Intended use

Your BLACK+DECKER™ DCT10-B5 Coffee Maker has

been designed for making ﬁlter coffee as described in this

manual.

This appliance is not intended to be used in:

• Staff kitchen areas in shops, ofﬁces and other working

environments;

• Farm houses;

• By clients in hotels, motels and other residential type

environments;

• Bed and breakfast type environments;

• Or any other non-household environments.

Safety instructions

Warning! When using mains-powered appliances,

basic safety precautions, including the following,

should always be followed to reduce the risk of

ﬁre, electric shock and personal injury.

• The intended use is described in this manual. The use of

any accessory or attachment or the performance of any

operation with this appliance other than those

recommended in this instruction manual may present a

risk of personal injury.

• Retain this manual for future reference.

Using your appliance

• Always take care when using the appliance.

• Do not use the appliance outdoors.

• Do not operate the appliance if your hands are wet. Do

not operate the appliance if you are barefoot.

• Guide the power supply cord neatly so it does not hang

over the edge of a worktop and cannot be caught

accidentally or tripped over.

• Never pull the power supply cord to disconnect the plug

from the socket. Keep the power supply cord away from

heat, oil and sharp edges.

• If the power supply cord is damaged during use,

disconnect the appliance from the power supply

immediately. Do not touch the power supply cord before

disconnecting from the power supply.

• Disconnect the appliance from the power supply when

not in use and before cleaning.

Safety of others

• This appliance is not intended for use by persons

(including children) with reduced physical sensory or

mental capabilities, or lack of experience and

knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or

instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person

responsible for their safety.

• Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not

play with the appliance.

After use

• Switch off, remove the plug from the socket and let the

appliance cool down before leaving it unattended and

before changing, cleaning or inspecting any parts of the

appliance.

• When not in use, the appliance should be stored in a dry

place. Children should not have access to stored

appliances.

• The heating element surface is subject to residual heat

after use and hence, care should be taken.

Inspection and repairs

• Switch off the appliance before cleaning, changing

accessories or approaching parts which move in use

• Before use, check the appliance for damaged or

defective parts. Check for breakage of parts, damage to

switches and any other conditions that may affect its

operation.

• Do not use the appliance if any part is damaged or

defective.

• Have any damaged or defective parts repaired or

replaced by an authorised repair agent.

• Before use, check the power supply cord for signs of

damage, ageing and wear.

• Do not use the appliance if the power supply cord or

mains plug is damaged or defective.

• If the power supply cord or mains plug is damaged or

defective it must be repaired by an authorised repair

agent in order to avoid a hazard. Do not cut the power

supply cord and do not attempt to repair it yourself.

• Never attempt to remove or replace any parts other than

those speciﬁed in this manual.

Electrical safety

Before use, check that the mains voltage corresponds to the

voltage on the rating plate.

This product must be earthed. Always check that

the mains voltage corresponds to the voltage on

the rating plate.

• Appliance plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the

plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with

earthed (Class 1) appliances. Unmodiﬁed plugs and

matching outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.

• A 3 core cable must be used as your appliance is

Additional safety instructions for coffee

makers

Warning! The lid may become hot during use.

Warning! Steam may escape from the unit.

• Allow the appliance to cool before ﬁtting or removing any

parts and before cleaning.

• Do not immerse the appliance in liquid.

Use

Warning! Never use the appliance without water in the

reservoir.

Before ﬁrst use

• Unpack the coffee maker and remove all packaging,

promotional materials and stickers. Remove all printed

documents.

• Check that your maints supply is the same as the one

indicated on the appliance.

• Position the appliance on a ﬂat, stable work surface,

away from the edge and other electrical appliances.

Ensure that the coffee maker is not positioned under any

cupboards or near any furnishings, wallpaper or similar

that could be damaged by hot steam.

• Wash all removable parts of the appliance in warm,

soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.

Do not use harsh/abrasive cleaners or place any part of

the appliance in the dishwasher.

Warning! Never immerse the main body of the appliance,

cord set or plug in water or any other liquid.

• We recommend that you ﬁrst familiarise yourself with all

parts of the appliance before using it for the ﬁrst time. Do

not ﬁll with water or connect to the mains supply when

doing this.

• To remove any remaining residue from the manufacturing

process, we recommend operating the coffee maker as

described in the ‘ Use ’ section. This will ﬂush the

appliance out. Use water only, do not add coffee.

Note! Ensure that the coffee maker mains cord does not

overhang the edge of the worktop.

Note! When the coffee maker is plugged in and operated for

the ﬁrst time, there may be a small amount of smoke and/or

odour as the heating elements warm up. This represents no

danger or malfunction with the product and should clear after

a couple of uses.

Using your coffee maker

1. Open the lid and ﬁll the water tank with cold drinking

water

NOTE: Do not ﬁll over the max level on the water tank.

2. Ensure the ﬁlter and funnel are assembled properly and

place this assembly on funnel holder.

3. Add proper coffee powder into the ﬁlter. Usually a cup of

coffee needs a spoon of coffee powder, but you may

adjust according to personal taste, and then replace the

top cover.

4. Close the lid

5. Insert the travel mug in place onto drip plate.

6. Plug the unit into an outlet.

7. Press the power switch, the indicator in it will be

illuminated and the appliance will begin working. The

brewing process can be interrupted by pressing the

switch again at any time and the indicator in it will go off,

indicating your coffee maker is off. Once again press the

switch to continue the brewing.

8. Remove the travel mug from the coffee maker to take

your fresh cup of coffee. The attached sipping

attachment can be screwed onto the travel cup for easy

carrying convenience.

NOTE: the coffee you get will be less than the water you

have added as some water is absorbed by the coffee

powder.

9. Always turn the coffee maker off and unplug the

appliance when not in use.

Cleaning and maintenance

CAUTION: Be sure to unplug this appliance before cleaning

and let the appliance cool down completely. To protect

against electrical shock, do not immerse cord, plug or unit in

water or liquid.

1. Clean all detachable parts after each use in hot soapy

water.

2. Wipe external surface of product with a soft, damp cloth

to remove stains.

NOTE: Do not attempt to clean the inside of water tank, as

this will leave a residue of lint and may clog your coffee

maker, simply rinse with cold water periodically.

3. Water droplets may buildup in the area above the funnel

and drip onto the product base during brewing. To

control the dripping, wipe off the area with a clean, dry

cloth after each use of the product.

4. Replace all parts and keep for next use.

Note: DO NOT place the removable parts or coffee maker in

a dishwasher.

Removing mineral deposits (descaling)

To keep your coffee maker operating efﬁciently, periodically

you should clean away the mineral deposits left by the water

according to the water quality in your area and the use

frequency, we recommend removing mineral deposits as

follows:

1. Fill the tank with water and descaler to the max level as

indicated on water gauge (the scale of water and

descaler is 4:1, the detail refers to the instruction of

descaler. Please use “household descaler”), you may

also use the citric acid instead of the descaler (the one

hundred parts of water and three parts of citric acid).

2. Insert travel mug onto the drip plate.

3. Make sure without coffee powder and funnel are

assembled in place.

4. Switch on the appliance and allow it to “brew” de-scaling

solution.

5. After “brew” one-cup solution, switch off the appliance.

6. Leave the solution stay for 15 minutes and repeat step

3-5.

7. Switch on the appliance and run off the solution until the

water tank is completely empty.

8. Rinse by operating the appliance with water at least 3

times.

Tips for great-tasting coffee

1. A clean coffee maker is essential for making

great-tasting coffee. Regularly clean the coffee maker as

speciﬁed in the “CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE”

section. Always use fresh, cold water in the coffee

maker.

2. Store unused coffee powder in a cool, dry place. After

opening a package of coffee powder, reseal it tightly and

store it in a refrigerator to maintain its freshness.

3. For an optimum coffee taste, buy whole coffee beans

and ﬁnely grind them just before brewing.

4. Do not reuse coffee powder since this will greatly reduce

the coffee’ ﬂavor. Reheating coffee is not recommended

as coffee is at its peak ﬂavor immediately after brewing.

5. Clean the coffee maker when over-extraction causes

oiliness. Small oil droplets on the surface of brewed,

black coffee are due to the extraction of oil from the

coffee powder.

6. Oiliness may occur more frequently if heavily roasted

coffees are used.

Protecting the environment

Separate collection. This product must not be

disposed of with normal household waste.

Should you ﬁnd one day that your BLACK+DECKER product

needs replacement, or if it is of no further use to you, do not

dispose of it with other household waste. Make this product

available for separate collection.

• BLACK+DECKER provides a facility for recycling

BLACK+DECKER products once they have reached the

end of their working life. This service is provided free of

charge. To take advantage of this service please return

your product to any authorised repair agent who will

collect them on our behalf.

If a BLACK+DECKER product becomes defective due to

faulty materials, workmanship or lack of conformity, within 24

months from the date of purchase, BLACK+DECKER

warranty to replace defective parts, repair products subjected

to fair wear and tear or replace such products to ensure

Rallonges et appareils de classe 1

• Un câble à 3 conducteurs doit être utilisé, car votre

appareil dispose d’une prise à la terre et est un produit

de classe 1.

Remplacement de la ﬁche électrique

En cas d’installation d’une nouvelle ﬁche:

• Jetez l’ancienne ﬁche avec prudence.

• Connectez le ﬁl marron sur la borne sous tension de la

nouvelle ﬁche.

• Connectez le ﬁl bleu sur la borne neutre.

• Si l’appareil est de classe I (mis à la terre), connectez le

ﬁl vert/jaune sur la borne terre.

1. Nettoyez toutes les pièces amovibles après chaque

utilisation dans de l’eau savonneuse chaude.

2. Essuyez la surface extérieure de l’appareil avec un

chiffon doux et humide pour enlever les taches.

REMARQUE : N’essayez pas de nettoyer l’intérieur du

réservoir d’eau, car cela laissera un résidu de charpie qui

peut obstruer votre cafetière. Il sufﬁt de la rincer

périodiquement à l’eau froide.

Retrait de dépôts de minéraux (détartrage)

Pour vous assurer que votre cafetière fonctionne toujours de

façon optimale, vous devez nettoyer périodiquement les

dépôts de minéraux laissés par l’eau en fonction de la qualité

de l’eau dans votre région et votre fréquence d’utilisation de

l’appareil. Nous recommandons de nettoyer les dépôts de

minéraux comme suit :

1. Remplissez le réservoir avec de l’eau et du détartrant

jusqu’au niveau maximal indiqué sur l’indicateur de

niveau d’eau (le rapport d’eau et de détartrant est de 4:1

comme indiqué sur les instructions du détartrant. Veuillez

utiliser un « détartrant ménager »), vous pouvez

également utiliser de l’acide citrique au lieu de détartrant

(cent parts d’eau pour trois parts d’acide citrique).

2. Insérez le mug de voyage sur le plateau d’égouttage.

3. Assurez-vous que le ﬁltre (sans le café moulu) et que

l’entonnoir sont en place.

4. Allumez l’appareil et « préparez du café » avec la

solution détartrante.

5. Après la « préparation » d’une tasse de solution,

éteignez l’appareil.

6. Laissez la solution agir pendant 15 minutes et répétez les

étapes 3 à 5.

7. Allumez l’appareil et laissez s’écouler la solution jusqu’à

ce que le réservoir soit entièrement vide.

8. Rincez l’appareil en infusant au moins 3 réservoirs d’eau.

Conseils pour préparer un café très

aromatisé

1. Une cafetière propre est essentielle pour préparer un

café très aromatisé. Nettoyez régulièrement la cafetière

comme spéciﬁé dans la section « NETTOYAGE ET

ENTRETIEN ». Ne mettez que de l’eau douce froide

dans la cafetière.

• Pour enlever tout résidu de fabrication, nous vous

recommandons de faire fonctionner la cafetière comme

décrit dans la section ‘ Utilisation ‘. Ceci permettra de

nettoyer l’appareil. Utiliser seulement de l’eau et pas de

café.

Remarque ! S’assurer que le cordon de la cafetière ne

pende pas du plan de travail.

Remarque ! Lorsque la cafetière est branchée et fonctionne

pour la première fois, il peut y avoir une petite quantité de

fumée et/ou une odeur pendant que les éléments de chauffe

deviennent chauds. Cela ne représente aucun danger, ni un

Utilisation de votre cafetière

1. Ouvrez le couvercle et remplissez le réservoir avec de

l’eau potable froide.

REMARQUE : Ne remplissez pas au-delà du niveau

maximum sur le réservoir d’eau.

2. Assurez-vous que le ﬁltre et l’entonnoir sont

correctement assemblés et placez cet ensemble sur le

support de l’entonnoir.

3. Mettez la quantité adéquate de café moulu dans le ﬁltre.

Habituellement, une tasse de café nécessite une cuillère

de café moulu, mais vous pouvez ajuster en fonction de

vos goûts personnels.

4. Fermez le couvercle.

5. Insérez correctement le mug de voyage sur le plateau

d’égouttage.

6. Branchez l’appareil dans une prise.

7. Appuyez sur le bouton d’alimentation, le voyant s’allume et

l’appareil se met à fonctionner. La préparation du café peut

être interrompue en appuyant à tout moment sur le bouton

une fois de plus ; le voyant s’éteindra alors indiquant que

votre cafetière est éteinte. Appuyez à nouveau sur le

bouton pour continuer la préparation du café.

8. Retirez le mug de voyage de la cafetière pour prendre

votre tasse de café fraîche. Le couvercle à siroter peut

être vissé sur le mug de voyage pour faciliter le

transport.

REMARQUE : Vous obtiendrez moins de café que la

quantité d’eau ajoutée, vu qu’il restera de l’eau dans le café

moulu.

9. Éteignez toujours la cafetière et débranchez-la de la

prise lorsqu’elle n’est pas utilisée.

Nettoyage et entretien

ATTENTION : Assurez-vous de débrancher cet appareil

avant de le nettoyer et de le laisser refroidir complètement.

Pour éviter tout incendie ou électrocution, n’immergez pas le

cordon, les ﬁches ou l’appareil dans l’eau ou dans tout autre

liquide.

2. Stockez le café moulu dans un endroit sec et frais.

Après l’ouverture d’un paquet de café moulu,

refermez-le hermétiquement et rangez-le dans le

réfrigérateur pour qu’il conserve sa fraîcheur.

3. Pour obtenir un arôme optimal, achetez du café en

grains et broyez-le ﬁnement juste avant de le préparer.

4. Ne réutilisez pas le café moulu, car le café préparé aura

une saveur considérablement réduite. Il n’est pas

conseillé de réchauffer le café, car la saveur du café est

la meilleure juste après sa préparation.

5. Nettoyez la cafetière lorsque la surextraction laisse des

gouttelettes d’huile. Les gouttelettes d’huile à la surface

du café noir fraîchement préparé résultent de l’extraction

d’huile du café moulu.

6. Ces gouttelettes d’huile peuvent survenir plus

fréquemment si des grains fortement torréﬁés sont

utilisés.

Protection de l’environnement

Collecte séparée. Ce produit ne doit pas être jeté

avec les ordures ménagères.
