Safety Warnings
The procedures in this manual a re intended for use only by qualified service technicians who have been trained and authorized by
BARCO !
Switch the projector to stand by and let it cool down for at least 15 minutes before starting with the lamp replacement.
These lamps
consist of a quartz arc tub e operating at very high temperature and high pressure which may explode suddenly. There is a risk of
personal injury and property damage fro m h ot quar tz arc tube particles if handled incorrectly.
Power down the projector and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Once the projector is cooled down and the power is off,
continue with the replacement procedure.
Do not exceed the indicated maximum total lifetime of the lamp for safe operation in normal power mode. Do not use it longer !
Always replace the lamp with the BARCO lamp kit for 6500 projectors.
Mercury Vapor Warnings
Keep the following warnings in mind when using the projector. The lamp used in the projector contains mercury. In case of a lamp
rupture, explosion there will be a mercury va por emission. In order to minimize the potential risk of inhaling mercury vapors:
Ensure the projector is insta lled only in ventilated rooms.
Replace the lamp mod ule before the end of its operational life.
Promptly ventilate the room after a lamp rupture , explosion has occurred, evacuate the room (particularly in case of a pregnant
woman).
In case of an explosion leave the projection room as soon as possible to avoid inhalation of toxic mercury vapors
Seek medical attentio n if unusual health conditions occur after a lamp rupture, explosion, such a s headache, fatigue, shortness
of breath, chest-tightening coughing or nausea.
1.2 Recycling guidelines
WARNING: Do notbreak or crush lam ps because this may pose health and environmental risks whe n mercury
vapors are released.
CAUTION: To avoid breaking the lamp s, repack carefully when storing and transporting them.
CAUTION: La mps may not be disposed as normal household trash.
Contact your local waste dispos al facility fo r in formation on the recycling program for HID (High Intensity
Discharge ) lamps in yo ur area.

Universal Lamp for 6500, 6400i & SIM6 HB projectors.
This lamp is designed to be used in two different configurations of the projector:
table m o unt
ceiling mount
The mech anical design allows to shift the lamp unit by means of two adjustments, hereby insuring the best optical perf ormances of
the lamp in both projector configurations.

3.1 Removing the protection cover
What has to be done ?
The lamp house door has to be opened and removed.
The lamp protection cover has to be removed.
WARNING: Make su re that the projector is turned o ff ! Never open the lamp hous e when the projecto r is on!
Necessary tools
flat screwdriver of 5 mm
How to remove the lamp door ?
1. Turn with a screwdriver the door lock screw a q uarter turn counter clockwise. (image 3-1)
2. Open the door a little.
3. Unhook the door from its fixing points. (image 3-2)

How to remove the protection cover
1. Loosen wi
th a screwdriver the 3 indicated bolts. (image 3-3)
2. Pivote th e plate a little downwards. (image 3-4)
3. Take out the protection c over.

CAUTION: Hot surface !
Do not touch the fan blades.
High pressure lamp may explode if improperly h andled. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel.

4.1 Extracting the lamp unit
Necessary tools
No tools.
How to remove the lamp unit ?
1. Slide the lamp unit backwards. (image 4-1)
2. Take the sides of the lamp connector between thumb and finger.
3. Unlock the connector by pushing at the same time on both lock parts and separate the connectors.
4. Extract the lamp from the housing and put it on a table.

5.1 Installing
What has to be done ?
a) the lamp has to be adjusted according to the mounting configuration of the projector
b) the lamp has to be placed in the p rojector housing and has to be connected
CAUTION: Do not touch the front lamp glass with your fingers since this can reduce the light output of the
lamp !
If the glass is touched, finger prints can be removed by cle a ning th e lam p w ith alcohol.
Necessary tools
flat screwdriver 5mm
Phillips screwdriver 3 mm
Adjusting the lamp
1. Place the metallic plate as shown on the figures depending on the mounting configuration. (image 5-1, image 5-2)
To p lace the lamp in the table position, slide the metallic plate as shown on the following figure (image 5-3)
2. Adjust the lamp by loosening the 2 screws (2 arrows on image) and placing the lamp acco rding to the desired configuration ( see
screening on lamp). (image 5-4, image 5-5)
3. Tighten the 2 screws to secure the position.

Placing and connecting the lamp
1. Place the lamp in th e housing (as shown on the image).
2. Connect the connector at the lamp side into the connector at the pow er side. (image 5-6)
3. Slide the lamp unit in the lamp h ouse until the ref. holes in th e bottom part of the lamp unit matches the ref. pins on the projector
frame. Push the lamp power cable on its place as shown on the image. (image 5-7)

2. Secure the position of the cover with the 3 indicated bolts. (image 6-2)
