Cleaning & High Level Disinfecting Instructions
for Bionix® OtoClear® Ear Irrigation System
CLEANING THE BIONIX OTOCLEAR EAR IRRIGATION SYSTEM
It is recommended to clean the Bionix Ear Irrigation System daily following
the procedure below.
01. Unplug the Portable Electronic Irrigator from its charging cord.
02. Prepare a solution of dishwashing liquid and water.
03. Ensure the Portable Electronic Irrigator is completely drained of water.
04. Remove reservoir from the Portable Electronic Irrigator, and wash the outside
and inside of the reservoir with the dishwashing solution.
05. Use the dishwashing solution and a cloth to gently wipe clean the Portable
Electronic Irrigator housing.
06. Disconnect the adapter wand from the Portable Electronic Irrigator, submerge in
the dishwashing solution and clean with the cloth.
07. After drying and reattaching the reservoir to the Portable Electronic Irrigator, fill it
with the dishwashing solution and reattach the adapter wand.
08. Aim the adapter wand towards a sink and turn on the system. Run the Portable
Electronic Irrigator until it pumps air.
09. Remove the reservoir from the Portable Electronic Irrigator and empty any
remaining dishwashing solution down the drain.
10. Rinse the reservoir repeated with water until no suds are visible and then dry the
outside surface.
11. Reattach the reservoir to the Portable Electronic Irrigator and refill with water.
12. Turn on the Portable Electronic Irrigator and run until the reservoir is empty and
pumps air.
13. Empty the reservoir of any remaining water and leave the fill cap open to allow
the inside to air dry.
14. Dry all outer surfaces of the Portable Electronic Irrigator.
15. Reattach the charger to the Portable Electronic Irrigator and it is ready for the
next use.
HIGH LEVEL DISINFECTION OF THE BIONIX OTOCLEAR EAR IRRIGATION
SYSTEM (INCLUDING OTOCLEAR EAR BASIN)
It is recommended to high level disinfect the Bionix Ear Irrigation System after any
use where there was contact with blood, infectious material, and/or non-intact skin.
01. Use one of the following high level disinfecting (HLD) solutions that are
compatible with the Bionix Ear Irrigation System:
• Ortho-Phthalaldehyde Solution (0.55% maximum)
• Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide Solution (2% maximum)
• Glutaraldehyde Solution (3.0% maximum)
02. Prepare the HLD solution per the manufacturer’s instructions.
03. Ensure all water has been drained from the Portable Electronic Irrigator.
04. Fill the reservoir with the HLD solution.
05. Aiming towards a drain or collection bottle, turn the Portable Electronic Irrigator
on and run the HLD solution through the system until approximately half of the
reservoir (~100 ml) has been pumped.
06. Refill the reservoir with HLD solution.
07. Allow the HLD solution to soak in the Portable Electronic Irrigator per the HLD
manufacturer’s instructions for use.
08. After the manufacturer’s recommended soak, turn the Portable Electronic Irrigator
on and run until the reservoir is empty and it pumps air.
09. Empty the reservoir of any remaining HLD solution.
10. Carefully wipe off any HLD solution that may have gotten on the outer surfaces of
the Portable Electronic Irrigator.
11. Fill the reservoir with clean rinse water.
12. Turn the Portable Electronic Irrigator on and run until the reservoir is empty of
rinse water and it pumps air.
13. Repeat steps 11 – 12 until the system has been rinsed three times.
14. Empty the reservoir of any remaining water and leave the fill cap open to allow
the inside to air dry.
15. Dry all outer surfaces of the Portable Electronic Irrigator.
16. Reattach the charger to the Portable Electronic Irrigator and it is ready for the
next use.
