Lubricate Discharge Chute

See Figure 2. Lubricate the ring gear at the base of the

discharge chute with lithium grease. Lubricate the

deflector hinge, extension linkage, and cable with oil.

Drive Shaft Lubrication

See Figure 3. Lubricate the universal joints at both ends

of the snowthrower drive shaft with lithium grease. Also

lubricate the grease zerk in the middle of the shaft.

Lubricate Auger Shaft

See Figure 4. Lubricate the grease zerks on the auger

shaft (C) with automotive lithium grease.

Check Auger Gearbox Oil Level

Check auger gearbox oil level every 25 hours:

1. Park tractor on level surface.

2. Lower snowthrower.

3. Stop engine, lock parking brake, and remove key.

4. See Figure 4. Remove check plug (A).

5. Level of oil should be even with check plug. If low,

remove fill plug (B), add Simplicity Winter Weight

Worm Gear Oil.

6. Install and tighten both check and fill plugs.

Lubricate Drive Chain

Lubricate the drive chain with lithium grease every 25

hours:

1. Remove the plastic plug from the top of the chain

case.

2. Smear grease on the exposed drive chain working

the grease into the links.

3. Rotate the input shaft and grease the next exposed

section of chain. Repeat until the entire drive chain is

lubricated. Replace the plastic plug.

Inspect Scraper Bar

1. Raise snowthrower to highest position.

2. Use safety block(s) to secure snowthrower:

a. Place safety block under attachment.

b. Lower attachment until it rests on block(s).

3. Inspect location where scraper bar (A, Figure 6)

meets snowthrower housing.

Reversing Scraper Bar

1. Raise blower to highest position.

2. Use safety blocks to secure blower.

a. Raise attachment to top height.

b. Place safety blocks under attachment.

c. Lower attachment until it rests on blocks.

3. Using 1/2" wrench remove six nuts, washers, and

bolts (B, Figure 6).

4. Remove scraper bar (A).

5. Reverse or replace scraper bar.

6. Replace the six bolts, washers, nuts and tighten.

Shear Bolts

Refer to Figure 7 for discharge fan shear bolt (grade 5

hardness, 5/16-18 x 7/8”"). Refer to Figure 8 for auger

shear bolt (one in each auger-specialized, grade 5 hard-

ness, 5/16-18 x 2-1/2").

Check for excessive wear. The shear bolt will break if

the auger or fan hits a solid object. If this happens:

1. Stop the snowthrower and tractor immediately.

2. Stop the engine, lock the parking brake, and remove

the key.

3. Remove the broken shear bolt.

4. Install a new shear bolt. Make sure the replacement

shear bolt is Grade 5 hardness.

5. Locate and correct the cause of the shearing.

ADJUSTMENTS

Skid Shoe Adjustment

On smooth surfaces such as concrete or asphalt, the

scraper bar should scrape the surface. On surfaces

such as gravel, the scraper bar should be set high

enough so that it will not pick up debris.

1. Loosen the nuts securing the skid shoes (see

Figure 9).

2. Raise or lower the scraper bar to the desired height.

Use wood blocks to hold the snowthrower in position.

3. Set the skid shoes so that they are in contact with the

ground and tighten the skid shoe nuts (Figure 9).

Lift Height Adjustment

CHECK LIFT HEIGHT

1. Raise the attachment lift to its highest position.

There should be a slight clearance between back of

hitch and tractor stops. This will prevent the

hydraulic pump from working against stops when

snowthrower is fully raised. You should be able to

raise up on the hitch by hand one to two inches

before upward movement is stopped by tractor.

ADJUST LIFT HEIGHT:

1. Fully raise the attachment lift and shut off the engine.

Set the parking brake and remove the key.

2. Loosen the nuts (C, Figure 10).

3. Turn the lift height bolts (D) until the snowthrower is

at the desired height and level.

4. Hold the lift height bolts (D) in position and lock in

place with the nuts (C).

Make sure that hitch cannot be lifted to a height

where the PTO drive shaft can contact the bottom of

the tractor hood

Downward Pressure Adjustment

1. Raise the lift until the the springs are not being com-

pressed (lift blade apx. 1” off ground). Shut off the

engine, set the parking brake, remove the key, and

support the attachment with wood blocks.

2. Loosen the nuts (E, Figure 10) until the springs are

loose, then tighten the nuts until the springs are com-

pressed 1/4”.

Do not over-compress the springs. In addition to pro-

viding downward pressure, the spring is an elastic

medium that absorbs shocks caused by bumps and

cracks in ground surfaces. Over-compressing the

spring defeats this and could cause damage to the

unit.

CAUTION

Do not over-compress the lift spring. In addition to

providing downward pressure, the spring is an elas-

tic medium that absorbs shocks caused by bumps

and cracks in ground surfaces. Over-compressing

the spring defeats this and could cause damage to

the unit.

INITIAL INSTALLATION

NOTE: Once installed, the front and rear hitch mounting

brackets need not be removed.

Install Front Hitch Mounting Brackets

1. See Figure 11. Attach the front hitch mounting brack-

ets (A) to the pre-drilled holes in the frame using the

5/16-18 x 1-1/4” capscrews, lockwashers, and nuts

provided.

Install Rear Hitch Mounting Brackets

1. See Figure 12. Remove the front four capscrews and

lockwashers securing the drawbar to the transmis-

sion.

2. See Figure 13. Attach the rear hitch brackets (A) to

the drawbar and transmission with the 5/8-11 x 2””

capscrews (C) and lockwashers (B) provided.

NOTE: During initial installation do not tighten the cap-

screws (C, Figure 13) securing the rear hitch mounting

brackets until the attachment is completely installed.

Install Attachment Lift Extension

NOTE: The attachment lift extension must be removed

when using mower.

1. See Figure 14. Install the attachment lift extension

(B) on the left attachment lift arm (A) using two 3/8-16

x 1” carriage bolts (C), lockwashers, and nuts as

shown.

Initial Installation

Assemble Ladder Hitch

1. Attach the hanger brackets (A, Figure 15) to the hitch

assembly (F) using 3/8-16 x 1” capscrews and nylock

nuts (B). Do not torque the nuts. The hanger brack-

ets (A) should be able to pivot freely.

2. Attach the lift rod (C, Figure 15) to the hitch lift arm

(D) using one 1/2” x 2” flat head clevis pin and safety

clip (E).

1. Locate the discharge chute (A, Figure 16), three hold-

down plates (C), and plastite screws (B).

2. Coat the top and bottom of the chute ring with

grease.

3. Install the discharge chute onto the chute ring, facing

it straight forward over the auger housing, and secure

it using the hold-down plates (C) and plastite screws

(B). Be careful not to over-tighten the screws.

Rotate Auger Blades

1. See Figure 17. Remove either the left or right shear

bolt then orient the auger blades as shown. Reinstall

the shear bolt.

Attach Snowthrower Lift Arm

1. See Figure 18. Assemble the snowthrower lift arm

(A) to the snowthrower hitch (B) using two 1/2-13 x 1-

3/4” capscrews, lockwashers, and nuts. Insert the

capscrews from left to right in the holes shown.

Holes

Attach Drive Shalt to Drive Chain Box

1. Grease the drive shaft coupler and chain box input

shaft.

2. Install the key (A, Figure 19) into the input shaft key-

way.

3. Attach the drive shaft to the input shaft (see Figure

19).

4. Secure the drive shaft using a 1/4-20 x 1-7/8” cap-

screw (D) and center-lock nut (B).

NOTE. The 1/4-20 x 1-7/8 capscrew supplied in the

hardware bag has been ground to exactly 1-7/8 length

for this purpose and is required for correct drive shaft

clearance.

5. Secure the key with an hex socket set screw (C).

Secure Cables

MOUNT CABLE GUIDE

1. Using the 5/16-18 x 1 capscrew (C, Figure 20), lock-

washer, and nut (D) provided and the 5/16-18 x 5/8

taptite screw (B) securing the rotator motor mount

bracket, secure the cable guide (A) to the snowthrow-

er assembly as shown.

NOTE. Perform the following procedure after the

snowthrower is completely installed for the first time.

1. Using the template included in the back of this manu-

al, drill two 9/32” holes in the dashboard to mount the

remote deflector control bracket (C, Figure 21). See

template at the back of this book for instructions.

SECURE REMOTE DEFLECTOR CONTROL CABLE

NOTE. Perform the following procedure after the

snowthrower is completely installed for the first time.

1. Insert the deflector control handle (B, Figure 21) into

the mounting bracket (C).

2. Route the remote deflector control cable and spout

rotator motor wires through the cable guide (Figure

22).

3. Secure the handle (B, Figure 21) using a clevis pin

(A) and hair pin clip (D).

SECURE SPOUT ROTATOR WIRE HARNESS

NOTE. Perform the following procedure after the

snowthrower is completely installed for the first time.

1. Secure the spout rotator wire harness to the remote

deflector control cable as shown in Figure 22 using

three cable ties.

Ladder Hitch Installation

LADDER HITCH INSTALLATION

Install Ladder Hitch Onto Tractor

1. Slide the ladder hitch and lift rod assembly under the

tractor.

2. See Figure 23. Attach the rear end of the ladder

hitch (B) the to the rear hitch brackets (A) using clevis

pins (C) and safety clips.

3. See Figure 24. Attach the front end of the ladder

hitch (D) to the front hitch brackets (G) using clevis

pins (A) and safety clips (B).

Install Lift Rod

1. See Figure 24. Attach the lift rod (F) to the hitch lift

arm (E) using a clevis pin and safety clip.

2. Attach the lift rod (F, Figure 24) to the attachment lift

extension (H) using a clevis pin (A) and safety clip

(C). NOTE: On later models a welded pin is used to

connect lift extension (H) and lift rod (F) together.

Snowthrower Installation

SNOWTHROWER INSTALLATION

1. Install the lift arm extension if not already done (see

Install Attachment Lift Extension under INITIAL

ASSEMBLY for instructions).

2. Fully lower the attachment lift.

3. See Figure 25. Separate the snowthrower and hitch

by pulling the shot pins (A) back and locking them.

Then separate the snowthrower from the hitch.

4. See Figure 26. Attach the snowthrower hitch to the

ladder hitch by resting the snowthrower hitch pins (A)

on the front attachment hooks (C).

5. Install the four clevis pins (B, Figure 26) and secure

with safety clips.

6. See Figure 24. Attach the snowthrower lift rod (B) to

the hitch lift arm (E) using a clevis pin and safety clip.

7. See Figure 25. Place snowthrower shot pins (A) in

released position (shot pins shown in Figure 21 are in

locked position).

8. Make sure that PTO shaft is aligned with reduction

box input shaft. This is done to prevent PTO shaft

from interfering with connection point and to help

align the shaft for hookup.

9. Lower hitch so it is positioned just above the ground

(1/4 to 1/2 inch off the ground)

10. See Figure 25. Slowly roll tractor toward snowthrow-

er, while aligning pivot plate (B) with hitch adapter

plate (C) of snowthrower.

11. See Figure 25. Slowly push tractor toward

snowthrower until pivot plate (B) makes contact with

the hitch plate (C) of snowthrower.

12. Bring tractor to stop and slowly raise hitch until top lip

of pivot plate slides into groove of back plate and

shot pins (A, Figure 25) slide into place.

13. Stop engine, lock parking brake and remove key.

14. Check that snowthrower's shot pins (A, Figure 25)

are fully seated into pivot plate. If pins are not yet

seated, seat pins.

15. See Figure 27. Attach the drive shaft. Pull back on

the locking collar (A) and slide the drive shaft fully

onto the snowthrower. Release the locking collar and

pull back on the drive shaft until the locking collar

locks onto the shaft.

NOTE: At this point during initial installation tighten the

capscrews (C, Figure 13) securing the rear hitch mount-

ing brackets. This is only necessary when installing the

attachment for the first time.

16. See Figure 28. Attach the electric chute rotator to the

tractor attachment plug.

17. See Figure 29. Insert the deflector control handle (B)

into the mounting bracket (C).

Route the remote deflector control cable and spout

rotator motor wires through the cable guide (Figure

30).

Secure the handle (B, Figure 29) using a clevis pin

(A) and hair pin clip (D).

NOTE: If the mounting holes have not been drilled in the

dashboard see Drill Remote Deflector Control Mounting

Holes under INITIAL INSTALLATION.

ALL MODELS

18. Lubricate the snowthrower as shown in the

Maintenance section.

19. Perform all adjustments as shown in the Adjustments

section.
