GAS CONVERSION INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING
This conversion kit is to be installed by an Empire Comfort Systems, Inc., distributor (or other
qualied agency¹)* in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and all codes and
requirements of the authority having jurisdiction. Failure to follow instructions could result
in serious injury or property damage. The qualied agency performing this work assumes
responsibility for this conversion.

*The term “qualied agency” means any individual, rm, corporation or company which either
in person or through a representative is engaged in and is responsible for (a) the installation
of gas piping or (b) the connection, installation repair, or servicing of equipment, who is
experienced in such work, familiar with all precautions required, and has complied with all the
requirements of the authority having jurisdiction.
CHECK THE SAFETY SHUTDOWN PERFORMANCE
WARNING
Perform the safety shutdown test any time work is done on a gas system to avoid the possibility
of re or explosion with property damage, personal injury or loss of life.
CHECK SAFETY SHUTDOWN SYSTEM
Intermittent Pilot System
1. Switch main switch to “OFF” position. Main burner and pilot should go off.
2. Pilotgasowshouldstopwithin30seconds.
3. Relightpilotburnerandoperatesystemthroughonecompletecycletomakesureallcontrolsoperateproperly.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONVERSION
1. Ifthereplaceisinstalled,turnOFFgasandelectric
supplytoreplacebeforemakinggasconversion.
2. Removebottompanel,grasppanel,liftandpullforward.
3. Releasetwoglassframespringclampsatbottomof
rebox.
4. Removeglassframeassembly.
5. Removelogsfromburnerassembly.
6. Ifapplicable,removelogsandliners.
7. Remove(2)10x1/2"screwsfromrearlogsupport.
Removelogsupport.
8. Removefour(4)10x1/2"screwsfromeachburner
(2).Graspeachburnerassembly(2),liftandpulltothe
righttoremoveburnerassembly.
9. Usea3/8"and1/2"wrenchtoremoveburnerorices.
10. RemoveNaturalgasmainburneroricesfromorice
ttings.

1. InstallPropanegasmainburneroriceintooricetting:
forDVCX36useoriceMARKED 58 for the FRONT
and 1.45 mm for the REAR
forDVCX42useoriceMARKED 57 for the FRONT
and 1.45 mm for the REAR
12. Disconnect the gas line from the pilot to gain access to
the pilot injector.

RemoveNaturalgaspilotinjectororicefrompilotburner.
14. Insert Appropriate Propane Gas pilot injector
oriceintopilotburnerusingthe5/32"hexwrench.
15. Re-installpilothoodtopilotassembly.Pushdownward
to snap in place.
16. ConvertthegasvalveasinstructedinS.I.T. Propane
Gas Valve Conversion Kit.
17. Alignburnerassemblywiththeairshutterasyouplace
burnerassemblyintotheoriginalpositioninrebox.
18. AdjustairshuttersettingtoFULL Open on all models.
19. Attacheachburnerassembly(2)withfour10x1/2"
screwsfromStep8.
20. Attachrearlogsupportwith(2)10x1/2"screwsfrom
Step7.
21. Theconvertedreplacemustbeconnectedtoasupply
oftheconversiongasandcheckedforleaksatall
connections.
22. RefertoLiner,LogandEmberPlacementinyour
Installation Instructions.
23. Thereplacemustbecheckedtoensureitisoperating
atthecorrectpressureof10.0"w.c.
24. Replaceglassframeontorebox.
25. Securethetwoglassframespringclampsatbottomof
reboxtosecureglassdoorassembly.
26. Replacebottompanel.
27. Gasconversioniscompleted.
Themainburnerameandpilotburneramemustbe
checkedforproperamecharacteristics,asoutlinedinthe
Installation Instructions and Owner’s Manual.
VERIFYING INPUT RATE OF CONVERTED FIREPLACE
Theinputofthereplacemustbecheckedasfollows:
1. Turnoffallothergasappliances.Clockthegasmeter
and determine the number of seconds required to
consume one cubic foot of gas.
2. 3600÷time(inseconds)=cu.Ft.perhour.
3. Thencu.Ft.perhourxheatingvalueofgas=input
rate(Btuh).Oninstallationwithoutgasmeters,check
manifold for proper pressure.
Ifreplaceisnotinstalledorwarrantycardhasnotbeen
returnedtoEmpireComfortSystems,Inc.,checkofftype
ofgasconvertedtooncard.Also,indicateconversionby
adding“Conv.”behindtypeofgas.

(2).Saisirchaqueensembledebrûleur(2),lesoulever
et le tirer vers la droite pour extraire l’ensemble du
brûleur.
9. Utiliserunecléde3/8poetde1/2popourretirerles
oricesdebrûleur.

l’ensemble veilleuse. Pousser vers l’avant pour
l’enclencher.
16. Convertirlasoupapedegaztelquementionnédans
le Nécessaire de conversion de soupape au Gaz
Propane S.I.T.
17. Alignerl’ensembledebrûleuravecl’obturateurd’air
lorsdelamiseenplacedubrûleurdanssaposition
d’origine dans la chambre de combustion.
