GENERAL WARNINGS
GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
All grounded, cord-connected tools:
-This automatic sharpener is equipped with an electric cord having an equipment-grounding
conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into a matching outlet that is
properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
Grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric
shock in the event of a malfunction or breakdown.
-DO NOT modify the plug provided. If it does not fit the outlet, have the proper outlet
installed by a qualified electrician.
-Risk of electric shock will result from an improper connection of the equipment-grounding
conductor. The conductor with insulation is the equipment-grounding conductor. If repair or
replacement of the electric cord or plug is necessary, do not connect the
equipment-grounding conductor to a live terminal.
-If grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if in doubt as to whether the
automatic sharpener is properly grounded, consult with a qualified electrician or service
personnel.
-ONLY use 3-wire extension cords that have 3-prong grounding plugs and 3-pole receptacles
that accept the automatic sharpener’s plug.
Grounded, cord-connected tools intend for use on a supply circuit having a nominal rating less
than 150 V:
-This automatic sharpener is intended for use on a circuit that has a 3-pole, grounded outlet. A
temporary adapter may be used to connect this plug to a 2-pole receptacle if a properly
grounded outlet is not available. The temporary adapter should be used only until a properly
grounded outlet can be installed by a qualified electrician.

SET-UP
1. Determine how many cutter teeth are on your chainsaw chain by counting the cutter teeth.
2. Select the number of teeth on your chain by momentarily pressing the “+” or “-“ buttons until
the display shows the correct number of cutter teeth.
3. Put the Chain onto the Automatic sharpener, and place the drive link into circular arc chain
guide with cutter top blade sharp edge facing grinding wheel and away from operator. DO
NOT START THE SHARPENER AT THIS TIME. Severe damage could occur.
4. The angle of the grinding wheel can be changed by adjusting the two set screws in the
grinding head. See Figure 1. Proper angles can be found using chart on Page 8.
5. To assure that the grinding wheel and first cutting tooth are aligned properly, Press “RESET”
button once. Wait until the 5 dash lines (----) quit flashing and the cutter tooth number is on the
display. Now press and hold the “-“ button until the chain has advanced one position.
6. Check to see if the grinding wheel is at the same angle as the cutter tooth. (Cutting teeth
alternate sides of chain and point in opposite directions) If Not repeat step 5. If it is, press and
hold the “+” button. The grinding wheel head will come down. Release the “+” button when the
grinding wheel is lowered against the cutting edge.
7. With the grinding wheel now in the lowered position, determine if the cutter tooth needs to be
advanced towards grinding wheel or moved away from the grinding wheel.
8. Turn “LENGTH” knob clockwise to move the cutter tooth towards grinding wheel,
counterclockwise to move away from grinding wheel. NOTE: You may have to cycle the
advance arm clockwise or counterclockwise numerous times to set cutter tooth to
grinding wheel in proper position.
9. Repeat steps 5, 6, 7, & 8 until the grinding wheel just touches the cutter tooth. Back off length
knob one-quarter turn counter-clockwise.
10. The depth adjustment knob is located behind the grinding wheel head; this is used to adjust
the depth the grinding wheel lowers onto the cutter tooth. This may need to be adjusted while
setting up sharpener. (DO NOT ALLOW GRINDING WHEEL TO MAKE CONTACT WITH
ANY PART OF CHAIN EXCEPT FOR CUTTING EDGE ON TOOTH)
11. The pitch knob determines how far the advance arm stops behind cutter tooth in the retracted

GRINDING WHEEL CHECK
Check the wheel you are about to use for damage prior to installation. To avoid injuries and
accidents only use grinding wheels that are free of defects.
1. Insert a pencil horizontally through the hole and allow the wheel to swing freely.
2. Carefully tap the wheel edge with another pencil. This wheel should give a clear, high pitch
sound. If the sound is dampened or blank, the wheel is defective and should not be used.
3. Do not force the grinding wheel onto the hub.
4. The central bore diameter should not be changed.
5. Only use grinding wheels designed for this sharpener.
6. No adjustments should be attempted until the machine is switched off AND unplugged.
A dull or dampened sound indicates damage by cracks in the wheel.
DAMAGED WHEELS SHOULD NEVER BE USED!
GRINDING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
1. To avoid damage to the wheel, Do not over tighten screws.
2. The grinding wheel guard must be in place and tightened securely.
3. After installing the wheel, run the machine to ensure that the wheel is not vibrating or spinning
incorrectly. If it is, quickly turn off the machine and unplug the power cord before attempting to
correct the fault.
OPERATION
1. Enter the number of cutter teeth on the chain to be sharpened by pressing the “+” or
“–“ button.
2. Press the “START” button. The automatic sharpener will automatically start cycling the chain
advance arm to determine the pitch of chain and the angle the grinding head needs to be at
when starting first cutter tooth.
3. The automatic sharpener grinding wheel will start up after it has determined the correct pitch
of chain and which angle the grinding head needs to be at.
4. Adjust the “LENGTH” knob so that the grinding wheel just touches the cutter tooth. This may
take a few cutter teeth of chain to do. When grinding wheel is touching the cutter tooth you
may want to stop the automatic cycle and start cycle over as the sharpener counts down on
the number of cutter teeth that it has sharpened until it gets to zero, then it shuts off
automatically.
5. The sharpener can be shut off at any time by pushing the “RESET” button.
