Introduction
The i2050ConfigurationTool.exe is a utility which can be run to configure a IP Softphone
2050.
To use this utility:
1. Install the IP Softphone 2050 on the user’s computer
2. Edit the 2050Settings.ini file to define the configuration required for the end user
3. Download the i2050ConfigurationTool.exe and the 2050Settings.ini file to the user’s
computer
4. In the user’s runtime context, open a command prompt, change current directory to
the folder with the tool and run the i2050ConfigurationTool.exe specifying the
2050Settings.ini file as the parameter.
For example:
Nortel Page 2 of 13
i2050ConfigurationTool.exe 2050Settings.ini
i2050ConfigurationTool writes the settings defined in the input file to the registry where the
IP Softphone 2050 will subsequently read them.
Each 2050Settings.ini file contains settings for one profile for an IP Softphone 2050 user. If
the registry settings in the .ini file have not been previously assigned, the utility will create
them. If the registry settings in the .ini file have been previously assigned, the utility will
overwrite them with the new values. If an administrator wishes to create more than one
profile for a user, then additional .ini files must be created and the
i2050ConfigurationTool.exe must be launched multiple times, one for each profile. The last
.ini file used with a setting “Default=1” defines the profile which will be the default profile for
the user.
The settings in the 2050Settings.ini file are assumed to be correct. Since this is an
administration utility little error checking is performed.
The .ini file is divided into sections for collections of various attributes. These sections, in
general, correspond to the various settings pages in IP Softphone 2050 Settings (Start >
Programs > Avaya > 2050 IP Softphone > 2050 IP Softphone Settings). An example
2050settings.ini file is provided and is included below. The file format is subsequently
described in detail below.
