Physical Description/Drawing
Limit Switch Assembly
The limit switch assembly includes the limit switches, tensioning springs (13), guide rod (14), cotter pins
(10) and adjustment collars (11 and 12). These components work together to stop the motor when the
machine reaches the end of its travel. The auxiliary switches allow you to hook-up the equipment that
should run/not run when the curtains are closed, or all the way open. Refer to Figure 2A on Page 10.
Drive Assembly
The drive assembly includes the motor, bearings (21 and 23), coupling, screw and the load block (22). The
PowerTrak™ Vent Machine motor you have depends upon the speed of the machine you ordered. You
may have a 15 RPM or 30 RPM motor. Refer to Figure 2A on Page 10.
Wiring Assembly
The wiring harness includes all connectors and wiring to route the power through the limit switches, and
to the motor. See wiring diagram on Pages 17-19 for detailed wiring instructions.

Use of Equipment
The PowerTrak™ Vent Machine is used for the automatic or manual operation of vents by the use of a
cable/pulley system. Few of the optional installations are included in this manual. These are not the only
ways to cable the system, just a few typical examples.

Instructions
1. Unpack the PowerTrak™ Vent Machine and check the machine for any physical defects.
2. Unlock and open the door. Remove the door as mentioned below.
a. Turn the screw counterclockwise and open the door.
b. Gradually compress the hinge at the center by hand and then slide the hinge to the left.
NOTE: Hold the door in position before compressing or removing the hinge.
Figure 3A
Failure to hold the door properly can cause personal injury.
Securely hold the door before compressing/removing the hinge.
The door may fall causing personal injury if not properly held and removed.
3. Installation

3. Based on the requirement, select the mounting configuration from Figure 3D on Page 13, Figure 3E
or Figure 3F on Page 14 (pull two curtains, pull one curtain to the left, or pull one curtain to the right).
4. Install one 3/8" lag (3) bolt into the wall of the building at the desired location.
NOTE: Place this bolt at 2-3/4" from the desired height, so that the machine top lines up with that
height. Refer to Figure 3B.
Figure 3B
5. Hang the PowerTrak™ on the lag bolt through the slot near the top center of the machine. Refer to
Figure 3C on Page 13.
NOTE: This bolt is only for hanging the PowerTrak™ during installation. Do not attempt to operate
the machine until it is fully secured. To secure the PowerTrak™, use four 3/8" lag bolts (3)
(not supplied). Drill the bolts through the four holes in the back wall of the PowerTrak™.

6. Install the brackets, pulleys (24) and winches as required. Care should be taken when installing the
brackets, pulleys (24), etc. to make sure that cabling will not interfere with the normal operation of
doors, windows, etc.
IMPORTANT: It is important to use only needle bearing pulleys on any “live” pulley (one that turns
every time the curtain moves) as this will extend the life of the machine and cables.
7. Run the cable (31) through the pulleys (24) and brackets as per the desired configuration. One
example configuration is shown in Figure 3D.
Figure 3D
8. When hooking-up the cables (31), leave the load nut (7) near the closed position. (The PowerTrak™
should have been shipped in this position.) This guarantees that the manual winches will have
enough cable (31) to allow manual operation of the curtains.
9. Run the ends of cables (31) to the load block (22) inside the machine. On the load block (22), there
will be four holes on the top surface. Run the cables (31) down the holes toward the center of the
block (22), loop around and come up through the holes toward the outside of the block. Tighten the
set screws (4) on the face of the load block (22) to lock down the cables (31). Pull the cable (31)
through the machine as shown below in Figure 3E on Page 14. For a chain application, refer to the
detailed diagram instructions included in Figure 3F on Page 14.

NOTE: The cables should come out of the machine in-line with the cabinet. This is to make sure that
there is even wear on the load block (22). Changing the exit angle of the cable (31) changes
the force seen on that side of the load block (22).
Figure 3E Cable Application Figure 3F Chain Application
10. To mount the PowerTrak™ horizontally, run the cables straight through the top of the machine. It is
very important to loop the cable around a needle bearing pulley as shown below to make sure weight
is evenly distributed on the load block (22). This pulley (24) also acts as a spacer to keep the cables
(31) straight.

NOTE: Machine cable should be positioned so that the two cables exit at right angle to the top of
cabinet.
11. Hook-up electrical wiring as shown in the wiring diagrams on Pages 17-19.
NOTE: All wiring must comply with all National and Local Electric Codes.
12. With the controller in manual mode, close the machine fully. Then take up the slack on the cabling
with the manual winch.
NOTE: With the PowerTrak™, you have the ability to adjust the lower limit switch set point, however,
the factory setting should be sufficient for most applications.
13. Next, open the curtains with the manual controls. When the curtain reaches the bottom of the
opening, or whichever point you choose, stop the curtain motion and set the high adjustment collar
(near the top of the machine) on limit switch guide rod to this point. Use a 2.5 mm allen wrench for
loosening and tightening the set screw (4) on the collar.
14. Attach a small cable clamp to the cable (31) near the hand winch (26) as a reminder not to wind the
cables past this point.

4. Maintenance
Maintenance
The PowerTrak™ is designed to operate with a minimum of maintenance. However, the following steps
must be performed on a regular basis to ensure peak performance over the unit’s lifetime.
1. The most crucial maintenance item is lubrication. We recommend using Valvoline Val-Plex EP™
wheel bearing grease for this purpose. The full length of the screw, and the “V shaped” tracks on the
sides of the cabinet (where the load block runs) should be wiped from top to bottom with grease.
There is one grease fitting provided on the PowerTrak™. It is located on the thrust bearing just above
the spider coupling. This bearing should receive two pumps with a grease gun (or until grease
appears on both sides of the bearing) at least every 3 months.
2. To grease the screw, apply the grease directly to the threads. Then use the manual setting on the
controller to move the load nut from one end of the screw to the other while applying grease. This is
to make sure that the full range of the load nut is well lubricated.
IMPORTANT: Do not use WD-40™ or other similar products for lubrication or cleaning of this
machine.
3. Products of this nature will remove the grease from the unit, causing excessive wear on load bearing
surfaces and increasing the possibility of binding.
4. It is also important to keep the debris out of the enclosure. The door on the unit should be sufficient,
but it is still recommended that you do a visual inspection and clean out any wasp nests, etc. It is
acceptable to blow debris out of the unit with pressurized air, but never spray the internals with water
unless power is completely disconnected from the unit.
5. Inspect the cables periodically, especially at the onset of cold weather. Damaged cables can break,
and the risk is higher in colder temperature. Replace any badly frayed or excessively worn cables.
