Donotwearjewelry,longscarvesorotherlooseclothing,which

Usea groundedthree-wireextensioncordand receptacleforall

machineswithelectricstartengines.

Disengageall controlleversbeforestartingtheengine.

SafeHandlingof Gasoline

Toavoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecarein

handlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremelyflammableandthevaporsare

explosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhengasolineisspilled

onyourselfor yourclotheswhichcanignite. Washyourskinand

changeclothesimmediately.

• Useonlyan approvedgasolinecontainer.

• Extinguishallcigarettes,cigars,pipesandothersourcesof

ignition.

• Neverfuelmachineindoors.

• Neverremovegascapor addfuelwhiletheengineishotor

running.

• Allowenginetocoolat leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.

• Neveroverfillfueltank.Filltankto nomorethan1/2inchbelow

• Replacegasolinecapandtightensecurely.

trailerandrefuelitontheground.Ifthis isnotpossible,thenrefuel

suchequipmenton a trailerwitha portablecontainer,ratherthan

froma gasolinedispensernozzle.

• Keepthenozzlein contactwiththerimofthefueltankor

containeropeningatalltimesuntilfuelingiscomplete.Donotuse

a nozzlelock-opendevice.

OPERATION

• Donotputhandsorfeetnear rotatingparts,in theauger/impeller

housingor chuteassembly.Contactwiththerotatingpartscan

amputatehandsandfeet.

• Theauger/impellercontrolleverisa safetydevice.Neverbypass

itsoperation.Doingsomakesthemachineunsafeandmaycause

personalinjury.

• Thecontrolleversmustoperateeasilyin bothdirectionsand

automaticallyreturntothedisengagedpositionwhenreleased.

• Neveroperatewitha missingor damagedchuteassembly.Keep

all safetydevicesin placeandworking.

• Neverrunanengineindoorsor ina poorlyventilatedarea.Engine

exhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,anodorlessanddeadlygas.

• Donotoperatemachinewhileundertheinfluenceofalcoholor

drugs.

• Mufflerandenginebecomehotandcancausea burn.Donot

Planyoursnow-throwingpatternto avoiddischargetowards

windows,walls,carsetc.Thus,avoidingpossibleproperty

damageor personalinjurycausedbya ricochet.

Preventpossiblepropertydamageorpersonalinjuryfrom

objectricochetbyplanningyoursnowthrowingpatterntoavoid

dischargetowardswindows,walls,cars,etc.

• Donotoverloadmachinecapacitybyattemptingtoclearsnowat

toofastof a rate.

• Neveroperatethis machinewithoutgoodvisibilityorlight.Always

be sureofyourfootingand keepa firmholdon thehandles.Walk,

neverrun.

• Disengagepowertotheauger/impellerwhentransportingor not

in use.

• Neveroperatemachineathightransportspeedson slippery

surfaces.Lookdownand behindand usecarewhenbackingup.

• Ifthemachineshouldstarttovibrateabnormally,stoptheengine,

disconnectthesparkplugwireandgrounditagainsttheengine.

Inspectthoroughlyfordamage.Repairanydamagebefore

startingandoperating.

• Disengageall controlleversandstopenginebeforeyouleave

theoperatingposition(behindthehandles).Waituntiltheauger/

impellercomestoa completestopbeforeuncloggingthechute

assembly,makinganyadjustments,or inspections.

• Neverputyourhandinthedischargeor collectoropenings.Do

notunclogchuteassemblywhileengineisrunning.Shutoff

engineand remainbehindhandlesuntilall movingpartshave

stoppedbeforeunclogging.

• Useonlyattachmentsandaccessoriesapprovedbythemanufac-

turer(e.g.wheelweights,tirechains,cabsetc.).

• Whenstartingengine,pullcordslowlyuntilresistanceisfelt,then

pull rapidly.Rapidretractionofstartercord(kickback)willpull

handandarmtowardenginefasterthanyoucanletgo.Broken

bones,fractures,bruisesor sprainscouldresult.

CLEARING A CLOGGED DISCHARGE CHUTE

Handcontactwiththe rotatingimpellerinsidethedischargechute

is themostcommoncauseofinjuryassociatedwithsnowthrowers.

Neveruseyourhandtocleanoutthedischargechute.

Toclearthechute:

1. SHUTTHEENGINEOFF!

2. Wait 10secondstobe suretheimpellerbladeshavestopped

rotating.

3. Alwaysusea clean-outtool,notyourhands.

MAINTENANCE & STORAGE

• Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheirproperoperation

regularly.Refertothemaintenanceandadjustmentsectionsof

thismanual.

• Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspectingmachinedisengageall

controlleversandstoptheengine.Waituntiltheauger/impeller

cometoa completestop.Disconnectthe sparkplugwireand

groundagainsttheenginetopreventunintendedstarting.

Checkboltsand screwsforpropertightnessatfrequentintervals

tokeepthemachineinsafeworkingcondition.Also,visually

inspectmachineforanydamage.

Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingor over-speedthe

engine.Thegovernorcontrolsthe maximumsafeoperatingspeed

oftheengine.

Snowthrowershaveplatesand skidshoesaresubjecttowear

anddamage.Foryoursafetyprotection,frequentlycheckall

componentsand replacewithoriginalequipmentmanufacturer's

(OEM)partsonlyaslistedinthe Partspagesof thisOperator's

Manual.Useofpartswhichdonotmeettheoriginalequipment

specificationsmayleadto improperperformanceandcompro-

misesafety!

Checkcontrolleversperiodicallytoverifytheyengageanddisen-

gageproperlyandadjust,ifnecessary.Refertotheadjustment

sectioninthisoperator'smanualforinstructions.

Maintainor replacesafetyandinstructionlabels,asnecessary.

Observeproperdisposallawsand regulationsforgas,oil,etc.to

protecttheenvironment.

Priorto storing,runmachinea few minutestoclearsnowfrom

machineand preventfreezeupofauger/impeller.

Checkfuelline,tank,cap,andfittingsfrequentlyforcracksor

leaks.Replaceifnecessary.

Donotcrankenginewithsparkplugremoved.

AccordingtotheConsumerProductsSafetyCommission(CPSC)

andtheU.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA),thisproduct

hasan AverageUsefulLifeof seven(7)years,or 60 hoursof

operation.AttheendoftheAverageUsefulLifehavethemachine

inspectedannuallybyan authorizedservicedealertoensurethat

allmechanicalandsafetysystemsareworkingproperlyand not

wornexcessively.Failuretodo socanresultinaccidents,injuries

ordeath.

Toavoidseriousinjuryor death,do notmodifyengineinanyway.

Tamperingwiththegovernorsettingcanleadtoa runawayengineand

causeittooperateat unsafespeeds.Nevertamperwithfactorysetting

EngineswhicharecertifiedtocomplywithCaliforniaandfederal

EPAemissionregulationsforSORE(SmallOff RoadEquipment)are

certifiedtooperateon regularunleadedgasoline,and mayinclude

thefollowingemissioncontrolsystems:EngineModification(EM),

OxidizingCatalyst(OC),SecondaryAirInjection(SAI)and ThreeWay

Catalyst(TWO)if soequipped.

Thismachineisequippedwithaninternalcombustionengineand

Allow the engine to cool at least two minutes before refueling.

Never run an engine indoors or in a poorly ventilated area. Engine exhaust contains carbon

Do not use the engine's electric starter in the rain

Engine parts, especially the muffler, become extremely hot during operation. Allow engine and

UNPACKING THE SNOW THROWER

1. Openthetopofthecarton.

2. Cutdownthecornerson thefrontofthecartonandfolddownthe

frontside.

3. Pullthesnowthroweroutofthecarton.Besurenottodamage

thechute,chuterotationcontrolassemblyoranycablesattached

tothechute.Someofthesepartsareshippedundertheshroud

onthebacksideofthecarton.Checkforanycabletiessecuring

thechuteand removeifnecessary.

1. Removethewingknobandcarriageboltfromthetopofthelower

handle.See Figure1.Itis notnecessarytoremovetheshoulder

SET-UP

Fuel Recommendations

Useautomotivegasoline(unleadedor lowleadedtominimizecombus-

tionchamberdeposits)witha minimumof87 octane.Gasolinewith

up to 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButylEther)canbe

used.Neverusean oil/gasolinemixtureordirty gasoline.Avoidgetting

dirt, dust,or waterinthefueltank.DONOTuseE85gasoline.

• Refuelina well-ventilatedareawiththeenginestopped.Donot

smokeorallowflamesor sparksin theareawheretheengineis

refueledor wheregasolineisstored.

• Donotoverfillthefueltank.After refueling,makesurethetank

capisclosedproperlyandsecurely.

• Becarefulnotto spillfuelwhenrefueling.Spilledfuelorfuelvapor

mayignite.Ifanyfuelis spilled,makesuretheareaisdrybefore

startingtheengine.

• Avoidrepeatedorprolongedcontactwithskinorbreathingofvapor.

Adding Fuel

Useextremecarewhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremely

flammableandthevaporsareexplosive.Neverfuelthemachine

indoorsorwhiletheengineishotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,

cigars,pipesandothersourcesof ignition.

Alwayskeephandsandfeetclearofequipmentmovingparts.Donot

usea pressurizedstartingfluid.Vaporsare flammable.

1. Removethegascap,checkthefuellevelandaddfuelifnecessary.

Fillthetankuntilthefuelreaches1/2"belowthebottomofthefiller

necktoallowforfuelexpansion.Becarefulnottooverfill.

Checking and Adding Oil

Theengineis shippedwithoutoil in theengine.Youmustfillthe

enginewithoilbeforeoperating.Runningtheenginewithinsufficient

oilcancauseseriousenginedamageandvoidtheproductwarranty.

Placethesnowthroweron a flat,levelsurface.

2. Removetheoil fillercap/dipstickandwipethedipstickclean.See

thepointwhereitbecomesslightlyhardertopulltherope,slowly

allowtheropeto recoil.

6. Pullthestarterhandlewitha firm,rapidstroke.Donotrelease

thehandleandallowittosnapback.Keepa firmholdonthe

starterhandleandallowittoslowlyrecoil.

7. Allowtheenginetowarmup severalminutes,adjustingchoke

towardRUN| _position.Waituntilenginerunssmoothlybefore

eachchokeadjustment.

STOPPING THE ENGINE

1. Runtheenginefora fewminuteswithoutloadbeforestoppingto

helpdryoff anymoistureon theengine.

2. Tostoptheengineremovethekeyand storeitin a safeplace.

3. Wipeall thesnowandmoistureawayfromtheenginecontrols

area.

Muffler,engineandsurroundingareasbecomehotandcancausea

burn.Becarefulanddonottouchwhentheyare hot.

ENGAGING THE AUGER

Engagetheaugerbysqueezingtheaugercontrolagainsttheupper

handle.Releasethecontroltostoptheauger.

ENGAGING THE DRIVE

Liftup slightlyontheupperhandletoallowtherubberpaddleson the

augertocontactthepavementandpropelthesnowthrowerforward.

Pushingdownwardonthe handlewill raisetheaugeroff theground

and stoptheforwardmotion.

NOTE:Excessiveupwardpressureonthehandlewillresultin

prematureweartotherubberaugerpaddles,whichwill notbecovered

bythewarranty.

CLEARING A CLOGGED DISCHARGE CHUTE

Handcontactwiththe rotatingimpellerinsidethedischargechute

isthe mostcommoncauseofinjuryassociatedwithsnowthrowers.

Neveruseyourhandtocleanoutthedischargechute.

Toclearthechute:

1. SHUTTHEENGINEOFF!

2. Wait 10secondstobe suretheimpellerbladeshavestopped

rotating.

3. Alwaysusea clean-outtoolor stick,notyourhands.

levelperformanceistobemaintained.Regularmaintenancewillalso

ensurea longservicelife.Therequiredserviceintervalsandthetype

of maintenancetobe performedaredescribedinthetableabove.

Followthehourlyorcalendarintervals,whicheveroccurfirst.More

frequentserviceisrequiredwhenoperatinginadverseconditions.

Checkoil levelbeforeeachuseandevery5 operatinghourswhenthe

Cleaning the Engine

beforecleaning.Periodicallyremovedirtbuild-upfromengine.Before

servicingtheengine,removethecarburetorcoverand/orblower

housing.Cleandirtanddebrisfromthefollowingareas:

Removingdebriswillinsureadequatecooling,correctenginespeed

and reducetheriskoffire.

Donotspraytheenginewithwatertocleanitbecausethewatercould

contaminatethefuel.Usingagardenhoseor pressurewashingequip-

mentcanalsoforcewaterintothemuffleropening.Waterthatpasses

throughthemufflercanentertheenginecylinderandcausedamage.

Accumulationofdebrisaroundthemufflercouldcausea fire.Inspect

andcleanbeforeevery_use.

LUBRICATION

Lubricatethe pivotpointson thecontrolhandleandtheextension

springattheendofthecontrolcablewitha lightoilonceeveryseason

and beforethesnowthrowerisputintostorageattheendofthe

season.

ADJUSTMENTS

Shave Plate

Tochecktheadjustmentoftheshaveplate,placethemachineon a

levelsurface.Thewheels,shaveplateandaugerpaddlesshouldall

contactthelevelsurface.Notethat iftheshaveplateisadjustedtoo

high,snowmayblowundertheaugerhousing.If theshaveplatewears

outexcessively,or thesnowthrowerdoesnotself-propel,theshave

platemaybetoolowthegroundand needstobeadjusted.

NOTE:Onnewsnowthrowersor machineswitha newshaveplate

installed,theaugerpaddlesmaybeslightlyoff theground.

Toadjusttheshaveplateproceedasfollows:

1. Runthesnowthroweruntilthefueltankisempty.

2. Pullthestartercorduntilresistanceisfelt.Thentipthesnow

throwerbackuntilit restsonthehandles.Toensurethatthesnow

throwerdoesnottipforward,it maybe necessarytosecurethe

handletothegroundwitha blockorotherobject.

3. Loosenthefourflangelocknutsandcarriagescrewswhichsecurethe

shaveplatetothehousing.SeeFigure20.Movetheshaveplatetothe

appropriatepositionandretightenthenutsandscrewssecurely.

2. Pulltherecoilstarterhandleuntilresistanceisfelt.Thentipthe

snowthrowerbackuntilitrestson thehandles.

3. Removethefourcarriageboltsandflangelocknutswhichattach

it tothesnowthrowerhousing.Referto Figure20on page14.

4. Reversetheexistingshaveplateor installa newone,makingsure

thenewshaveplateandthe headsofthecarriageboltsareon

theinsideofthehousing.

5. Adjustthe shaveplateas instructedon page14.

PREPARING THE ENGINE

carburetorparts.If thegasolineinyourenginedeterioratesduring

storage,youmayneedto havethecarburetor,andotherfuelsystem

components,servicedor replaced.

1. Removeall fuelfromthetankbyrunningtheengineuntilit stops.

2. Changetheengineoil.

3. Removethe sparkplugandpourapproximately1oz.(30 ml)of

cleanengineoil intothecylinder.Pullthe recoilstarterseveral

timestodistributetheoil,and reinstallthesparkplug.

4. Cleantheexterioroftheenginebywipingdirtanddebrisfromthe

followingareas:

• CoolingFins

• AirIntakeScreenor RecoilStarter/FlywheelGuardAreas

• SparkPlugConnection

• Levers

Donotspraytheenginewithwatertocleanitbecausethewatercould

5. Storeina clean,dry andwellventilatedareaawayfromany

appliancethatoperateswitha flameor pilotlight,suchasa

furnace,waterheateror clothesdryer.Avoidanyareawitha spark

producingelectricmotor,or wherepowertoolsareoperated.

Neverstoresnowthrowerwithfuelintank indoorsor inpoorlyventi-

latedareas,wherefuelfumesmayreachan openflame,sparkor pilol

lightasona furnace,waterheater,clothesdryerorgasappliance.

6. If possible,avoidstorageareaswithhighhumidity.

7. Keeptheenginelevelin storage.Tiltingtheengine cancause

fuelor oil leakage.

PREPARING SNOW THROWER

Ifthesnowthrowerwillnotbeusedfor30daysor longer,followthe

instructionsbelow.

1. Storetheequipmentin aclean,dryarea.

2. Wipedownthesnowthrowerwitha ragand removeanydirtor

debris.

3. Ifstoringthesnowthrowerin anunventilatedarea,rustproofthe

metalpartsofthemachinewitha lightoil or siliconecoating.
