TEAC EU2890ST is a TV set with a 70 cm diagonal and a visible screen of 66 cm. Warranty Terms & Conditions
1. TEAC warrants to the original retail purchaser only, that this product is free from defects in material and
workmanship under normal domestic use and authorises free service during the warranty period at any TEAC
Authorised Centre only. TEAC warranty only applies to products purchased, used and serviced in Australia.
2. Subject to the terms herein, this warranty effectively covers the equipment as specified in the Warranty
Periods Table from the date of purchase.
3. All parts, except the external cabinet, are warranted as specified in Warranty Periods Table, and will be
repaired or replaced at the sole judgement of TEAC.
4. Normal customer maintenance as described in the owner's manual is not covered by this warranty (such as
cleaning VCR heads etc.)
5. This warranty does not apply to equipment showing abuse, damage or that it may have been tampered with,
altered or repaired outside any TEAC Authorised Service Centre. If so, the warranty will be void.

6. In the event that this unit or any defective parts must be returned to TEAC Service Centres, a copy of this
warranty certificate and of your purchase receipt must be enclosed to be a valid warranty. Such equipment
or parts must be sent to the nearest authorised TEAC Service Centre. After the repair, the unit will be
available for collection by the owner or it will be returned to the owner. The warranty does not cover freight
or insurance. In all cases of in-transit damages or loss, a claim must be filed against the carrier by the
purchaser.
7. In home service will only be provided as part of this warranty if all the following conditions are met;
a) The product is a Colour Television of 59cm screen size or over.
b) The product is within the warranty period.
c) The product is located within the normal service area of the local TEAC Service Provider.
In any other situation or circumstance, where an in home service call is made, a service fee will be charged by
the Service Provider. TEAC Total Care in home service and installation is available at competitive rates.
8. No one is authorised to assume any liability on behalf of TEAC or impose any obligation on it, in connection
with the sale of any equipment other than as stated in this warranty and outlined above.
9. In no event will TEAC be responsible or liable for indirect or consequential damages from interrupted
operations or other causes.
10. Warranty is not transferable to any subsequent purchaser if the product is sold during the warranty period,

SAFETY AND PRECAUTIONS
To ensure safe and reliable operation of the TV set, please observe the following precautions in installation,
operation and maintenance.
Attention:
1. Pay attention to the power supply cord before installing the TV set. Do not hang anything on the cord and avoid
treading on the cord.
2. The slots on the housing back are designed for ventilation to ensure reliable operation of the TV set and prevent
overheating. They must never be covered or blocked. The TV set must not be placed near a heat source or it
might be damaged.
3. The outdoor antenna must not be erected close to HV lines or other power supply lines. Use extreme care when
erecting the antenna and not to touch living wires or injury may occur.
4. This TV set can only use the supply voltage and frequency indicated on the back of the housing. If your power
supply does not comply with them, please consult with the service personnel.
5. Do not let any object fall into the ventilation opening of the TV set housing, not let any liquid flow into the
machine via the opening.
6. Do not subject the TV set rain or use it in a damp environment. Whwn cleaning dust, be sure to remove the
power supply plug from its socket first. Do not clean the housing with directly liquid detergent, p cloth. Be sure to
remove the power supply plug from its scocket and remove the antanna plug during a thunderstorm or when it
will not be used for long time to avoid components being damaged by lightning.
7. If you use an indoor antenna do not let it touch any electrical appliance or normal reception of TV programs may
be affected.
Safety:
1. Do not remove the back of housing by yourself, as high voltages inside the unit are dangerous. If it is necessary
to open the back, ask a technician with specialized service experience.
2. Remove the power supply plug from its socket in case of the following conditions and consult with service
personnel.
(1) The power cord or plug are damaged or shows crecking.
(2) Any object has fallen into or liquid flown into the TV set.
(3) The performance of TV set has deteriorated significantly or there is damage on the housing.
(4) The TV set will not operate normally according to the instructions.
3. Please remove the power supply plug from its socket when the TV set will not be used for a long period time.

INFRA-RED REMOTE CONTROL
Insert two 1,5V batteries, type R6 (RL6) micro. We recommend using alkaline batteries. Be careful to
correctly insert the batteries into the battery compartment (observe the drawing on the compartment
bottom). Check the batteries every now and then to prevent the leakage of worn out batteries.
In order to assure perfect functioning, the remote control handset should be always pointing toward the
TV set. The flashing of the red signal light indicates, that the TV set is receiving the infra-red signals.!

possible to set all the important functions of it.

SWITCHING ON AND OFF
SWITCHING ON TO
STAND-BY MODE
Switch on the TV set to stand-by mode by
pressing the mains switch (. The red indicator
light ! turns on.
SWITCHING ON FROM
STAND-BY MODE
When switching on, the red indicator turns
green.
The time between switching on and picture
appearing on the TV set is 4 to 8 seconds.
If your TV set is in stand-by mode, you can
switch it on with one of the following
procedures:
press the key ª on the remote control,
press the Pr- # or Pr+ $ key on the control
unit,
press any of the programme selection keys
1-0 on the remote control.
With the first two procedures the TV set will turn
on and the programme selected will be the
programme stored under 1. With the thirth
procedure, the TV set will turn on to programme
entered by pressing any of the numbers on the
keys 1-0 .
If the programme number has one digit, press
the key with adequate number (e.g. 2) and after
two seconds the displayed number disappears -
the programme displayed is the programme
under number 2.
If the programme number has two digits (e.g.
15), two keys (1 and 5) shall be pressed
consequently, the time elapsed between
pressing both numbers should not exceed 2
seconds - the programme displayed is the
programme under number 15.
If you select programme number which is not
stored, the "EMPTY" sign will be displayed.
In the AV mode (AV1, AV2 or SVHS) you can
switch on your TV set by pressing the AV key.
If AV signal is connected (socket 8 on SCART
connector), the TV set switches over to AV mode
automatically. This is for programmes received
via Euro-AV input (SCART) on the rear side of the
TV set.
To exit AV mode, simply press the key ¢.
SWITCHING OFF TO
STAND-BY MODE
Switch the TV set from operation mode to stand-
by mode by pressing key ª . The green control
light turns red. The power consumption is
reduced to app. 0,5 W.
If there is no programme on the channel that
your TV set is set to, the TV set will turn off after
5 minutes.
You can also select and set other switch-off time
(see SPECIAL-SLEEP TIMER menu).
In all above stated examples the TV set turns off
to stand-by mode.

If you don't intend to watch TV for a longer period of time (e.g. over the night - switch it off
with the mains switch (!
SETTING TV PROGRAMMES
When switching on the TV set for the first time or
if you want to change programme settings, use
the MENU key and move to "MENU". From
this menu you can move to the following menu:

ZOOM (see page 12)
In "MENU" you can select between stated
menus with the p and q keys. The
selected menu is always illuminated. To switch
on the selected menu use the t or u keys.
Use the p, t, u and q keys in the
same way in every menu.
MENU "INSTALLATION"
searching the flashing "..." sign is displayed near
the "AUTOSTORE". If you want to interrupt
searching, press key STOP on the remote
control.
When searching is finished, the TV channels
which were found are automatically sorted and
stored. For identified programmes their name is
displayed, while others are marked wit a letter P
and successive number. When finished, the TV
set returns to "INFO" menu. You can also return
to this menu at any time by interrupting the
automatic search.
To exit the "INFO" menu, press the key ¢.
Return to "INSTALLATION" menu via
"MENU". In "INSTALLATION" menu the
channels can be manually searched. Use it if you
want to find a channel with very weak signal or
simply if you want to find another programme
without activating automatic search. Use the
p or q keys and illuminate selection
"PROGRAM NR". Use the use the t or u
keys and select the programme location, where
you want to store your programme.
Use the p and q keys and illumunate
selection "CHANNEL". Channel can be set
using one of the following procedures. Use the
t or u keys and select the previous or the
next channel or simply enter the number of the
channel. Use the OK key and move to the S
range or back.
If the signal of the selected channel is very weak
you can improve it as follows: use the p and
q keys and illuminate the "FINE TUNING"
selection and set the optimum value with the
t and u keys.
If you want to store modifications, move to the
"STORE" selection. Use the t or u keys
and activate storing procedure. The "STORE"
sign in the menu flashes in red for a second.
To exit the "INSTALLATION" menu, press the
key ¢.

This menu is used for searching, sorting and
storing of programmes.
Move to selection "AUTOSTORE" with keys
p or q.
When "AUTOSTORE" is illuminated use the key
u to start automatic channel searching
through the entire frequency range VHS, UHF
and S. By pressing the same key once again, the
"AUTOSTORE" sign is displayed. Confirm
searching by pressing the key OK . During

When automatic search, classifying and storing
of channels is finished, you automatically move
to the "INFO" menu of set programmes. For
direct entry into this menu, press the key i .
If you don't like the way programmes are sorted,
you can arrange programmes in this menu, as
follows:
NAME
(to name or rename a selected programme)
If you want to rename the required
programme, press the blue key - on the
right side the first character of the title is
squared and marked with inverted colour.
Use the p and q keys and select various
characters, letters and figures.
Use the t and u keys, move to the next
character and select it as previous one.
Repeat the procedure until the programme is
renamed.
Press the blue key once again and confirm the
renaming procedure. To exit the "INFO" menu,
press the key ¢.
MENU "SPECIAL"
From the "MENU" (key MENU ) you can
enter the "SPECIAL" menu. When in
"SPECIAL", use the p and q keys and
select one of the six functions. To activate or
deactivate the functions, use the t and u
keys.

Use the p, t, u and q keys and
select the required programme - the
programme is highlighted white on the right
bottom part of the display.
Use the green key and mark the
programme - the programme is highlighted
green the right bottom part of the display.
Use the p and q keys and move to the
position where you want your programmes to
be stored - the programme is highlighted in
red.
Use the green key and activate inserting of
the selected programme.
DELETE
(to delete selected programme)
Use the p, t, u and q keys and
select the required programme - the
programme is highlighted white on the right
bottom part of the display.
Use the yellow key and delete the
programme - the programme is highlighted
yellow. Three dots are flashing under the
highlighted programme until the deleting
procedure is finished.
All programmes arranged bellow the deleted
programme are moved one position forward.
Available functions:
LANGUAGE:
Use the t and u keys and select the
language in menus.
PERM.OSD:
If this function is on, in the top left corner the
programme number will be displayed, or AV sign
if in AV mode.
SLEEP TIMER:
With this function you can preset the time of
switching off. It can be preset from 0 to 120
minutes in 15 minutes intervals.
CHILD LOCK:
With this function you can lock certain
programmes in order to prevent children from
watching them. If the "CHILD LOCK" function
is on, the keys on the remote control and on the
control unit are not active. If you switch off the
locked TV set and then again switch it on, the
"LOCKED" sign will be displayed on the screen.
The same happens when switching over
between programmes. To exit this status, enter
the "SPECIAL" menu and switch off the
"CHILD LOCK" function.
VIDEO OUT:
Some cable programmes (e.g. PREMIERE) are
coded. You can watch these programmes only if
you have encoder. When installing the encoder,
follow this procedure:
Use the SCART cable cord and connect the
encoder into the AV 1 socket (SCART1).
Use the t and u keys and select position
"ON".
If you do not use the encoder, the "VIDEO
OUT" function should be in position "OFF".
To assure optimum quality of the picture from
the external units (VCR, satellite receiver...)
equipped with SCART socket, connect the cable
cord to AV1 socket (SCART1). Also in this case
the "VIDEO OUT" function should be in position
"OFF".

ADJUSTING PICTURE AND SOUND
Sound can be adjusted either by pressing the
t and u keys on the remote control or §-
% and §+ & keys on the control unit. Picture
and volume are adjusted in two menus:

MENU "PICTURE"
Enter the "PICTURE" menu by pressing the
PICT key. Four parameters can be set in this
menu:
BRIGHTNESS
CONTRAST
COLOUR SATURATION
SHARPNESS
HUE
Hue adjustment is present only in AV mode with
NTSC signal.
Use the p and q keys and move between
these selections. To increase or decrease the
value use the t and u keys.
In this menu you can switch between three
preset settings of colour temperatures "TINT":
WARM - red tone prevails,
NORMAL,
COLD - blue tone prevails.
The required modifications can be stored with
the t and u keys, but first you have to
move to the "STORE" position. During storing,
the "STORE" sign flashes in red.
MENU "SOUND Ç"
Press the SOUND key and switch on the
"SOUND Ç" menu. Within this menu, you can
optionally set values for the following sound
functions:
VOLUME,
BALANCE,
BASS,
TREBLE.
To move up and down these positions use the
p or q keys. The desired values of these
positions are set with the t and u keys. In
"MODE" you can switch between four modes:
DUAL A,·
DUAL B,
MONO,
STEREO.
If you want to switch over among these
functions, the programme should be transmitted
in dual tone or stereo mode.
In the "SPACE" mode, you can switch on/off the
panorama effect.
The required modifications can be stored with
the t and u keys, but first you have to
move to the "STORE" position. During storing,
the "STORE" sign flashes in red.
To exit this menu, press the key ¢.

SOUND OFF
Press the key Ï on the remote control and
turn off the sound - the sign Ï is displayed on the
screen. Press the same key once again and turn
on the sound. To turn the sound on again, you
can also use the t and u keys on the
remote control or the §- % and §+ & keys on
the control unit. By holding these keys pressed,
the volume will continuously increase or
decrease, starting at the value set before turning
the sound off.
HEADPHONE SOCKET
You can connect headphones to stereo
headphone socket. To this socket you can
connect stereo headphones with min.
impedance 8 Ohm and 3,5 mm plug. If the plug
of your headphones is different use an adequate
adapter. Set the volume wit keys on remote
control and control unit panel.
When you switch off the headphones,
loudspeakers automatically switch on.
RECALLING THE STORED VALUES
To recall the stored values of picture and sound
press the N ¤ key. The "PERSONAL" sign
appears on the left of the screen. By pressing the
N ¤ key once again within 5 seconds the "DAY"
(picture pre-set daily) sign appears on the left
side of the screen. By pressing the N ¤ key once
again within 5 seconds the "NIGHT" (night
adjustment) sign appears on the left side of the
screen (brighter or darker picture).
By pressing the N ¤ key once again the stored
values "PERSONAL" are restored. Any
modifications of the picture or sound, which are
adjusted in the menu, shall be stored in
"PERSONAL". "DAY" and "NIGHT" are pre-
set in the factory and cannot be modified.
EURO-AV INPUT - SCART
Any of the video devices with a video output
(VCR, videocamera, satellite receiver,
computer...) can be connected to the SCART
socket. If AV signal is connected (terminal pin 8
on SCART connector) the TV set is automatically
switched over to AV mode, when an external
device is connected. If there is no AV signal ,
successively press the AV key and move up or
down the following ranges:
AV key - first press : AV1 (SCART 1),
AV key - second press : AV2 (SCART2),
AV key - third press : YUV (Component
input Y, Cb, Cr)
AV key - fourth press : S-VIDEO (Mini DIN,
AUDIO L, AUDIO R),
AV key - fifth press : AV3 (CINCH INPUT
VIDEO, AUDIOL, AUDIO R),
AV key - sixth press : TV mode, (antenna).
Return to TV mode by pressing the key ¢.
If you want to record a certain program on VCR,
activate the "VIDEO OUT" function in the
"SPECIAL" menu in the position "ON"!
With consequent pressing of ZOOM ¡ key you can switch between five format:
PICTURE FORMAT 16 : 9
When receiver decodes the signal in format 16:9, it will automatically switch to picture 16:9!
Between above mentioned formats you can switch also with menu
"ZOOM".
You can reach "ZOOM" menu through the "MENU" menu with
following keys p, t, u and q.
Menu "ZOOM" includes five different selections. Between
selections you switch keys t or u:

Selections ZOOM 2 and ZOOM 3 include two settings: • NORMAL - manufacturer settings
• USER - adjust on your desires
Adjustment user "USER" in menu "ZOOM" - "ASPECT RATIO": "ZOOM 2" or "ZOOM 3" you can
change in two ways:
• with key p or q you can select ZOOM
• with key t or u you can proportionally minimize
or maximize the picture horizontally or vertically
• with key p or q you can select SCROLL
• with key t or u you can move the picture
up and down
You can save the change of picture format in selection "USER" with moving on selection "STORE".
Using keys t or u you activate storing procedure. The "STORE" sign in the menu flashes in red for
a second.
To exit the menu you press key ¢.
Notice:
Recall of manufactures setting in "ZOOM 2" or "ZOOM 3" you can reach if you move to selection
"SETTINGS" and with keys t or u select "NORMAL". You can start storing procedure with
selection "STORE" and using keys t or u.

low quality and it may have many mistakes.
Legibility is poor and the display of current day
time may be interrupted or incorrect. In some
cases the teletext receiving can be improved
with fine adjustment on the channel in the
"INSTALLATION" menu.
CURRENT DAY TIME
While you are watching TV, you can press the key
ˆ £ and in the upper right corner of the screen
the current day time will be displayed. If there is
no teletext signal for the programme you are
watching, the current day time is not displayed.
TELETEXT ON/OFF
Press the key and switch on the teletext.
The picture on the screen disappears but the
tone remains unchanged. On the black
background the page 100 is displayed - this is the
index page containing the information on
teletext for the programme you are currently
watching.
Switch off teletext by pressing the key ¢.
Teletext can be switched on also when the TV set
is in AV mode.
PAGE SELECTION
Tune in to page 100. The three digit number
indicates the number of page where certain
information is located. To select the required
number of page, use the numeric keypad on the
remote control 1-0 , and enter the three
numbers one after another. The entered number
is displayed in the first line, in white. After
entering the last (third) number, the counter
turns green and starts to count toward the newly
selected number. When reaching the selected
page, the counter turns white and selected
number is displayed. You can select optional
number of teletext information. Don't forget that
some pages are not transmitted, so the counter
cannot stop on those pages.
LISTING UP (Page+)
Press the key p and increase the number of
pages for one, which means that you return to
the following page.
LISTING DOWN (Page+)
Press the key q and decrease the number of
pages for one, which means that you return to
the previous page.
LISTING WITH COLOURED KEYS
In the bottom line the four coloured fields are
displayed. You can use them to speed up listing
through the teletext pages:
Red field:
With red key the number of pages is
decreased by one,
Green field:
With green key the number of pages is
increased by one,
Yellow field:
With yellow key the number of pages is
increased to the first ten or to the first full
page following it.
Blue field:
With blue key the number of pages is
increased to the first hundred or to the first
full page following it.
SUBPAGES SELECTION
Some of the pages contain more information
than can be shown on one screen. Therefore the
contents of the page is divided in two or more
subpages which are displayed on the screen in
turns. Number 1/9 means that the first subpage
of nine is displayed. Use the STOP key to stop
the cycling. If cycling of subpages is interrupted,
in the top left corner of the screen the STOP sign
is displayed. To continue with cycling, press the
STOP key once again.

If you want to see one specific subpage (say 3),
select it with the following procedure:
Press key ˆ £ on the lower screen part the
number of page and subpage is displayed
(e.g. 358-0001),
you want to select subpage number 3 - press
0, 0, 0, 3 one after another,
on the lower screen part the following number
is displayed: 358 - 0003,
when you finish with the selection, you usually
have to wait for few seconds or even minutes
for the TV studio to send the requested
subpage.
You can also use the Listing Up/Down function
to enter the subpage.
MIX TT/TV, TEXT OFF
Consequently press the key to set:
teletext on,
mix TT/TV,
teletext off.
In Mix TT/TV mode the teletext is displayed over
the TV picture. You can simultaneously watch
the programme and read the teletext.
In the Text Off mode watch the TV programme
while you are waiting for the TV studio to send
the required page, but you cannot switch over
between programmes. When teletext receives
the required page or subpage, the number of
page or subpage is displayed. If you press the
key once again, the text of the required
page or subpage is displayed on the screen.
DOUBLE TEXT HEIGHT
If you find the teletext hard to read, you can
enlarge the text by pressing the ZOOM key ¡.
The screen will display the enlarged text of the
upper half of the teletext page. Pressing the
ZOOM key ¡ once again will display the other
half of the enlarged text and by pressing the
ZOOM ¡ key once again, the text will return to
normal size.
HIDDEN PART OF THE TEXT
Certain text on the teletext has hidden
information (quiz, riddles, VPS...). Press the N ¤
key and reveal the text. To hide the text once
again, simply press the N ¤ key.

DEMAGNETISATION OF THE PICTURE TUBE
Changes of the magnetic field near the TV set may cause picture tube magnetisation and colour spots
may appear on the screen. This can happen if you move the TV set or rotate it with respect to the
direction of magnetic field or if you place a device with magnetic source next to the TV set (loudspeakers,
electric motor).
Demagnetisation procedure is as follows:
Switch off the TV set (with the mains switch), wait for the TV set to cool down (at least 20 minutes) and
then switch it on again.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
Instant and permanent disturbances may occur when receiving the television programme. The failure
may not necessary be in the operation of the TV set. Some disturbances:
NO SOUND, NO PICTURE
Check the power supply - socket for 230 V.
POOR QUALITY OF PICTURE AND SOUND
Check antenna connection, fine adjustment of the channel and the direction of the
antenna.
NOISY PICTURE
Check if antenna system is correctly connected.
ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE ON SCREEN, DISTORTED SOUND
Remove devices which cause external interference.
Remote control malfunction.
Check the battery, polarity.
The TV set is microprocessor controlled, and it is possible that it gets blocked. Switch the TV set off
and on.
NO SOUND
Check the volume.
Press the sound on/off key.
In case there is no sound with the video connection via SCART, check the connection.
