ProductNews
10 Mar 2006
As already announced in the ProductNews from 12 Jan 2006, a USB based
keyboard and a new keyboard/mouse extension is being added to the
product portfolio of TransForm A.
Release note
TransForm A – USB based keyboard & mouse
Technical description
The switch is driven by USB to be the standard technology for interfacing input devices to
PCs. The replacement of PS/2 devices by USB devices is backed by the fact that operating
systems like Windows NT and old mainboards, which did not support USB, have disappeared
from the market for a sufficient period of time.
While the optical mouse currently offered for T
RANSFORM A is already a USB&PS/2 combo
device supporting PS/2 through an adapter plug, the keyboard and the keyboard/mouse
extension have to become replaced by all USB devices.
The new keyboard is a Barco-branded version of a widely proven, high quality Cherry G81
keyboard. In most of the T
RANSFORM A standard installations, this keyboard and the optical
mouse get connected to the T
RANSFORM A PROCESSOR through the new USB extender.
Alternatively of course the keyboard and mouse can also be connected directly to the
T
RANSFORM A PROCESSOR.
The USB extender mainly consists of a Local Extension Box (LEX) and a Remote Extension
Box (REX). The Local Extension Box is connected locally to the T
RANSFORM A PROCESSOR
through a short USB cable, while the Remote Extension Box with its two USB interfaces is
located close to the keyboard and the mouse. REX and LEX are interconnected by means of a
standard CAT5 network cable of up to 50m length. Standard length is 20m.
