YARWAY TRACE-MATE STEAM TRAPS
INSTRUCTION, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL
Before installation these instructions must be fully read and understood
SPECIFICATIONS
OPERATION
On start-up, with the thermal element cool, the
spring-loaded valve is wide open, discharging
air and initial flow of cool condensate.
As the thermal element detects the increasing
temperatures of condensate flowing into the
trap, it moves the valve, against the spring
force, toward the seat. Condensate discharge
rate gradually decreases.
When condensate temperature reaches the
preset temperature, the thermal element
positions the valve to provide continuous,
modulating discharge at a constant
temperature.
Max. pressure 1.0 MPa
Max. temp. 185°C
Size 8A (¼B)
Connection Threaded
Extent of temp. control 60 ~ 105°C
Bonnet 177 Nm (18 kgf·m)
Cap 49 Nm (5 kgf·m)
CONSTRUCTION
See Figure 1.
INSTALLATION
Before installing the traps, blow out the
upstream piping thoroughly to remove loose
scale and dirt. Use pipe dope or tape sparingly
when attaching the trap to the pipes.
Observe the pressure limitation and the flow
direction marked on the body. The preferred
installation direction is vertical with discharge
downward to the return system or drain. The
flow direction should be down, or horizontal,
to the drain. Avoid excessive backpressure in
the discharge piping as this will reduce the
flow capacity of the trap.
It is good installation practice to include a
strainer ahead of each trap.

TEMPERATURE ADJUSTING PROCEURES
See Figure 2.
The valve is factory adjusted to the standard
preset temperature, 160°F (70°C). To change
temperature setting proceed as follows:
1. Remove the cap (3).
2. Loosen the lock nut (9) with a wrench.
3. With a screwdriver, gently turn the adjusting
screw (8) to the left (counter-clockwise) for
setting to a higher temperature.
Each revolution increases the temperature
setting by 18°F (10°C).
4. When a lower temperature is required,
gently turn the adjusting screw to the right
(clockwise). Each revolution decreases the
temperature by 18°F (10°C).
5. When the change of setting is completed,
tighten the lock nut with a wrench.
6. Replace the cap. This completes the
adjusting procedure.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Trap fails to pass condensate.
a. Check upstream and downstream to assure
they are open.
b. Check integral strainer for clogging. Check
upstream strainer for clogging. Blow-down
strainer if it is equipped with a valve.
Trap blows live steam.
a. Dirt on valve seating area. Block trap line
with the dowstream valve to accumulate
condensate. Open the line after several
minutes and allow the trap to be flushed
by condensate. Tapping the trap may also
dislodge particles.
b. Worn valve seat. Replace the trap.
Lower
the temp.
Raise
the temp.
