Followtheproceduresexactlyasstatedinthismanual,andheedallDANGER,WARNING,and

Thedrivermustpossessavalid,unrestricteddriver’slicenseissuedbytheStateinwhichthevehicle
willbeoperated.
Thedriverandpassengermustberestrainedatalltimeswiththeseatbeltsprovidedtohelpprevent
injuryintheeventofsuddenbrakingorcollision.
Donotallowpeopletorideinanypartofthevehiclethatisnotequippedwithaseatandaseatbelt.
Donotallowathirdpersontositinthemiddleoftheseatorletapassengerholdachildinhisor
herlapwhilethevehicleismoving.
Donotleavechildrenunattendedonvehicle.
Thevehicleisnotdesignedtomeetchildseatcompatibilityrequirements.Childrenrequiringachild
safetyseatmustnotrideonthevehicle.Complywithstateandlocallawspertainingtochildsafety.
Priortoleavingthevehicleunattendedorservicingthevehicle,settheparkbrake,placethe
Forward/ReversehandleorswitchintheNEUTRALposition,turnthekeyswitchtotheOFFposition,
andremovethekey.Chockthewheelswhenservicingthevehicle.
Improperuseofthevehicleorfailuretoproperlymaintainitcouldresultindecreasedvehicle
performance,severepersonalinjury,ordeath.
Anymodicationorchangetothevehiclethataffectsthestabilityorhandlingofthevehicle,or
increasesmaximumvehiclespeedbeyondfactoryspecications,couldresultinseverepersonal
injuryordeath.
Checkthevehicleforproperlocationofallvehiclesafetyandoperationdecalsandmakesuretheyare
inplaceandareeasytoread.
Forvehicleswithcargobeds,removeallcargobeforeraisingthebedorservicingthevehicle.Ifthe
vehicleisequippedwithaproprod,ensurethatitissecurelyengagedwhilebedisraised.Donot
closebeduntilallpersonsareclearofcargobedarea.Keephandsclearofallcrushareas.Donot
dropcargobed;lowergentlyandkeepentirebodyclear.Failuretoheedthiswarningcouldresultin
severepersonalinjuryordeath.
Onlytrainedtechniciansshouldserviceorrepairthevehicleorbatterycharger.Anyonedoingeven
simplerepairsorserviceshouldhaveknowledgeandexperienceinelectricalandmechanicalrepair.
Theappropriateinstructionsandprecautionsmustbeusedwhenperformingmaintenance,service,or
accessoryinstallation.
PlaceTow/RunswitchintheTOWpositionbeforedisconnectingorconnectingthebatteries.Failureto
heedthiswarningcouldresultinabatteryexplosionorseverepersonalinjury.
Toavoidunintentionallystartinganelectricvehicle,disconnectthebatteriesanddischargethe
controller.SeeDisconnectingtheBatteriesElectricVehiclesonpage13.
Ensurebatteryconnectionsarecleanandproperlytightened.SeeBatteryCareWaterQualityon

Useonly4-gauge(AWG)wireswithlow-resistanceterminalstoreplacebatterywiresonthevehicle.
Wearsafetyglassesorapprovedeyeprotectionwhenservicingthevehicleorbatterycharger.Weara
fullfaceshieldandrubbergloveswhenworkingonornearbatteries.
Donotwearlooseclothingorjewelrysuchasrings,watches,chains,etc.,whenservicingthe
vehicleorbatterycharger.
Useinsulatedtoolswhenworkingnearbatteriesorelectricalconnections.Useextremecautionto
avoidshortingofcomponentsorwiring.

Lead-acidbatteriescontainlead(Pb),othermetals,acidsandothercompounds.Ifimproperlyhandled,
theycancontaminatebothwaterandsoil,causingenvironmentaldamageandpersonalinjury.
Lead-acidbatteriesareidentiedbythesymbolshownbelowandshouldbeproperlyrecycled(Figure2).Theycannot

KEYSWITCH
Thekeyswitch(1)ismountedonthedashtotherightofthesteeringcolumn(Figure5).
Thisvehicleisequippedwithatwo-position(“pedal-start”)keyswitch.
NOTE:ThekeycanberemovedonlywhenthekeyswitchisintheOFFposition.
FORWARD/REVERSECONTROL
TheForward/Reverserockerswitch(2)islocatedontheright-handsideoftheinstrumentpanel(Figure5).TheF
(FORWARD)andR(REVERSE)positionsareclearlymarked.PresstheFORWARDsideoftheswitchtooperatethe
vehicleintheforwarddirection,orpresstheREVERSEsideoftheswitchtooperatethevehicleinreverse.Whenthe
rockerswitchispositionedinNEUTRAL,withneithersidedown,thevehiclewillnotoperateiftheacceleratorpedalis
pressed.ThereversebuzzerwillsoundasawarningwhentheForward/ReverseswitchisintheREVERSEposition.

BATTERYWARNINGLIGHT
Thesevehiclesfeatureadashmountedwarninglight(4)(abovesteeringcolumn)that,whenthevehicleisinoperation,
indicateslowbatteryvoltageor,whenthevehicleisbeingcharged,indicatesachargingproblem(Figure5).The
batterywarninglightiscontrolledbytheonboardcomputer.
Whenthevehicleisinoperation,thewarninglightisdesignedtoilluminateandremainilluminatedif:
Batteries’voltagedropsbelow48whenthereisnoloadonthebatteries(thevehicleisstoppedandthereare
noaccessorieson).
Batterieshavedischargedtolessthan25%ofratedcapacity.
Ifthewarninglightilluminateswhenthevehicleisoperating,thereshouldbeenoughpowerremainingtodrivethe
vehicleforapproximately30minutes.However,thevehicleshouldbechargedattherstopportunity.Ifthewarning
lightilluminatesandthevehicleisunabletooperatefor30minutes,haveyourClubCardistributor/dealercheckthe
vehicleforapossiblebatteryorelectricalsystemproblem.
Whenthebatteriesreceiveanincompletechargebecause1)ACpowertothechargerisinterrupted,2)automatic
chargershut-offoccursafter16hoursofoperation,3)thechargermalfunctions,or4)thewrongchargerisused,the
warninglightwillindicateasfollows:
Thewarninglightwillnotcomeonifthechargeis90%ormorecomplete.Theonboardcomputerwillretainin
memorytheamountofchargeneededtofullyreplenishthebatteriesandwillcompletethechargeduringthe
nextchargecycle.
Whenthechargerisunplugged,thewarninglightwillilluminateandremainilluminatedfor10secondsifthecharge
islessthan90%completebutthevehiclehasenoughpowerforapproximately30minutesofoperation.Thiswill
alerttheoperatorthatthevehiclemaybeused,butthatitmustbechargedtocompletionassoonaspossible.
Thewarninglightwillrepeatedlyilluminatefor10seconds,with4secondintervalsifthechargertimesoutat16
hoursandthebatteriesarenotsufcientlycharged.Seebatterychargerowner’smanual.Thisindicatesan
abnormalchargecycle.ThechargerandbatteriesshouldbecheckedbyyourClubCardistributor/dealer.
Thewarninglightwillrepeatedlyilluminatefor10seconds,with4secondintervalsduringachargecycle(DCplugis
stillconnected)ifACpowertothechargerisinterrupted.ThelightwillgooutwhenACpowerisrestored.
LEDLight:Inadditiontothewarninglight,thereisaninfraredLEDinthedashlightassembly,whichtransmitsan
infraredsignalfromtheonboardcomputer(OBC).ThissignalisreceivedbytheoptionalCommunicationDisplay
Module,whichprovidesinformationontheconditionofthevehicleandbatteries.
BATTERYCONDITIONINDICATOR(OPTION)
Thebatteryconditionindicatorfeaturesa10-barLEDdisplaythat,whenthevehicleisinoperation,displaysthelevelof
batterycapacity,measuringbatteryvoltageoveraperiodoftime.
Whenbatteriesarefullycharged,allindicatorlightswillbeon.Whenbatteryvoltagedropsbelow75%offulldischarge,
thelasttwoindicatorlightswillashalternately.Continueduseofvehicleafterindicatorlightsbeginashingwithout
rechargingcouldresultindecreasedvehicleperformance.SeefollowingNOTE.
NOTE:Ifbatteryconditionindicatormovesrapidly(approximately45minutes)fromfullchargedisplaytoempty,there
maybeaproblemwiththewiringorwithabatterycell.Ifindicatordisplaydoesnotresetbacktofullafter
recharging,theremaybeaproblemwiththebatterychargerorwithoneofthebatteries.Ineithercasethe
vehicleshouldbecheckedbyaClubCardealeroratrainedtechnician.
